Yeah, yeah, perspective, yeah I know. It was mainly an outcry against pork barrel in general (even though implementing this law probably doesn't cost too much...just litigation really). I'm just pissed that my friend's mom is pretty much out of a job now.
There isn't any malicious intent behind killing food. I would understand the case if our own health and safety was threatened, but it hasn't been so far. It's entirely an animal rights case. Frankly, you can't have me empathize too much with my food. Martin Luther King was a huge advocate for civil rights, etc., and i'm pretty sure he ate chicken. Just because you eat meat doesn't mean you're a heartless bastard who's perpetuating torture and death.
Anywho, I went ahead and got some info on prop 2.
http://www.animallawcoalition.com/farm-animals/article/320Okay maybe I should eat meat a little more sparingly (I hardly eat it anyway, but whatever). Really. For all it's worth, someone's going to eat them anyway. It's contradictory to promote
chicken rightsand yet know that they'll be eaten regardless. Someone's gotta chop their heads off. Or do you prefer the electric chair now? Maybe it's better that we use a 3-stage lethal injection (that would probably be a little bad for the consumer). If we want to take this to the ethics side of the debate, then what about the poor family who needs cheap chicken to eat? Are we really comparing the value of the livelihood of chickens vs. the livelihood of families in poverty? Y'know my mom never really made too much money, and we kinda survived offa this stuff for awhile. Chicken and rice. Better than macnsnot 5 times a week.
Your rebuttal's probably going to be about the cost of implementing larger cages for the chickens being negligible to the average consumer. However, if you want to totally promote chicken rights, your points will do best with a 500 acre chicken plot, so them chickens can roam free, so they can ruffle their feathers and scratch their chicken feet etc etc etc. Which would be very expensive to maintain. Or do you have a place to draw the line?
