Let's Chat
                              with JMickle

Hi guys! It's JMickle here and in this first edition of GW's new chat topic series, we're going to talk about
Gigs, Concerts and Shows!

Now, this all came about as I have played my first couple of gigs with my band in the past weeks, and am also going to see one of my heros, Neil Young later tonight.

As far as playing gigs goes, I have never had more fun doing something I am getting paid for. It was an exhilarating experience that I hope to continue to do for a long time.

But, on the other hand, I rarely go to see other bands, especially small ones like my own. The only people I have gone to see are Bob Dylan and a Pink Floyd Tribute band.

Now, LET'S CHAT![/b] What gigs, concerts and shows have you been to? What were your experiences?

Tell us more about your gigs, how they went. Where, what, anything. What's your role in the band? Checked your MySpace and I like your singer, uses his distinctive voice nicely.

Can't think of any GOD SMACKINGLY GLORIOUS concerts right now, just plain old damn good ones. The last time was a jazz drummer called Ari Hoenig's Punk Bop band (short example long example) which was amazing. Not the most atmospheric set but they a) were fucking stunning players b) did whatever the fuck they pleased. Not the "this is art, let's fart in the mic" whatever-the-fuck, you just never had any idea what they were going to pull off next. I left feeling like my sense of what's possible in music had been raped in the most graceful way possible.

the singers a girl -_-'

anyways yeah i'm the guitarist. My last gig was really hectic because noone really knew what was going on. we were told to play 3 songs and after we did they told us to play one more, then after that one they told us to play ANOTHER but a couple seconds later they were like WOAH NO GET OFF STAGE NO TIME LEFT ARGHH

ah well i had fun.

Your band sounds pretty fun man, got a nice sound.
I've had some experiencing playing a few gigs around here and at most it's kind of average. It blows living up really far north in Scotland as there's little interest shown from people and it shows in the crowd as they don't really give a toss at who or what's playing!

Favourite concert I've been to was seeing Average White Band. It was kind of corny and cheesy but for such old coots they had a hell of a lot of energy to give and it was just a really fun night.

saw buddy guy for the second time on sunday. hope you enjoyed this enlightening post.

actually, the concert was very good but it wasn't as good as the first time i saw him (with b.b. king - although i am evaluating his performance without taking b.b. king's into account!!!). he did the exact same set, which was fine because it was an excellent set, although he played less music and it felt like he was only on stage for maybe an hour. he's an old guy so i guess that is fine. there was one moment where he had this woman who had performed before him come out to sing with him and it was incredibly obvious that she didn't know the words. she was able to wing it for a little while by making up lyrics (although they were ridiculously stupid (it's great to be out here singing with you all, it's a very hot day to sing, i appreciate singing with this guy right here)) but after they got into the second song, buddy told her to start singing and she didn't know the words so buddy sang, without interrupting the song or anything "it looks like you don't know the words, do you sue". then she left the stage completely ashamed and i seem to be the ONLY PERSON IN THE ENTIRE CROWD who picked up on this. nobody realized that she didn't know the words because i guess nobody was listening to what they were actually saying???? no idea. it was embarrassing though.

but yes, it was a good concert and he is obviously getting old but he is still an amazing guitarist and i hope to see him perform many more times.

the singer just said 'play when i come around its pretty much that'. so yeah xD

the actual song is nothing like that, and we dont play that song any more (its pretty crap and long)

our set at the moment is; superstition, long train runnin, are you gonna be my girl, californication, higher ground, lady day and john coltrane (gil scott heron), and a little jam thing we made up to put solos in. we've only played 30 min kinda length sets so far but we got a looong gig coming up so were learning new songs like mad atm.

hope you enjoyed this enlightening post.

you saw buddy guy and bb king :fogetgasp:

why don't you guys (and girls) write songs?

i'm just wondering the sound is pretty tight but i'd like to hear something original.
