Just watched what BBC had of Blur in Glastonbury. For the first two songs they sounded like Damon was drunk and they hadn't been rehearsing for a while, but it got better later on. Some melower songs worked very well, but Girls & Boys and Country House etc. were a bit sloppy and everything was a bit out of time and unpolished. Not bad, but not very good either. Still jealous though.

oh man my best mate went to see them and met up with them after at the bar and got his ticket signed by all of them. he was the happiest guy that night.

how'd you get it for free?

they were doing a free show for the 4th of july in philadelphia (which is where they're from).  it was only half an hour long and we had to deal with a huge crowd but we got pretty close and it was a good time.  then sheryl crow came on so we left.

Just came from a local band's show. Guys of about my age (19), four of them, band's called Wiener, friends of my friends so I half know some of them. MySpace with one demo song: http://www.myspace.com/wienerband

I think my girlfriend summed it up best by "I knew they were very good, but I didn't know they were ridiculously awesome." They are all known as one of the best players around town and seem to spend all their spare time together but all that still doesn't explain what the fuck was happening on stage there.

The music has a lot of grunge and stoner rock in it. Pearl Jam, Queens of the Stone Age, that sort of stuff. Also some jamming psychedelia and lots of little things from here and there, like a kickass cowbell beat. That's it, to hell objective adjectives. Every single fucking thing was so tight and groovy I just couldn't believe it. Most bands, big bands too, have their weak points and moments, fuck that. These guys were nailing every single thing they were playing. If someone didn't notice, I'm pretty hyped about this but I haven't been more serious in my life when I say that if there's one little local indie band I've heard that all of you are going to hear later too, it's this.

^ I was at the same show, the band was so groovy it got a stiff like me moving too. Queens of the Stone Age pretty much sums it up. Not too original I guess, but really great stuff.

at glasto it seemed that in Girls and Boys and Country House it was Damon who wasn't as great, Graham, Dave and Alex were on top form. He was running around and jumping up and down an awful lot though.

At my show they came out and he honestly looked scared stiff, or about to cry. It was one of those weird moments you sometimes see in films, when the main character has to make an important speech, but something else is going on in the back of his mind and he's up there on TV about to cry. Seriously, Damon's face was blown up on these massive screens either side of the stage, and he looked terrified. Maybe it was nerves, maybe he was just overwhelmed or humbled by seeing 100,000 people screaming and applauding for him and his old band. I dunno, but it was a strange moment. Once they broke into Girls and Boys all seemed fine though.

Anyway, I enjoyed it loads. I haven't been to that many supermassive shows, and I would've loved to have seen one of their tiny gigs since they've started playing again, but this was one of those "there's 100,000 people here and every single person knows every word to every song" kind of shows, so it was really something. The setlist was good, even if they'd played only the hits that'd still be a list of great songs. No big hit was missed (except Charmless Man), and they played some other stuff like Trimm Trabb, Death of a Party, lots of stuff from Modern Life is Rubbish (my favourite album) and the lesser known cuts from Parklife. So people at GW like Blur? I thought I was the only one!!
