@andyw: I understand that you are going for super-difficult shmup but that boss really just seems like you'd have to be lucky for him not to kill you (or learn his pattern which is equally annoying). Those little torpedoes he is shooting just seem impossible to dodge in any way.
Yeah, my recent games haven't really been known treat the players very well as far as difficulty... I'll probably have to put something in there like occasional checkpoints of some sort to make sure the game isn't impossible. In this case, I'm actually not really going for a super-difficult shmup yet, because that's just the first boss and I'd like the game to be longer than 30 seconds on average. The pattern for this boss is really simple, and it's not unreasonably hard to stay alive long enough to learn it and kill it if you stay away from its bullets, but be sure that the game isn't for those who can't dodge
