i always wanted to play valkyrie profile.  it seemed kind of dark and dreary and notanime and also norse mythology isn't used enough in games.  neither is shit like MAYAN CULTURE, actually.  what's so fucking great about medieval europe?  anyway like all the dudes you talked to had died like tragic deaths hadn't they?  and you had to........gather them as soldiers and the game ended in a set amount of time which was cool as for the 3 hours i played it it gave me a sense of IMPENDING DOOM.  maybe i should play it sometime.  is it a sequel or a remake tho. . .

valkyrie profile: lenneth is a port of the psx valkyrie profile. and yeah basically you watch a bunch of scenes of characters dying then you recruit them after they're dead. there's a lot of different characters and 3 difficulty levels so the replayability is pretty good. after each chapter you have to send up characters to valhalla to prepare for ragnarok. it has a pretty SAD/DREAMY atmosphere going on and really pretty visuals. it's not anime at all really either which is definitely refreshing for an rpg. the gameplay is pretty enjoyable too, a mix of side scrolling/puzzle things in most dungeons and the battle system is fun. one of the better playstation rpgs

i'm also playing lunar 2: eternal blue which has extremely terrible dialogue and story but it doesn't take itself too seriously and is pretty challenging.

It's a remake, great game too. I always enjoyed the battles, and the music is probably some of Sakuraba's best stuff. I always thought the story was very cool, and amazingly enough the voice acting is pretty spot on.

I stopped playing it and I think I know why. I have trouble with games with lots of optional content/characters because I want to get everything. This game is worse though because there is a set time when people are available (Day 3 of Ragnarok...enter this town, speak to this person *FIRST AND LAST TIME THIS IS POSSIBLE IN GAME*). It's probably better if I don't view walkthroughs for this game.

oh yeah, the music in valkyrie profile is really fantastic! one of the better soundtracks to a game i've ever heard tbqh.

the difficulty levels in valkyrie profile don't actually add much, in terms of replayability

they all end up being the same except some give you less peeps and experience


easy being the hardest mode (????)

This is stupid. Not only is it fucking ugly, there is only download support and no UMD support making it more of a step down since earlier models support both. The DSi is more appealing than this since it only removes the GBA slot and adds more then it removes. PSP in general because as many said, it is easily hackable.
