I don't really know why there hasn't been an nhl postseason topic (come on it's the most exciting event in sports), but now that my favorite team has won I feel obligated to create one. In a tremendous game seven the Pittsburgh Penguins have triumphed over the Detroit Red Wings  in an epic finale to a fantastic postseason.

From the very beginning there were intense match ups and surprising upsets, like the eighth-seeded Anaheim Ducks beating the number one San Jose Sharks and continuing on to take the Red Wings to seven games. There were also some great rival matches, like the Boston Bruins sweeping their longtime rival the Montreal Canadiens (it wasn't the best series but I  bet the Bruins felt great after that win), and Sidney Crosby matching up against Alexander Ovechkin in an intense Eastern Conference semi-final. In the end, it came down to two teams which had met the previous year (with the Red Wings winning the cup in 6 games). This time, Pittsburgh had upped its game, and were rewarded with Lord Stanley's Cup.

On a closing note, one cannot help feel bad for Marian Hossa, who left the Penguins for the Wings (at a pay cut) because he wanted a chance at cup. Irony can be a bitch. So, are there any other hockey fans out there who have thoughts on the playoffs (come on there were definitely the best in years)?

I don't feel bad for Hossa at all, he left a team that he knew could make the finals to get a chance at the cup he was 2 games away from the year before.

Also it feels great seeing two Pittsburgh teams win in one year.  If only the Pirates could step up now.

I kind of wish the Wings would have won because this area is full of Pittsburgh fans and they always go on for weeks about this shit.

it was an excuse to go to a sports bar and order a shit-ton of beer, sooo

That’s right, you have the young gaming with the old(er), white people gaming with black people, men and women, Asian countries gaming with the EU, North Americans gaming with South Americans. Much like world sporting events like the Wolrd Cup, or the Olympics will bring together different nations in friendly competition, (note the recent Asian Cup; Iraq vs. Saudi Arabia, no violence there) we come together. The differences being, we are not divided by our nationalities and we do it 24-7, and on a personal level.

We are a community without borders and without colours, the spirit and diversity of the gaming community is one that should be looked up to, a spirit and diversity other groups should strive toward.

I live in the Detroit area and the Red Wings fans here are obnoxious. When they won it last year I heard about it for the next few months.

ugggggggggggggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

fuck the penguins though for real.  if espn keeps comparing the capitals to the penguins and then says EXCEPT THEY CAN'T WIN A CUP maaaaaaaaaaan fuck that.

the way I see it now either the caps have to make it to the finals or there has to be another detroit/pittsburgh rematch.  I will not be pleased with anything else.

I'm basically in Sidney Crosby's hometown, so imagine how I'm going to feel.

Regardless, I'm happy for the Pens! Great effort, and it paid off!

Hey, I like the Penguins.  They are one of my favorite teams.  There were some awesome games during Pittsburgh Crosbies/Washington Ovechkins series, though game 7 was a flop.  It was like the NHL Board of Governors wet dream.

Overall, these playoffs were the best in a long time.  There were several surprises like Carolina knocking out both the Devils and the Boston Bruins (in Game 7 heroics), Canucks sweeping St. Louis (who were the best team down the stretch, I think), Chicago's goal-scoring prowess, and the rematch between the Red Wings and Penguins.  And some of the saves!  Varlamov's athletic save on Crosby was amazing!  Awesome.

What a great sport.
