Nope, not at all!

It is an animal, I am an omnivore. I was built to eat these things, and while I could probably get on fine without doing so, I think they taste good and are an awesome source of protein that doesn't turn me into a girlyman by filling me full of estrogen like soy does.

Don't think for one second that a large chicken wouldn't eat us eat like a normal chicken eats a bug.
I don't rely on soy for protein, I don't even eat it that much anymore.

Don't wanna support torture of chickens? Buy free range chicken products or go straight to the source at small farms all over the country. No brainer right there.
I totally agree!

once again though the problem with this example is it breaks down instantly in people's head as pulling the legs off a fly is wanton cruelty (isnt that like SHAKESPEARE I just quoted? it sounds familiar. lear has a line about like flies to the gods are we something about wanton) where as with food they will say it's going to die anyways who cares.

i too am surprised COXSWAIN was one of the few people to bring this up but i'm not surprised the majority opinion in the thread and probably irl is "who cares anyways" because it's a pretty solid opinion.

it just ignores the fact you're justifying perpetuating torture by saying you're going to murder something anyways.

my point is that people pulling legs off flies is creepy as hell, the fly doesn't even matter, but it seems like you're going that way anyhow

Yeah, yeah, perspective, yeah I know. It was mainly an outcry against pork barrel in general (even though implementing this law probably doesn't cost too much...just litigation really). I'm just pissed that my friend's mom is pretty much out of a job now.

There isn't any malicious intent behind killing food. I would understand the case if our own health and safety was threatened, but it hasn't been so far. It's entirely an animal rights case. Frankly, you can't have me empathize too much with my food. Martin Luther King was a huge advocate for civil rights, etc., and i'm pretty sure he ate chicken. Just because you eat meat doesn't mean you're a heartless bastard who's perpetuating torture and death.

Anywho, I went ahead and got some info on prop 2.

Okay maybe I should eat meat a little more sparingly (I hardly eat it anyway, but whatever). Really. For all it's worth, someone's going to eat them anyway. It's contradictory to promote chicken rightsand yet know that they'll be eaten regardless. Someone's gotta chop their heads off. Or do you prefer the electric chair now? Maybe it's better that we use a 3-stage lethal injection (that would probably be a little bad for the consumer). If we want to take this to the ethics side of the debate, then what about the poor family who needs cheap chicken to eat? Are we really comparing the value of the livelihood of chickens vs. the livelihood of families in poverty? Y'know my mom never really made too much money, and we kinda survived offa this stuff for awhile. Chicken and rice. Better than macnsnot 5 times a week.

Your rebuttal's probably going to be about the cost of implementing larger cages for the chickens being negligible to the average consumer. However, if you want to totally promote chicken rights, your points will do best with a 500 acre chicken plot, so them chickens can roam free, so they can ruffle their feathers and scratch their chicken feet etc etc etc. Which would be very expensive to maintain. Or do you have a place to draw the line?

would you kick a dog in the ribs for $1? how about 100 dogs for $100? how about a chicken for $.02? how about 2,000,000 chickens for $40,000? it doesn't matter how the animal feels it's about you kicking it. the thing about torturing something, even if it's going to die, is that someone is torturing it and that's gross!

Yeah I don't care enough about animals to not eat them, but torture is unnecessary and better conditions for the animal means better and healthier meat.

nuts, seeds, vegetables, legumes, grains...etc everything has protein (just different amounts/amino acids)

Didn't he say a variety of nuts before? I can't imagine surviving on that sort of diet and missin' out on life like that
hi I eat pretty much everything 'normal' people eat just vegan versions (that taste the same and are healthier)

yeah but that's going extremely out of the way and making it unnecessarily hard. not to mention if i go to say russia or any ethnic country (or anywhere outside of a white middle class cradle) for a prolonged period of time it's almost impossible to enjoy yourself or to look any bit normal to the populace

I think the chicken I currently eat is fine, and the chickens after this law is implemented will taste no better. I haven't got sick or anything from chickens eating chickenshit, and if I did I'd probably sue the hell out of Vons for failing to cook them properly. There's a line between animal rights and pragmatism. I don't care if the chickens were shipped over from Africa, stripped down horizontally for as many as 3 months, then thrown out on deck so the sailors could splash icy saltwater on their wounds. They're chickens.

for the sake of the chickens man

i haven't heard anyone talk about a good vegan bacon. with veggie food you're really looking for the texture more than the taste.

although dok why'd you abandon soy? that seems like it really limits your eating options like...A LOT.

if i couldn't have tofu seitan etc as a vegan i'd go nuts! i mean i can't be vegetarian as it is because i am a big babby but i just noticed you said MOSTLY. still man soy is uh pretty integral to my personal concept of a vegan enjoying themself, don't you get...bored?

yeah some of those veggie substitutes are actually not that bad. but if you think it's like a burger at all you're fucking retarded (this is not you but i've known some people) and I've always kind of rolled my eyes at that idea even. silk can own more than milk sometimes though.

god i can't get over dok cutting down on soy though! every vegan dish i've ever been interested in was soy based.

then i just remembered he once went raw food and there is no more boring diet in the world short of not eating.

I still eat soy.  I will have tofu like once a week or something and the only time I have fake meat substitutes is if i go out to eat at a vegan place (which isn't often).  I've stopped consuming lots of soy after hearing some of the negatives associated with it (which aren't associated with fermented soy):
*hormone shite
*phytic acid which inhibits the intake of some vitamins/minerals
*goitergens which impair thyroid function
*like 90% of all soy being gmo

etc.

Also seitan is wheat gluten...no soy.

It's not hard.  Basically I eat a lot of nuts, seeds, salads...etc.  Like I made this huge vegan pizza with 10+ ingredients and it had no soy on it and it was good.  Even the vegan cheese was rice based, but most of the time I just make it with the sauce and no cheese.  Like I said I don't eat a lot of fake substitutes so like if I'm making a stir fry for example I'll just use lots of veggies.  Sometimes I'll add tofu, sometimes not.  I have a bunch of cookbooks/recipes that are vegan and don't contain soy.  Also raw food doesn't contain soy but you think that's gay so whatever.

it is just that when you say you eat nuts, seeds and salads i imagine you slowly wasting away because i have known people who are trying to go ana who eat more substantial meals than that. i eat a quarter pound of seeds every meal.. wilted spinach salad the size of a house

whenever i go a while without eating meat i just eat lots of fresh vegetables, fruits, stir fries, pasta, rice. i do not think i have met a tofu i have enjoyed but i assume the seitan i have had was low quality, it was a slightly gummy brick

man i wish you would be realistic about this shit because when you're like I MADE A GOOD PIZZA ITS NOT HARD and then you describe it it's clear you are at least being hilariously wishful and more obviously just saying it's easy and good when it sounds like neither.

and GOITERGENS IMPAIR THYROID FUNCTION? i mean...is there something wrong with your thyroid that you need to avoid something? do you NEED THOSE MINERALS dogg?

it is bad because sometimes i need a legit nutritionist to explain things to my mom and I can never and have never asked you because you are the exact reason she thinks some of the stupid shit she does and i have to reverse engineer it.

to clarify stuff like the above where other than the GMO thing you are kind of being ABSURD entirely is the reason my mom thought for a brief time i should never have another burger or fry ever made outside of the home from anything but wholewheat.

and stuff like real nutrition is the reason i know the really big greasy burger and fries i had should be at most eaten once a week and most likely i won't have something that completely unhealthy for a month.

wasting my fucking time I know but it sucks NOW when i'm actually openminded that your descent into clarity is either inexorably slow or is probably yet another feint like when you ate dandelion greens and half of gw made fun of you for the wrong reason (dandelion greens are great guys) instead of the fact you were foraging them like a wild beast for life energy and used this as an excuse why you didn't grow your own food.

like i dont even get how IMPAIRS SOME MINERALS IN BLOOD STREAM (do you even know which ones without having to google a probably bad medical source?) would be a negative considering the fact you are the one guy eating absolutely NOTHING BAD constantly so any effect this would have is like the effect of one person farting into a macy's day parade balloon.
