I did notice his rather bizarre head earlier, but I thought it was just me even after walking around the map a little bit and noticing the transparency, but I just disregarded it. It's because the color of the helmet is the same as the background color, which renders it invisible - a mistake on my part even if CharasEx didn't warn me. I'll go ahead and change it -_-'

I'm enjoying the chillaxin' colors and room layout.
Finally added a pause menu. It took a while to add mouse control, as for some strange reason the mouse y coordinate is from 1 to 0 while the screen coordinate is from 0 to 1. Once I found that out, though, it was a breeze.

When I finish the single player, I may start working on multiplayer. I'll need some level designers for that, definitely, as my level design is extremely unbalanced. Especially harder so since some classes can breathe underwater - which skews some level balance - and a fair amount of weapons need to be nearby water to work properly - which allows non-water breathing players to get jumped when holding these weapons.
Also, if there are any females around, I could really use some voice acting for the player.

Please, please, please change the font of the pause menu, bleeding cowboys is almost never a good font to use. At least tell me it's placeholder. Other than that, cool man.
I'm available for level design/3d modelling if you need it by the way. I'm going to need a creative outlet once I hand in my final project tomorrow.

Ah, it's Inked God, not Bleeding Cowboys, but yes it's placeholder. What font would you recommend, though? The theme has been getting more and more steampunk, so I'm not sure about the font.

With two exceptions, they are all standing. The piano player is filler right now (he's actually just a regular townie doing his "I surrender, don't shoot" animation) because I'm beating my head against a wall trying to get the actual pianist's animations to sync up with the midi I'm using...

if it's rpg maker you can set the MIDI ticks to a variable and work with that in terms of synching. you'd need to find out the PPQ and the tempo of the MIDI first though

That's what I was doing, but I have subsequently reverted to using a canned animation sequence. When I started working on the second page of piano player variations, I realized I was putting entirely too much work into a character that, depending on how the game is played, might only be onscreen for a maximum of three minutes.

if you see the video you'll know is an action battle system video computer video game for your home entertainment/ computer system. simple now, I just have a black box that appears infront of you if you attack that detects if it's overlapping with the enemy. if it is, then the enemy takes damage. though, if your overlapping with the enemy you take damage. i'm using ags.
heres a couple cool things about ags! It has built in pixel movement with diaganols, built in path finding, hot spots make stuff cool, scripting is kind of okay, etc... it just doesn't have that sweet map editor rm2k3 has. oh well, can't have everything!

I know, but find the same chipset on the inside of the boat is quite a difficult task. And this is just like the world map and maps. A ship in port on a ship, you must get a hero.

it also reminds me of that one flash game where you get these messages which tell you what to do or what not to do like do not jump or fall down to that pit etc. and it's up to you whether you follow them or not. i don't remember the name of the game though.

That's better, but the next thing you should alter is the horizontal bridge, as it looks entirely flat as if we're viewing it birds eye. You need to show a little bit of the side of the bridge for it to look a little better.

but yeah Limbo but the FEEL reminds me of like ghostly memories of playing Castlevania clones. I expect the guy to leave the house with a CHK CHK CHK sound or whatever (NES white noise fart sounds)

really love the colors, but the tiling looks really awkward at the bottom of the screen, the top of the ceiling (not sure how to explain that). Looks really, really bad actually. Fix that up, and that would be a really nice looking screenshot.

I noticed this too. Mainly the one at the center of the bottom with the curly wall parts. The other ones are fine. It's certainly not terribly, but just something that needs to be polished up a little bit.

Working again on my ship shooter, Electric Bloom (http://www.saltw.net/index.php?topic=79345). Making the game more of a strategically tanking damage shooter instead of a dodge everything shooter. At a lot of points, there are about 20 or so enemies onscreen, and killing them all at once would kill you. Super simple at the moment: got a big thing, use the assault to kill it fast; got a lot of things, use the scatter to slow down the kills.
Edit: Oh, and the Wiimote support is much better now imo
Edit 2: Damn I can't get on the IRC because I'm home for the holidays and my dad blocked IRC's on account of my little brother. What is the world coming to, 10 years olds on IRC's

It looks nice but the backgrounds kind of clash with the character sets to me.

To me, it's not so much clash, but more of perspectives slightly off. If a different perspectives for the backgrounds were used then oh yeah, just played Odin Sphere for the first time yesterday.
And it's not a bullet hell, although it seems like it at some points, and I've actually been optimizing the game so I can deliver nearly hundreds of beams, missiles, and enemies before there's a noticeable FPS drop. Well, not that many, but enough to cover the screen.

unlike all the other naysayers i think it's both crazy and great that you are making this game. i think it helps that the graphics just look right from an rpg maker point of view. it's not horrible mismatched rips and yet it looks like THE RPG MAKER VERSION rather than a straight remake

The train's perspective is in platform view whereas everything else is not. You should be able to see the roof of the train a bit.

In anycase I won't be redrawing the train as (a) thats ridiculous, (b) the perspective is correct as the roof of the train is curved and you can see a bit more than half of it.

You can see a bit of it, but not enough. You should be able to see much more of it from that angle.
In any case, it's your game; you don't HAVE to fix it. It was just a suggestion.

All battles are 1v1, yes. It's an MMORPG created in PHP/javascript (so playable from just about any web browser with no need to download anything). But because it's web based the layout has to be simple, with large clickable areas etc.
Visual equipment is working just not implemented yet. So the head, body, armour, weapon etc all change when you change them in the inventory.
The game's released, just not this part of the battle system yet (it's currently just attack attack attack with animation).

I might make the contrast of the outlines in the kitchen darker then play around with AGS's lighting options because just changing Anteater's sprite in that one room would be kind of a pain. I do like the idea of his kitchen being this dimly lit room of disgust though.

Until someone needs to recover their password. I strongly recommend that you require an e-mail.

You have the ability to set one later on. A lot of people requested that I remove the email option and to be honest I agree with them; the amount of people that use throwaway emails these days makes it pretty redundant a requirement. It also lets people get straight into the game without worrying about such things.
As much as I hate to compare myself to RuneScape, they lasted 10 years without emails as a requirement and it made the whole signing up process so simple.

You said this was going on the iPhone and Android, right? Maybe it looks different on the actual device but aren't the controls and everything else going to be way too small? It'd probably be fine on iPad but the joystick and everything else seem like they're taking up a very small portion of the screen.

You know, I think you're right. I just threw a screenshot on my phone as a kind of "live mockup"... The battle controls and everything seem alright, but the joystick and the confirm/cancel buttons need to be a little bigger.

I was fairly interested in your game before this (I lurk, a lot), but now I'm quite turned off by what you did with that video.

I didn't mean it like that. It just seemed funny that he posted a screenshot that obviously didn't match up what the actual video was. Just to give people a taste of whats to come, this is basically the quality of what you can expect from FF72DR. This background isn't quite finished yet as it still has placeholder textures on the ground, I still need to do the proper lighting on the path and the dirt around the various objects, but its getting there. swordofkings128 - That looks pretty good. The only problem I have is the bottoms / sides of the rock / dirt images. They are too square. Maybe you can round out the edges; I think that would look much better.

Also Construct is VERY MYSTERIOUS. I've been using it for over a year but I still don't understand how to do a lot of basic things because there is no real documentation. You might want to try Deadeye's Platform School Tutorial (http://www.scirra.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=2154&start=250#p54647) if you haven't already (the specific post i linked is to an unofficial version updated to work in newer versions). It's unfinished, but still covers a lot of important platformer mechanics and is probably the most comprehensive tutorial available. You could also try asking in the Construct sub-forum; I dunno if there are any SECRET CONSTRUCT PROS on salt world at all, but who knows.

Just me messing around with the now fully implemented growing/depleting health bar. :) You may notice that towards the end that the cursor starts on an empty slot, that'll be fixed soon when I implement the code for it recursively cascading back to the characters as it does in the real one.

yeah i havent had chance to animate any characters yet barring an NPC who has two frames of animation (scratch butt up - scratch butt down) so thats the default for now. glad you like them though!

Even knowing that wip means "what is pizza" implies you already know what pizza is, meaning you never even had to use that phrase in the first place! It's a question you never have to ask again after getting the answer, making the whole idea of needing to shorten how you ask that particular question an entirely moot point.
wip is obviously supposed to mean when is pizza. That's a question everyone asks often enough that you pretty much have to shorten it to three letters. Or else the pizza is already going to be there before you even finish asking the question.

Does it befit a commercial game? Maybe, I have no experience of commercial browser games outside of like playing for free then getting annoyed when you have to pay for features. That's not to say that I won't pay though, if something is interesting enough.

I've been making platformer tilesets for the past couple of weeks and compiled them all into a bunch of mockups to see how they'd look when I import them into my game. The houses aren't done; it's taking me a while to FIGURE OUT HOUSES because I can't find a lot of 2D games with houses in a head-on perspective to use as reference.

Wrong. The u is only one tile short of being upper case. That's ambiguously lowercase at best.

That thing Pixothello does where you can see how the edges of your tiles match up as you draw them is pretty boss, but I just can't get used to using anything that isn't MSPaint (yeah, i'm one of those people)

same idea, different screens. before you would have to find bread and peanut butter, wear those as shoes and walk across the jelly without getting stickified. now you have to find a bag of frozen french fries, cook them, and toss them on the ketchup to get across without falling down the edge.

with the new style I was trying to make sprites smaller so they wouldn't be such a pain to animate... There 3 important characters here: Typo, Piknik Wing and Jolly M. Goodshow. Typo and Piknik haven't changed all that much except I added front standing sprite so you can see his eletrical plug like tail better. besides looking a bit more better, but Jolly has changed a lot. He used to be tall, but I wanted to make him more like Nigel Thornberry so now he's small.
Jolly Goodshow is one of the best archeologists ever, and he's in his summer condo at Dimuru chilling at the beach... However, he'll be an important character as he knows the most about the ancient ruins on the land. The reason he vacations in Dimuru is because the city is a ruined city of the previous civilization... This is how it used to look for a long time:

Clay enemies I've made so far. I used the flash on my camera on the bottom ones, that's why they look better. Unfortunately I took apart the earlier ones so I can't redo them :/ I can change the contrast to make them brighter though.

Personal preferences I guess. All of us within the team has grown up playing a lot of korean MMO's (mainly Ragnarok Online) and love the grinding aspect. And by grinding I don't mean it in the sense that you are forced to stick around in a area cause you are under leveled or whatever. But if you do, you might end up finding some sweet gear or other cool stuff.
Finding super rare items and shit like that is one of my favorite parts of gaming. Like finding that frickin Golem soul in Dawn of Sorrow after spending days killing golems. I think it's a super rewarding feeling. I know it's not everybody's cup of tea, in this day and age it's probably not many people that are into it. But hopefully we can seduce some old school gamers to give our shit a try at least.

For some people, the battles are the best part of playing RPGs. I have over 80 hours on Phantom Brave right now and I am only a little more than half way through it. And the reason I have so many hours is because I do ALOT of extra battling in order to further customize my characters and weapons. The story is kewl too and I COULD rush through the battles just to see it, but I am having more fun just battling.

It will be a mix of underwater shoot em up and rpg elements with a gradius-style weapon system.
New weapon systems can be gained by doing quests or can be bought from NPCs in exchange for collected crystals.

That's pretty rad, Killer Wolf. I'm curious to know what you used to make the "3D" images. Did you use like paint or photoshop or did you actually use a 3D modeling program.
Either way that's really cool and I'm wondering what kind of battle system you're going to use for that.

Even though it did cross my mind at first, I decided that firing up Blender or Lite-C's MED to make resources for an RM game was a little bit of overkill. Instead, just I used Photoshop's perspective and scaling functions for the first couple of test walls, and ended up doing the rest of them with one of the brush transformation tools in Deluxe Paint 2 Enhanced.
The project I'm using it in right now is a dungeon crawler that uses the DBS, albeit with 80-90 event pages of customization.
I'm also planning on using it for a straight up adventure game later on that wouldn't have any battles, but I need to refine it so it will display certain types of areas better first.

Really? I've seen a lot of Game Maker entries and some Unity here or there. Lots of flash games as well. I don't think there are any restrictions on what programming language or game making software you use to make the game.

I would play Logan's Adventure. so yeah still chippin away at my adventure game, past couple days been focusing on an optional bath sequence I've been struggling to come up with gameplay ideas for. was going to have a minigame where you play as a rubber duck version of a rabite shootin lazers at stuff, but that's a bit hard to program in AGS so there's a surreal dream sequence instead with full blown dino nudity and shit so don't let the kiddies play it when it's done!! : P
ps probably going to make the nips look less like cookie dough chunks, and touch up a couple other things.

thanks ed, I almost forgot how bad I was back then! :D , this game is a completely different game. I've been working on it for about 6 or so months, and the game is mostly playable from start to finish, but missing a lot of graphics, sound effects, that kind of stuff.
the other game I was working on(Ultamate Caraty: The Unspoken) is a game I'll make one day, I just don't have the ability to pull it off the way I want to. unfortunetly I haven't completed a game on my own since Ghosts of Aliens back in like 2008... but this one is my next full-fledged project, 100% solo(unless I can work up the nerve to ask chef boyardee to make a song for me XD)

I'm making it with löve (http://love2d.org), which is pretty rad. I'm more or less following the gameboy's limitations re: sprite size and screen size and colors etc. I'm still learning how to use löve (just started playing around with it yesterday) but it's pretty great.

you got it bro. when I start beta'ing i'll send you a copy, completely free of charge as the game will be completely free of charge! unlike ghosts of aliens this time i'll be doing a beta test with a select few people. i'd send you an alpha but it's still pretty shabby most of the npcs aren't interactable yet(there's like 12+ npcs in the very very beginning of the game i plan on making interactable, maybe optional side quests or something but this is completely optional as you only have to talk to two of them to advance the game past the first day. the rest are just there. you might be thinking "but swordofkings128 isn't that a waist?" hell no, games should have tons of pointless interactivity. that's what our lives are all about, isn't it?)

yeah, i'm kind of amazed how well you've got the proportions down, it's even better than what you see in any older snes games. like ANATOMICALLY CORRECT whoa looks natural. you can only correct it a little from there. chrono trigger sprites & animations looks amazed at ghost. also def reminds me of secret of mana somehow

So what have I been up to:
* Implemented a running system into DT which looks very nice if I say so myself.
* Finished up some sprites but am looking for help making battle characters as I suck at animating and creating the necessary sprites for animating.
* Reworked the story so it comes across better.
* Added a new video of the area Waters Edge(That's not the whole area, just some of it)
* Two new screenshots and a revised older one which you can all gawk at.
* Haven't started yet but will be redoing like the first hour or so of the game to match up with newly written story.
* What started out as a simple experience is slowly becoming more so, which I like and regret at the same time.
If I'm being perfectly honest here.. I don't work on the game as much as I used to. Ever since I got my diploma I've been trying to either focus on work or getting ready for next years course which is much harder and a lot more serious. Have no fear I will be updating, well at least trying to more often.

I think earlier versions of the game's screens looked better. The viewer's eye bounces around this one like it's trapped in a pinball machine caught up in a twister, just trying to find something to latch onto. When the image finally stays put long enough to parse, all of the soft edges and blurred components clash with the hard edges of the character.
I do like the icons for the user interface though!

hey thanks killer worlf, I appreciate that bit of info. however, what you described is exactly what I'm going for with the overall aesthetic of the backgrounds in this particular game. I want the player to be as overwhelmed by shit as Dingis is by his own world. while no danger or threat of death is present in the game(related to gameplay, for the story that's a different matter), Dingis' is a nerdy pussy with a lot of anxeity caused by how he perceives his reality. that screen should be especially visually confusing considering the placement of it in the story of the game. the whole purpose of this screen is just for scenery, to hammer home the feeling of a suburban neighborhood. I will post a finished version of the screen, to see if you think it's any better or not. And I'm happy you like the UI stuff, thanks! :D
and bonzai thank you for such nice words man, I think you've earned a spot in the credits under special thanks(also if you want to contribute an idea for an npc I am open too, drop me a pm, still have lots of npc spots to fill in the game :P )
also big T, I have to say I quite like that video. the idea of having writing written on the screen on the top and bottom is actually a really clever idea. by starting the sentence on the top, it makes the player wander across the screen out of curiosity to the right. then, in order to make sense of the sentence, they wander back to the left. its like you're forcing players unknowingly to walk to the right, and to the left again! this could be a powerful thing for a survival horror type game. the player is going in the direction you want them to, at there own free will because they have to read the writting. holy shit you could put like a crazy pop scare or something when they cross a certain point on the left, or make a character appear on the left side of the map that wasn't there before... I just might have to steal this idea for something later ;)

The girl on the far left is the protagonist, Talyssa. One of the themes in this game is that the world is changing in an abstract manner. Humans turning into monsters, animals becoming "weird". The screen above, the deer is mortally wounded and as it's drinking the water... The blood (more like ooze) sprouts life in the stream, the flowers.
Most of the characters in the game have their own lives / motives. However, the main plot is the investigation of these strange events. There is a parallel story that is that unfolds that help provide an explanation as well.
Talyssa travels with a little girl seen in the last screen I posted. People with the same motivations as you join your party, some of the party members that join you are more integral while others only join temporarily.

I thought it looked pretty unique as the lineart is traditional while the rest is mostly digital. The faces aren't really anime in my opinion, but if you don't really like the look then no worries, it's not really incorporated in the game all that much.
Another artist did the character art Belross, this is slated to be a PC game at the moment with the future goal of porting to mobile. There are a few features I want to flesh out and I don't really want to make a mobile game atm.

Don't get me wrong, I think it looks good. What Ragnar was oh-so-gently suggesting was that it has a very jRPG feel to it. The character designs in particular, especially the faces, are pretty heavily influenced by anime/manga. That's not necessarily a bad thing - the screenshots are very reminiscent of Secret of Mana, which is always a favorable comparison.
I look forward to playing a demo if you ever put it out - what's the combat like? Is it action RPG or turn-based?

To me the characters look more like square soft/enix kind of stuff(well, anything that doesn't involve tetsuya namura that is). like the chick with the sword looks like an ff12, which I think is great. I love the designs on both of them. But I really like that sword girl. The outfit makes sense, and isn't revealing at all, just form fitting. it shows strength and beauty in unison. fantastic!

Both screens look really good, YDS, but the top one seems just a little off. In the bottom one, the palettes for all of the components are really close together. Everything fits together. In the top one, both the character and the trees look really superimposed.

I think the first screen looks a lot more... isometric or something? goes into town and SUDDENLY EVERYTHING IS AT RIGHT ANGLES. But yeah reminds me of all those Enix games like Illusion of Gaia that weren't actually made by Enix but was the sum of their output in the US during the SNES days
and I kind of disagree with killer wolf because I like the amount of contrast in the first screen better

and also that video. first gam play that shows almost nothing. just so you guys now i have waaaaayyy more done than the walk cycles ;) in fact, i have one animation, 99% finished, 40+ frames long. used only once in the entire game. that animation? undressing and putting on a gym uniform. Are Low-Poly N64/PSX style graphics coming back? I really hope so. I think it might be because of the whole indie games scene embraced 8 and 16 bit graphics for the past 10 or so years, but Low-Poly 3D gives me way more nostalgia than 2D does.
Also, that looks rad Vellfire. I like the green guy on the right. He reminds me of The Phantom Tollbooth or something.

Working on a procedurally generated life simulator. Right now it's just a vanilla random world generating engine.

It's a variant on the perlin noise algorithm. I don't actually know if this particular algorithm exists, because I designed it on the fly, but it's possible it has a name and I just don't know it.
A random number generator picks unoccupied tiles and generates some number of mountain peaks, then pops each peak up an elevation and generates a random bounded number of tiles hugging the peak at a decremented elevation. All of the tiles are then popped upward and new peaks and "hugging" tiles are populated until the whole map reaches a predefined total land mass. Any blank tiles are then turned into ocean tiles.
I decided I'm going to do a massive redesign though, because I don't like how the mountains are all strictly cone shaped and the overlaps are a little messy. Also, there are random swaths of tiny oceans dotting the interiors of some of the terrain, and this is a problem because each water tile is going to track salinity to have a dichotomy between fresh and salt water. Having tiny salt seas would make programming river and lake generation, as well as general evaporation, a nightmare.
So I'm probably going to use a similar method, except place checks for nearby peaks and try to smoothly merge the two mountains. This will give the greater topography a more realistic look too. I think I'll just do this until every tile contains a land, then generate oceans to fill the lowest elevations. It'll be an approach which better conforms to the look of nature, but it's going to be a giant pain in the ass.

thank you!! it's not going good. i have baby-like levels of comprehension when it comes to things like rigging a model in blender and getting unity to do things. i have several unity projects sitting around my hd that are nothing but huge industrial zones, spiked space stations, towers above roiling garbage water, etc. hostile empty environments in lifeless void. lots of textures stolen from Doom.
i want to make fun explosion game but all i am making is powerfully hateful level.

I used the prefabricated water that comes with Unity, then changed the textures to some picture I had. so I think it's shader trickery? it looks pretty cool in motion, like it's full of oil and industrial byproducts just shimmering and swirling.

the menu looks ace. the white/yellow tile on the floor tiles /really/ badly, though. make sure the pattern is even over all the sides too. that stray dot on the wall tile is detrimenting it a bit too. otherwise, it's looking real cool!

You!" then it would repeat that a couple times, then if you stay on screen long enough it'll say some cryptic shit. plus the screens of the slot machines would flicker very subtlely.

Are you texturing the cubes with code or did you make a bunch of textures to go on the same UVs?
The map layout sorta reminds me of an RPG Maker game that got a load of hype. I can't remember the name for the life of me but it had lots of lighting effects and a link-esque protagonist but dark and noiry.
So cool though. Would love to see it in motion.

hi ed, they're not full cubes, they only have at most four faces, top, front and two sides... i'm generating each face via a separate function which generates uvs for a tile atlas (1024x1024 sheet) and adding them to a vbo, then the whole mesh is drawn in one call... nothing too fancy, really!

Both players are constantly shooting in the direction they move, your goal is to get shot by the other player, while not shooting them. Once shot you gain a point and respawn in a random location.

well I've started working on something different a couple weeks ago, it's a Myst-like-Yume-Nikki-like-Easter-Minds-like... the game is a pre-rendered, mid 90s style explore-em-up. im able to make 3d content in the early-cg style surprisingly fast.
argh I know I haven't finished anything in awhile but im going to keep development time short on this- 5 months.
im planning on having 5 big worlds(30+ screens) and lots of smaller worlds and this is one of them, and the modeling is done in about 3 days(just need to render the 130+ stills and program the rooms!) so I think if I can do this in about 4 days then the other areas are pretty doable in a 5 month period.
this will be my first commercial project too. im sick of working regular jobs, and if I could make enough money to work to take a leave for like 6 months to work on games full time...

In a completely horrible post-2014 Twitch.tv shitland kind of way, I would love to watch these things being made in real time. I'm not entirely sure how I feel about people streaming their development process since it removes a lot of the mystery that makes games special but I would definitely love to see the methods you're using to make a myst-em-up.
p.s. Also hello I am writing a thesis/I am dead. Will resurrect and make games soon.

thanks! :D i'll give a much more in-depth explanation later on(maaaybe a video??), but basically the key is just making everything low-poly and using procedural textures(oh yeah and of course, perfect ray-traced reflections!). all images in the game have to have their colors indexed, which is done in photoshop. usually indexed to 64 colors. i wrote a lot of custom functions in AGS to make things like turning around(4 directions), changing rooms, and even simulated load times easy to do.

ah yes! I haven't played Necrobius, but it is one of these exploring type games that I've drawn inspiration from. but I don't think my game will be quite as out-there. EM and Necrobius have a lot of text. you see, there will be no text from characters(or any real "characters" in the traditional sense), no straight-forward explanation on the story... story telling im going to try to keep 100% visuals(except for the in-game operating system on a computer) but what im really going for is immersion... like as if -you- were entering another world, exploring around, how it might feel to be swimming around in a fish bowl with a gold fish... or exploring the inside of a bag of potato chips.
anyway, here's some more stuff. ive learned how to make an armature and parent it to a mesh, so now my models can be rigged! :D here's a giraffe:

Holy moly! I am going to have to get more information on this! Do you intend on making Line's End yourself? I would be amazed if Lys actually re-appears after all this time. Didn't he make ABL during a summer off in law school or something? (vague hazy memories here).

I have intentions on trying to complete the entire game, and my forge my own interpretation of a Lines End. I will stop making the game at Lysanders request or if he wants to fill me in on the ending that would be great.
I doubt he'll resurface at this point, lines end was due out in winter 2003 so its 12 years late.
Anyone here who has intimate knowledge of A Blurred Line please contact me, I'd like to discuss theories and possibilities for the third part.

You should "blur the lines" of any official story explanation for what happens by having Line's End rely very heavily on branching paths and "choose your own adventure"-type segments like Lashe City in Part 1. I have no idea why Talan would end up destorying the Catch Colony in the game's intro, so might as well come up with several possibilities and let the player decide.

My pet theory is that the Advocate AI program/virus thing spreads to the Catch Colony, threatens all life on the planet, Talan destroys it, and the rest of humanity abandons technology in favor of a pastoral/commune lifestyle similar to that seen in Paradise in part 2.

I have returned to gamemaking. Well, I returned last year to the creation of these video games, but like, got bored and gave up. But hey! I made a soundtrack album and stuff, so wasn't all a waste of time.
I'm back in the saddle for a while, maybe getting some kind of BASIC SYSTEM down this time. Who knows??
Idea wise, it's based on elements of Chinese mythology and classic tales mixed into a new fantasy world.
As is par the course these days, the graphics will be custom. I'm going for the pre-rendered style, and using Makehuman for the basic human shape. This screen is just a simple example of the style I'm now going for. Ignore the lazy 2 minute map, just needed some decoration.

Also btw, combat will be ABS (I still remember these terms!!!) via Khas' Saphire Battle system. Essentially because I can't code for toffee, and some parts of the story may (SPOLER ALERT) feature epic battles.
There will however be WIP screens of the gameplay with lazily unfinished forests however...

Yeah, his name is Liu Wei, obviously based on Liu Bei. The three main characters are based on the three brothers who founded the kingdom of Shu Han. for example this dude:

He's called Kan-Un. Based on the name Kanu Unchou, which is the Japanese name for Guan Yu. I'm a Three Kingdoms nerd(to the point of getting the symbol for Eastern Wu tattooed onto my wrist :/ )

Hello everyone! So i haven't been on this forum since it turned into Saltworld, but after seeing RM2K3 being released on Steam i had the urge
again to produce a new game, after getting a bit better in pixelart to make everything custom! I still had some screenshots laying around from
a game i was working on about a year ago that i had never showed. Its a survival horror game with Parasite Eve/Resident Evil in mind.

The flashlight mechanics seem really good, maybe you should add potential of turning it on and off and finding batteries to it, that could add more tension and having to choose when to use it.

I just learned how to animate 3D stuff. It seems like a waste to learn all this stuff just to make a browser game that will probably never be finished instead of an actual 3D game.

I just learned how to animate 3D stuff. It seems like a waste to learn all this stuff just to make a browser game that will probably never be finished instead of an actual 3D game.

It's a virtual pet game I'm workin on. And I was heavily inspired by Pet In Tv (With My Dear Dog) to have a full fake BBS in it. As in like...not an actual BBS, but one full of NPCs that you can interact with via BBS posts/emails. It's got a story and everything and player interaction affects the development of it in Interesting Ways(tm). If I ever get it in a playable state and don't just give up on it entirely I will post it here but in the meantime you can just look at a buncha assets for it I guess. I was originally gonna try to make somethin in unity but I decided instead I would make it a browser game w/the 3D models used as art on the site, with gifs like the one I posted. So like, if you check on your pet and it's sleeping, you'd get a gif of it sleeping. It's a little more lively than just plain images and more tamagotchi-esque. Idk stay tuned, possibly forever knowing my track record.

Testing out the improved Hell Casket mini game

The demons now have to notice you before they start chasing you, instead of them automatically wandering towards your direction with the approach move route. This makes evading them somewhat easier, which is a good thing since the whole minigame is harder as a whole.
