also remember that machiavelli wrote The Prince to suck up to the Medicci family so there's no telling how much of the book he actually believe or even really cared about. he wrote it mostly for political purposes to gain favor with the rulers of (florence i think??)

squirtle vs bulbasaur vs charmander is sleecting your difficulty level. bulbasaur's easy because he's strong against the first two gyms, but charmander's ard because fire's weak against rock and water.

i've chosen fire for every pokemon game im a poke-pro

This is why I plan to die in a fistfight in public or something, so that when I die there'll be lots of people around.

idk that might even be more lonely, to be surrounded by people who aren't dying.

i remember one scene in Six Feet Under where Brenda's talking about death and she talks about how we're alone throughout our entire lives, and as we accumulate experiences we become more and more individuals and thus we become even more alone, and we can never really share our MINDS, and then we die, and we're totally alone when we die too.

so imo dying alone isn't really a problem and it's not something i'm afraid of. i think that what's more worth thinking about is what will be going through your mind when you die—in those last moments will you THINK that you're dying alone or will you realize that "hey my life was pretty good". it's all about you and your own thoughts rather than how or who you are with when you die

"i have work."

it's the perfect excuse for situations like this. you can get off without having to hint at not wanting to go.

saying something like "I wish the best for all of you. Goodbye and good luck" would probably give the impression of "heh im better than you fuckerz" and while that's likely TRUE it's not something you'd want to say.

and hell, if it's something that they're putting together over like facebook or w/e then you can probably just be like "sorry dude cant make it" and they wont really PRESS YOU FOR THE DEETS. they probably just picked your name from a dropdown list along with everyone else.

I am wanting to make a platform game in Construct and i'm in the process of designing my main character and i've been looking at sprites for inspiration.

one thing that i really want to do is use animation to portray personality, and i'm having a hard time coming up with what I really want and how best to animate it. one thing i definitely want to get right is the player's character and her animations, but I can't seem to settle on the perfect way to do it.

so i want to look at a few sprite animations that have CHARACTER and i'm hoping that you can share some too. especially if you've made your own!

the archetypal heroic march. WITH PURPOSE. it totally fits metroid largely because of samus's suit, but it's hard to justify giving this kind of march to a more human character. it seems like a good starting place, though, because confidence is a great quality in a player character.

cool spot just don't give a FUCK. this guy's probably a good example when personality can go TOO FAR. i mean, the whole idea of the character in this example is a total gimmick anyway, so it totally works here, but something this exaggerated would seem out of place—even if toned down to match the proportions of a more human sprite.

boogerman's a badass. he struts like his shit doesn't stink. and his run is really bouncy and has lots of energy. i think that his animations added a tremendous amount of humor to the game—boogerman's really foul and based on farting and stuff but it pulls it off by being a total cartoon and embracing that.

his jump is also really really funny.

So friends: do you have other examples of sprites with really emotive animations? what can animation tell about a CHARACTER?

especially in your own games: when you animate your character, do you think of their personality? for a long, long time whenever i animated, I tried really hard to stick to the formula, thinking about a walk cycle that's set in stone. but the next step for me is to take that cycle and sprinkle it with flavor. what experiences do you guys have with this kind of thing? how do you approach this kind of thing in your own games?

stay "cool"

I've been playing it again, too. I think Wind Waker is better than it though. Cleaner dungeon design, better / more side quests / link is more humanised / zelda is less of a princess figure. Doubt that either is the best game ever, but they are my favourites.

problem with windwaker is the horrible sequence about halfway through where you have to sail around the world digging up triforce pieces. every time i go to replay WW i stop there.

So, what's the first thing you guys do in the morning immediately after having a shower? If your answer is anything but "put a family-sized pizza into the oven", you probably aren't my brother!!

i do this once in a while on my days off from work ;o

the new Pirates movie.

um it was FUN I guess. entertaining in an action-movie kind of way. but at this point we're tired of captain sparrow and none of the other characters really seemed to have any flavor to them. imo it was pretty unnecessary storywise (and the original trilogy had an incredible story imo. people seem to bitch about it being convoluted and whatnot, since characters keep changing sides but i think that was a huge strong point and prevented the first three pirates movies from being just sfx action flicks). the story of 4 was straightforward and there was pretty much no real character development whatsoever. ultimately it was entertaining but not much more than that, and didn't have any of the power of the originals.

A friend of mine took the LSAT's and he seemed to have a lot of fun studying for them. Supposedly it's all based around logic puzzles and thinking rather than hard facts to be crammed. He would always be playing around in his LSAT study guides for fun and would share questions that he found particularly entertaining or troublesome.

so i've just downloaded these: nas-illmatic, company flow-funcrusher plus, and i found a torent of "wu-tang discography (1993-2005)" with 36 chambers (1993), wu-tag forever (1997), wu chronicles (1999), the w (2000), iron flag (2001, wu chronicles 2 (2001), collectice (2003), the legend of the wtclan (2004) and think differently (2005).

these are on my mp3 player now and also i've been reading the wikipedia pages for nearly all the artists mentioned. (as is the natrual instinct for man in 2011 to immediately wiki EVERYTHING). imo i am well on my way to becoming wellversed in rap thanks and i look forward to the journey ahead of us

yeah i want both. i mean imo it's important to be familiar with the iconic rap artists if i want to get into the genre but then on the next level i am also interested in the less pop stuff that has a stronger focus on the lyrics etc.

hey saltowlrd. im hoping you all can suggest me some great rappers with lots of smart lyrical content.

my favorite musical genre is normally broadway stuff and i've got lots of progrock on my mp3 player too. lately i have been finding myself enjoying rap when i hear it (at work we play the rap station and i'm always impressed when i hear some slick original rhymes that catch me off guard). and i am very interesting in diving into a genre of music that i haven't had a particularly close relationship with.

what are the CORE RAPPERS that you think i should be familiar with, the icons of the industry or w/e. i mean like in terms of quality not necessary WHATS HOT, but like who is the best. and after that, who else? i know that rap is really diverse and i'm sure that there's lots of stuff out there that i don't even know about but i like.

smart lyrics really turn me especially if a song can tell a good story so if you could point me in the direction of your own favorites i would love to give them a listen! :)

eternal sunshine of the spotless mind.

i saw it when it first came out and it was this cool movie or w/e but i downloaded netflix'd it again more recently when i decided (after watching Adaptation and Synechdoche, NY) that charlie kaufman is an amazing screenwriter who i really relate to and i want to see everything he's done.

I actually watched that entire video and found it very entertaining largely because I was p high but i would never ever ever want to actually play that game.
