this is before i realised about the problem japan has with liking absolutely godawful bullshit.

HAHAHAHAH! Amen to that. I couldn't find a better way to word it! That is exactly the reason that I just can’t stand almost all anime that has been made within the last decade.

Well now you got me thinking that I might end up hating this game... I guess all that matters is that i like it now. I never heard anything about this one... I usually don't pay attention to JRPG hype because I usually don’t like it. I squander my money on a lot of crappy games. You bring up some good points which make me wonder why I like it. I even wonder at times what it is about FF7 that I liked. FF7 was the first game I ever bought for myself and at the time I didn’t even know what it was. I just ended up loving it.

Reading your reply has made me analyze myself and what makes me enjoy a video game. I will almost always ignore a game if it looks cute. Radiata Stories is a “cute” game that I ended up loving. I normally go for things more like Half Life, Baldur’s Gate, Fallout, Doom, and generally more grimy video games. I like it when I can visually imagine blood spilling from the open wounds of my enemies. I preach to my friends about the superiority of American/Canadian made video games. I was thinking about all this and then I realized that I have the same taste in movies. I like my movies to be grimy and hard hitting but every once in a while I will see a Disney movie that I just like and I can’t quite explain why. Aladin, Lion King, and the Incredibles are a few off the top of my head. Perhaps DQ8 is the Aladin of video games to me. I don’t know. All I know is that I love DQ8 and I also can’t dispute your arguments. Good show my friend, good show.

I pre-reserved this game so I could get my hands on a demo of Final Fantasy XII (I didn’t like it much by the way. Still haven’t finished it). When I took it home I played the FFXII demo and then watched the intro to DQ8 and played that first battle and then never played it again. It just sat on my shelf until now. I was bored a few days ago so I popped it in to the dusty old PS2. I was not prepared for what I found. After playing through the first hour I was hooked and I have spent almost 30 hours on it in the past few days. It is rare for me to truly enjoy a JRPG. For some reason I keep buying JRPGs in hopes of finding the next FF6 or Breath of Fire 3. I waist my money all the time and every few years or more I find one I really like.

The JRPGs I am most fond of are FF6, FF7(because i'm trendy like that), Breath of Fire 3, more recently Radiata Stories, and now Dragon Quest VIII. Why did nobody tell me how brilliant this game is? I’m sure that not everyone likes this game as much as I do but this is so rare for me I thought I would waste some time jibber-jabbing about it at GW. I find the pacing and difficulty balance in this game to be perfect. I have never found myself in a hurry to get to the next town or area. This game has found a way to make me want to run around and explore and, yes, fight the random battles. And this game has a LOT of random battles. That usually destroys it for me but somehow it works in this one. The battles are actually fun. The characters are great, the voice acting is good, and the visual aspect is amazing. I think I’m in love. To hell with next gen video games!

If you also love this game, let me know why. (no story/plot spoilers please. I’m not very far yet.)

If you hate this game, tell me what you hate about it. (Also no story/plot spoilers please.)

I would love to see some awesome alchemy secrets that you might have come across... If you remember them.

I hear you there. It is one of the best games i have ever played and it actually holds together very well until the final area where it never ties up loose ends. Perhaps the second to last area is where things start to get a little cloudy but the game is well worth it and team gizka's restoration project should give it the polish it deserves.

EDIT: You know Kaworu, I was thinking the same thing. The whole game would be insanely awesome with bump mapping... if it wasn't already laggy enough on some computers.

This is a bit of a showlow question but: Is there any fighting/combat in this game?

EDIT: HAHAH! what is that word? Showlow??? i meant shallow. sheesh!

No he's talking about this.

http://www.team-gizka.org/

The project is not finished yet but it is alive and well. I can't wait. I've been holding off on playing again until this is released.

EDIT: oh wait, were you saying the planets got scrapped from the original game? I thought you were talking about the project. my bad.

well, i think i like it because I'm getting old. The older i get the more l dislike (and many times hate and loath) Japanese anime. Don't get me wrong, I still love some like Berserk, Akira, Vampire Hunter D. I just can't stand the cute little squeaky characters they flood most of the newer anime with. I also really really REALLY HATE the newer emo characters that I'm seeing. Just bad. another thing i loath is bad/fake martial arts. I've been taking old style traditional Japanese martial arts for almost all of my life and it has ruined many a movie and anime for me. Anime is FULL of bad/fake martial arts. YUCK PUKE DIE!!! I freekin hate it. okay... now I've gone and made a fool of myself again. *POOF!* (Vanishes into a pillar of ninja smoke)

EDIT: I guess i should say why i like this. Because it makes fun of the bad parts of bad anime.  Oh and i hope i didn't hurt your feelings. I wasn't trying to bash something you like to hurt anyone... aw man. Now i feel like a jerk. *poof* (vanishes into a less exciting and more shameful pillar of ninja smoke.)

Also neat mod dude.

Thank you.

This is WAY off topic but this is my post so i guess it's okay... maybe ... ... ...

(I'm assuming you made the game I'm about to talk about.)
"Wilfred the Hero" is a brilliant game. In my opinion it is ten thousand trillion times better than that Barkley b-ball game (not that i don't like that Barkley b-ball game. I think it's brilliant too.). I keep waiting for more games like this to come out but I'm beginning to realize just how unique and rare games like this are. I've been working on a rm2k3 game myself (Shameless plug: check out my myspace link at bottom) and your game has been quite the inspiration. Not in terms of style, look, and feel but in terms of complete and 100% original. Be well and keep up the good work my friend.

on the western rpg side of things, oblivion's was pretty bad. not terrible by a long shot, but still.

You can say that again. Not the worst ending but BORING! I mean, I was expecting all these dark plot twists etc etc etc but in the end it was so boring. Not even cliche(spelling?) because nobody else would do something so boring boring boring.

EDIT: ugh BORING! you don't even fight the final boss. You just sit on your ass and watch him do almost nothing. ooooh myyyy

You speak in emotes.... yet you look like a decent human being. This must be a lie. You are in actualality a 12 year old japanese school girl. No self respecting adult will >.< GAAAAAH!.

uh... what on earth?

1st-
I'm not sure what an emotes is. if it is that little silly face thing you made before the GAAAAH- ie ">.<" then i didn't even do that. I didn't even know what those things were for the longest time. I had to have a teenager tell me. If you're talking about the GAAAH itself then, uh, well, to tell the truth, i don't have any self respect... that's why i like to watch Star Wars and make re-textures of Star Wars video game characters (No offence to those who like Star Wars and make re-textures of Star Wars video game characters.).

2nd-
That picture looks like a decent human being to you? You must be a very VERY scary looking man (or woman... yeah right). I mean... look at it. There are dark blood vessels showing through the skin. The eyes are glowing like the fires of hell. You my friend must be very scary indeed.

I chose the first one because the game balance just works the best for me. The game had really nicely designed areas and super awesome boss fights. I haven't played the first one in years and i still remember most of the boss fights in that game.  Also, when you revisited areas of the castle it hardly ever felt repetitive. The game had the feeling of a cheesy television show like Supernatural. Even though the story and actors were covered in extra helpings of cheese, I still really liked Dante. I sort of lost that loving feeling i had with the sequels.

well, since i've been talking about Knights of the Old Republic in another post i might as well give a little rant about that games ending. Knights of the Old Republic had a very good and satisfying ending if you took the path of the dark side. BUT the second game "Knights of the Old Republic 2: the Sith Lords" had one of those "oh, it's over?" kind of endings. I won't spoil it for anyone who hasn't played it but the story builds up into one of the most epic sagas i have ever read/played and then, all of the sudden, I was rewarded with a three second clip of something and then *BAM* ending credits... What a lame SHIT! I just sat there staring at the screen thinking that something was wrong with the program. or maybe i suffered a stroke and lost ten hours of memory. But no, nothing was wrong with me. It was the game. The ending just sucked. I was left with so many loose ends. I don't even know what happened to the exile... or his comrads... did they die somehow? did they go home and take a lunch break while they were finishing the game? who knows.

*Looking for some way to silence the inner geek*

HAH! I found a way. I must utterly embarrass myself.

This is an actual picture of myself that i augmented to look like FREEKIN SITH! GAAAAAH I'm SUCH A GEEK!

KOTOR2 has serious problems with newer computers. It won't even start on mine. Also NiuHaka, Darth Caedus seems pretty concerened with apperances, and since sith tend to be motivated for different reasons, it's likely some would take pride in their apperance.

Yeah, I didn't word it very well but i was wasn't talking about the sith. The exile was not a sith. Kreia talked about it on several occasions. She made sure that you understood that not all who fall to the dark side follow the teachings of the sith. The exile was a wound in the force. He/she (depended on weather you chose male of female) was a threat to both jedi and sith. Both the sith and the jedi believed in order but chaos followed in the exiles wake.

...Oh no! I shouldn't get dragged into this discustion. I could go on and on about how awesome this game is and i would never stop. STOP ME NOW! Only Mass Effect for PC can save me from this now... and then the cycle would continue but with Mass Effect instead... God help me.

What's with KotoR 2 on the PC?  I can play Crysis on high but this game lags like hell.

I don't know. Funny thing is, it runs perfectly on my computer and i doubt i can run Crysis on high if at all. I've read about people having lag problems with kotor but I've never seen a good reason for it. My guess is that, because it was once an Xbox exclusive game, they didn't program it with pc in mind so they didn't plan for all the different things the program would have to deal with. That's just a guess so it might be rubbish.

EDIT: Oh and my game had a lot of problems until i turned on the Vsynk option. It is defaulted off.

This is the greatest Anime ever. Even though it makes fun of anime, I'm sure even some japani-files will like it. Enjoy these 12 episodes of greatness! Happy Awesome Power! HAHAAAAAH!

Hey Man-O-War!... You're the DOOM guy!!! AWESOME!... wait, i think I've said that to you already... maybe not.

Anyway, Geek mode in- 3- 2- 1-

After one such as this guy is corrupted by the Dark Side to this extent, I doubt they would care much about how pretty they look. He would probably just kill the dermatologist for getting to close to him. Unless the dermatologist is a beautiful woman. In that case he would probably just make her his slave or something... I feel sick. I think i have a geek flue coming on. (EDIT: would this make me a geek or a nerd?... I don't know the dif anymore. I'm probably both.)

Knights of the Old Republic is one of my favorit RPG games. I love so many things about the two games, however, I didn't realy like the heads that you were able to chose from when creating your character. So i went out and did what i usually do, try to fix it myself. I chose to edit a head from KotOR 2 that realy bugged me. The guy was once a jedi and he had a freekin soul-patch bush of hair under his lip. A JEDI WITH A SOUL-PATCH?! I hated it so much that i just had to fix it. It is also available for download to anyone who is interested. It comes with four diferent versions.

EDIT: I also changed the scar under his eye and other small things. The dark side transition is all my doing. He looks a lot different from the original.

If you don't know what KotOR is you're probably not going to care about this post.

This is a link to the site with the download. It also has hundreds of other upgrades to these awesome games.

You know what? I've just been inspired. I'm making what i think has the potential to become a good (good looking at least) game with 100% custom graphics but the music is stolen from other games. Maybe i will stop being a G&D biggot... Maybe i will be reach out and look for someone who might have the musical talent I desire. and maybe i will decide to become more of a "C" type of forum troll. Nice speech. Be well GWers.

EDIT: Oh yeah, and maybe I'll look for some good programmers to make some cbs etc. Or maybe I'm overestimating the quality of my own work... I don't know... I'm just so sheltered. I'm going to have to take this one baby step at a time. I'm not being sarcastic by the way.
