Agreed, it was pretty hilarious. Did the guy even have a name? It's like... Kirk, Spock, aaaaaaand guy in red suit.

yeah they said that somebody's signal was lost or something but I can't seem to recall the name, other than I believe that it began with the letter "m"

Just saw it yesterday (thoguh I feel like I'm decades behind the wave of people who saw it the first night). It was pretty kickass. I actually think it's one of the few movies I'd see in theatres more than once. :)

Olson would be the name of that unfortunate sap.

Man, imagine being cast for that role. "Yeah, you're going to have ten seconds of screen time and then you're going to die in a fire."

Can someone explain american tv for me quickly. All of the shit US shows I watch have finished simultaneously. Is it unlucky to play tv during the summer like it is to have a woman aboard a ship?

most major programs end over the summer, eg: the season ends and then the next season begins in the fall.  its just kind of a thing because apparently nobody watches shows over the summer, although there are quite a lot of shows on cable networks that start up over the summer (and a few on the major networks, but nothing notable)

"Four completely unnecessary minutes" haha

unrelated but there's a scene in LEFT BEHIND THE MOVIE where the camera is tripoded so it doesn't move or pan. kirk cameron walks onto the scene, looks out a balcony, waits a second, and then turns around and leaves and that's it. it was the funniest shit, just like twenty seconds of absolutely nothing. there's a bunch of them too where he just sighs and settles into a chair and it cuts to different characters doing things.

now THATS a real star's trek...

This movie was filled with plot holes. I couldn't point them out if you asked me to, but I could literally sense the plot falling apart as I watched it. It's like halfway thru production they were just like, "Screw continuity, we'll just make sure new and improved Kirk takes all the attention away from the lack of any sense in the main storyline and we're good to go!"

Why did Kirk randomly come across Old Spock on that ice planet?!?!? It was like they added him in at the last second and just spliced it into the film.

Also, when will hollywood stop using unadulterated black holes as time travel devices? You can't just pilot your spaceship into a black hole and expect to go anywhere other than CRUSHED IN A SINGULARITY. (I was actually surprised they used the word singularity at one point. Of course, that was the perfect time for McCoy to give his old "I'm a doctor, not a damned physicist!" speech. Even though a singularity is obviously the point of infinite gravity at a black hole's center that makes it what it is, every high school grad should know this today. . .are doctors really still gonna be stupid in the distant future?.)

I will definitely see it again just for the special effects, though. However, in a few years when they are obsolete I will easily forget about this rehashed sci-fi movie. It was pretty bad. Not that I didn't expect it to be.

my standards may be lowered because i've never watched a single star trek ep in my life and always thought it was really shitty etc like most people and i haven't really seen any BIG BLOCKBUSTERS recently or shit with CGI but i thought this was pretty awesome.

other than small nitpicks like lol nokia or why the hell DID he meet old spock on random ice planet V It Was A Very Enjoyable Film.

Yeah, they should use more naked singularities.

and stars wouldn't move in the background and lasers wouldn't make sounds, no one actually cares about this.

it is when a movie breaks its own rules that you should be annoyed (ie my previous example where the nerds in a tv show don't know actual nerd shit) not when OH NO

PHYSICS!!!

Yeah, this movie was pretty cool, I'm going to see it again this weekend. Didn't mean to sound like a dick. I guess the black hole thing is annoying to me because if they did more with it it could have made the storyline a little more interesting. Like, I didn't hate the movie just for that, it was more a personal thing. Not that I am a physics genius or anything, but I have seen much better interpretations of time travel in science fiction movies. Basically, it was dumbed down like every other major film and that bothers me.

I know I said this. . .meant to say the plotline was pretty bad. Good movie, average plot.
