So just finished playing Penumbra and I am craving another scary game. Can anyone recommend to me any? More preferably a psychological mind-fuck then a closet jumping zombie (Resi Evil) type game.

Already have play:

System Shock 1/2
Resi Evils
Silent Hills
Penumbra
Doom 3
Siren

Currently I am looking at Fatal Frame, Sanitarium, and a horror game I saw on youtube who's name eludes me, but has you ehhh sight jack into zombies you kill, seeing their last moments before death (including a cow beheaded for slaughter). Fatal Frame looks good after seeing this scene http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sb1nVP6RX7E&feature=related (Swearing in film)

Alone in the Dark

Fatal Frame does look pretty good from what I've seen of it, but otherwise, I don't really know. I think there's a few obscure horror games for the PS2, if you want to check that out.

Then again, I think there's a game called Obscure for PS2, and iirc it's an horror game. It was recommended to me a while back, but I never even looked into it.

Also, you may want to maybe think about looking into Haunting Grounds. From what I've played of it, it's an ok horror game, although not the most terrifying. But then again, you named Doom 3 and Resident Evil(they don't all seem too terrifying to me) as horror games, so..

And for last, I think I remember a game on PSX that was a mix of horror and RPG. Galerians, iirc. I think it has a sequel too. You could look into that, but I can't promise anything, I never played it.
As a kid I also though Parasite Eve was pretty terrifying.... but eh... not so much anymore.

The choice is up to you, chief.

EDIT: Holy crap, how could I miss this? Clock Tower for SNES and the REAL second Clock Tower for PSX. I can't recall what the real second game is called, but you have to be careful because there's some subpar Clock Tower game that came out for PSX aswell, but I think the lame one is just called Clock Tower because the SNES one never came out outside of Japan. There's also one for PS2, but I don't know if it's any good.

And don't brush the first Clock Tower off as a horror game because it's a SNES game. It's very, very good.

Played Undying.... forgot to list that

Hmm heard of Clocktower, but didn't see it as a good horror game (bad cover art?) will check it out. Didn't know there was a SNES game... and a horror one at that? Will have to see how it looks. Also Grunthor, I really want to try out Eternal Darkness, heard of things like it pretending to clear your memory card and beheading your character (while still alive/walking around). Sounds awesome!

Siren is hilarious, I beat level uh.. 2 or 3 or something early by running forward into the dark mist until the level ended.

I then promptly stopped playing.

Realms of the haunting man. It's like a point-and-click-survival horror hybrid with the length of an RPG epic. It's my all-time favorite horror game.

Not sure what console your looking to get the horror game for but I recently played the free downloadable demo of Fear 2 from the ps3 not too long ago and thought it was actually pretty good, very jumpy/dark and creepy.

I really recomend Clock Tower for the Snes, but do the cliche and play it in the dark with no distractions. It should be good and frightening.

i completely second condemned 2, it has some very surreal and crazy moments, BUT it does have your closet zombie appearing sometimes. The combat system alone is worth at least checking it out for, but there is a completely unique feel with this game which is pretty refreshing.

is condemned 2 better than 1? i kind of enjoyed the first level of 1, but once i passed the first 4 or 5 and i learned it was just THAT all the way through i gave up. the game never let up! it was constantly dark and opressive and depressing.

i mean, that's fine, but it'd be nice if you had SAFE AREAS or maybe just more talking with people that didnt want to kill you or something idk.

condemned 2 starts blowing really hard because the last half of the game is blowing away conspiracy soldiers with assault rifles.

That’s right, you have the young gaming with the old(er), white people gaming with black people, men and women, Asian countries gaming with the EU, North Americans gaming with South Americans. Much like world sporting events like the Wolrd Cup, or the Olympics will bring together different nations in friendly competition, (note the recent Asian Cup; Iraq vs. Saudi Arabia, no violence there) we come together. The differences being, we are not divided by our nationalities and we do it 24-7, and on a personal level.

We are a community without borders and without colours, the spirit and diversity of the gaming community is one that should be looked up to, a spirit and diversity other groups should strive toward.

There's one part in Half-Life 2 (episode one or two, I think?) where it's pitch black in subways/a parking garage or something and zombieheadcrabsoldiers keep running at you and all you have is the light of a flare on the ground and it's legitimately scary as HELL. Oh, and Ravenholm from normal Half-Life two.
They're really good games but they're not horror games so if you happen to have them lying around unplayed you might wanna get to those parts.
Seriously those were the scariest parts in any videogame I've ever played.
Although FEAR did look like it could be very scary.
don't mind me, just postin' after a few brewskies

Speaking of Half-Life there's a single player horror mod called They Hunger. It's pretty damn impressive considering the technical limitations of Half-Life 1. They're also working on an updated commercial standalone which is cool.

the only game i ever remember getting freaked out by was Seven Days a Stranger (by Yahtzee) but that may be because i was like 7 when i played it, and i only played late at night by myself. xP
hmm i'm trying to remember if it was one of the resident evil games but... well i just remember this scary game that my brothers used to play where you chose one of 3 crystals at the beginning of the game and it affected everything later. it had some crazy stuff in it, like the walls would bleed when you were freaked out and i remember there being magic spells of some sort...
semper games.

Dead Space is the only recent game which has really scared me, like REALLY. To the extent I'm like FUUUUUUUCK WANNA FIND A SAVE POINT AND QUIT PLAYING. :( It's got so much atmosphere.
