Man this is actually really addicting. The basic premise is that zombies are attacking your house, and you have to grow plants to fight them off. It's basically a tower defense, except the enemy moves down a horizontal lane instead of a winding path, and they come into direct contact with your towers (as opposed to more standard TD games where your towers are off to the side and invincible. It seems really simple at first but it's incredibly addicting because of all the strategy that becomes available. Your basic resource is "Sun", which you use to grow something like 40 different plants. Sun is gathered during daylight levels by clicking it as it randomly falls down the screen. There are also Sunflowers you can grow early on which produce it, and are required on the nighttime levels. You have other basic plants like the Peashooter which damages zombies, and the Wallnut which blocks them and forces them to attack it. Like I said before, there are like 40 different plants that you collect, but you can only carry 7-9 into a level.

That's another of the addicting aspects, gathering plants and trying out new strategies. The game is well balanced, and every plant is useful in different situations. There are a ton of different zombies types and different plants are effective against different ones.

I picked it up 3 or 4 days ago, and I haven't really touched anything else. I'm still not through the Adventure mode, and there's a ton of minigames and shit to unlock too. It's a pretty decent way to spend 10 bucks.

TALK ABOUT PLANTS VS ZOMBIES!

Oh, and get it on Steam, there's achievements if you care about those plus it's 10 bucks cheaper than off PopCap's own website.
WHY SO SERIOUS HAHAHAHHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAA

I was thinking of posting this too. Saw this game on Gamespot and well for a small sized game I thought I'd give it a try and yes it's really addicting.

EDIT:
I'd rather buy two of these than one Whipser of the Rose

THIS GAME IS AWESOMEO

Just finished the 'main' game this morning, but there's still quite a bit to do. Oh, and I've finished all the puzzles.

I've been playing this game for a few days now, and it's really great. I have to say, I've never been disappointed by a PopCap game. These guys always churn out really fun and addicting games.

Two rows of sunflowers, cherry bombs, repeaters, tall-nuts(You have those in 3-4 right?) and a fuck load of patience.
Don't forget to uh, put tall-nuts on lilypads too.
There's also a strategy with chompers you can use. Just put them behind tall-nuts and when the zombies start biting the tall-nuts the chompers will eat one.
It makes life a bit easier. Just a bit but a bit is good too.

It really isn't worth what it's sold for. It's a great game, extremely well-made, but $5 at the most since it resembles a common freeware flash game.

This game was pretty fun, but after beating the game it's pretty redundant.

You can beat just about any level by setting up garlic on the outer-most and middle rows, and lining the remaining two rows(from right to left) with spikes, a tall-nut, and then the ice flower guys. You can cram sunflowers in the rows with the garlic. But, you pretty much gotta start traditionally with the two back rows being sunflowers, and then placing tall-nuts,wall-nuts, and cheap offensive plants wherever the zombies end up.

It was a good game, but it did remind me why it's not usually worth it to buy games.

I discovered this as well... works flawlessly pretty much up until the roof levels. I think the guys who dig under give this strategy some hell too.

And then the Zombonis and Gargantuars show up and squish your Garlic without a second thought.  The endless survival mode really makes you appreciate just how much the different zombies are capable of.  Some of them are never really a threat, but others (see Jack-in-the-Box Zombie) can prove to be a true pain in the ass.  My Survival: Endless record is 63, but I saw a crazy guy on YouTube who made it past 200.

All righty.  Leave out Peashooter and Tangle Kelp, and bring Potato Mine and Squash instead.

Right off the bat, plant a Sunflower (duh).  Keep planting as many of them as you can.  When the first few zombies show up, plant Potato Mines and Squashes waaaaay in front of them.  They'll die on impact with either of those plants.  This should buy you enough time to get 10 Sunflowers up (4 in back on each side, two in pool).  Once you've got the Sunflowers, start planting Wall-nuts ad try to get a Repeater in every row.  You'll especially need Wall-Nuts in the pool.  Plant Snow Peas to back up the Repeaters, and make sure the Wall-Nuts are far up the lawn so the pole vaulters won't have time to get anywhere after they jump.  Plant a second row of Repeaters if you have time.

Good luck.
