Post some pictures of your computer/s or your work area.

Blacked out my keycaps on my old Dell to prepare for my blank keyboard I just ordered. It takes a bit of getting use to. I'll post some pictures of my other computers later.

Just put an Intel X25-M 80GB in my desktop and it is fantastic. I already had great hardware, but you just don't realize how much a standard harddrive bottlenecks your computer's speed.

What is the size of your radiator? 120 I assume, and yes you may want to look into upgrading your radiator then and see how the temperatures drop.

what? never run your electricity bill up? 500w power supply?
You realize that power supplies that are energy efficient do not draw 500w if the computer is not requiring 500w. That setup will probably use less than 100w, hell the processor is 35.

Here:
http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/PublicWishDetail.aspx?WishListNumber=12438666

615 bucks for 5TB of storage that will torrent for you 24/7 and never run your electricity bill up and that is probably totally silent (the hard drives will put out a bit of heat but the rest of the hardware will not). If you already have the hard drives, then it would cost you just as much as an empty NAS, around 250, and that would probably only support 2TB or less, whereas this can RAID or do whatever you want.

If you aren't an overclocker, I would recommend the Phenom II 910, which is what I am using. I got it for 150$ and it is quad core and better than the 810 in terms of cache. If you are going on the cheap and want to chance it, then go for the X2 550 or the X3 720 and try to unlock the cores. Biostar TA790GX motherboards are best for this, but the Gigabyte GA-M4790X works as well. If you go with the 910, 810, or any other quad core, the DFI Lanparty and the ASUS M4A79T (what I am using) are your best bets, though I have not tested it out, ASUS and DFI have pretty fantastic overclocking ability. All of the boards I listed are AM3, but generally come in DDR3 or DDR2 formats, just make sure you are buying the version of the board with the memory you have or intend to use.

As far as the 4800s go, the 5xx0s will be out next month or November, which may be a better alternative. Currently, the only AMD card I would buy are the 4770s, single if you only do moderate gaming or double for heavy gaming or gaming on 1920x1200 or higher resolutions.

Ah, so you don't have like cable or DSL.

If standard ad-hoc methods are not working then it may be impossible, as that would be what I would recommend. It is a bit expensive, but they do have 3G routers, for example Netgear MBR624GU. D-Link and Linksys also have them. In the long run, setting up a formal network instead of the ad-hoc one you are messing with may be safer and less aggravating, but I understand the need to save money.

Why do you have to run it through your computer? Why not just put the router in your room and run to it from the modem then run ethernet from the router to your computer/xbox/ps3 (most routers have 4 ethernet ports or more) and use the wireless router for the rest?

My old BTX Dell ran 55C+ idle on a Pentium D for 4 years and I am still using the processor in a server with no problems. The Core2s are supposedly even more tolerant than the Pentium 4/Ds. You shouldn't have any problem with what you are getting.

Why do you have a desktop that says "Novell Linux" and "Free Software" when you are using Windows XP?

I've been using SmartDefrag for a while and it seems to be doing a good job. I don't notice anything better or worse about it than Diskeeper. Plus I have had issues with the most recent versions of Diskeeper on Windows 7 but SmartDefrag works fine.

1920x1200 will be just as bulky as lugging a desktop around almost, plus it will cost you an arm and a leg. You aren't going to find what you want in your price range and it isn't going to be as good as you expect at all. The Sony or the HP will be your cheapest bets. I recommend HP for value.

I second the ASUS recommendation from climbtree; I pretty much only use their boards. You will probably want a 790FX rather than the GX that he suggested if you are going to Crossfire as the GX limits PCIe bandwidth to dual 8x or 16x/8x (depending on the board) when running two cards, while the FX keeps them both at 16x.

Here is Newegg's lines of 790FX chipsets:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=2010200022%20107191003%201071933047&name=AMD%20790FX
Of those, I own the M4A79T Deluxe, and I highly recommend it, but that is DDR3, so you will want to go with the M4A79 Deluxe instead for AM2+/DDR2. If you are not looking to Crossfire, the GX would likely be significantly cheaper and will allow Hybrid Crossfire with your integrated GPU.

You will want to also be sure that you get the SB750 southbridge, which allows unlocking of your other cores in less than X4 Phenom IIs. Go here for more info on that.

Aside from ASUS, the other most recommended are Gigabyte and DFI. You can see the AMD Dragon Club at Overclockers and see what everyone is using if you want more suggestions.

Is your computer in a cabinet or anything?

Also, wireless n may not improve your reception, just your speed of transfer. Your connectivity is determined by the style and quality of the antenna and the wireless card hardware as well as your router's ability to broadcast. In that regard upgrading to a wireless n antenna may not solve your problems.

Well nVidia has slashed their prices like within the last two weeks to compete. The 4870x2 was the same price as the 280 when it came out. AMD just hasn't responded with price drops yet. Right now at this particular moment, nVidia has the upper hand again in price-performance, however bear in mind that AMD does not necessarily have to lower it's price on the 4870x2 because two 4830s in crossfire beat the 280 for about 240 USD.
