Hi, for some reason my internet likes to randomly cut out. It'll run fine then go slowww, then it'll go out. Now, the thing is that I unplug my internet adapter, wait about 30 seconds and plug it back in, then it'll work fine as it should. Thanks to that I think my network adapter, WUSB54G v4, is the problem but is there anyway I can determine if that actually is it? Occasionally it seems to actually be the internet itself seeing how I have to reset my modem and router for it to come back but it could be "junk packets" sent out from my adapter that can cause everything to stop working, right? If there is someway to track it down to my adapter that would be great - I don't want to shell out money on a new one for no reason. Thanks for any help.

Are all your drivers and firmware up to date?

The firmware on my router has never been updated, I wanted to put DDWRT or Tomato on it but it's the v5 of WRT54G, and I and I never got around too it. I tried to update the driver on my adapter once but it was cutting out after that and I had to rollback, but that could of just been a coincidence, i'm not really sure. I'll try to update the driver again and hope it doesn't shit out again, and I guess a firmware update on my router wouldn't hurt either but it seems to be more of an adapter problem.

Woot...1000th post!

I probably shouldn't double post but....I upgraded my router firmware and driver on my adapter but the situation is more of the same. It will be fast for a while then go slow and cut out. What's weird is that I go to a chatroom, and while websites will not load up at all, the chat still goes strong and I can watch people broadcast their webcams. Is there anyway to check if my adapter is shit like I think? I think it is but again I need some kind of proof before I buy another one.

Directly connect to your modem for a while and see if the problem persists. If not, it's definitely the router. I know my wrt54g used to drop packets like mad till I upgraded the firmware, but if that didn't help you, you may need to toy with the router settings, or even call linksys and ask for some recommended steps to try.
