Dragon Age 2 doesn't look appealing at all, art direction is almost worse than origins and the combat looks really dumbed down (and it wasn't even that deep in DAO)

Bought Afro Samurai for some reason and it doesn't seem so bad.

What on earth are you talking about. Origins didn't exactly have an art direction is just had a bad case of the drab. Dragon Age 2 has some semblance of actual design, and reasons why characters or environments look they way they are. The combat hasn't been dumbed down, either. It's been "sped up." There's isn't really a term for it.

yeah but what killed ff13 for me was how cliche, clusterfucked, and boring the storyline was not necessarily the art or the combat

the combat did suck too though

Dragon Age Origins had a god awful storyline and not to mention the DLC got progressively worse. Compared to mass effect everything about Dragon Age just seems half assed.

It makes me feel better about not having played very much of it at all. It reminds me so much of those final fantasy's I'd play more than halfway through because I liked the battle systems and such, but I could never get myself motivated enough to play all the way to the ending.

Yeah, and now even a casual indirect comparison of FFXIII and Dragon Age II has turned me off from even trying that one in the first place.

EDC, play Dragon Age 2. It's nothing like FFXIII.

what's the best dragon age? what's the best fantasy game? I've always been hesitant to play any 3D fantasy game not set in the Forgotten Realms campaign setting, but I'm thinking of giving one a shot. not that faerun is a particularly interesting place, it's mostly pretty bad, but it's got tons LORE that development teams like black isle and obsidian have been able to harness to create a game world that really feels alive, inhabited, and connected to something bigger than the game itself. similarly the definite rules and boundaries that come along with being a d&d campaign setting also help make the world feel real. a world where anything can happen is not actually very interesting in a fantasy setting

I think MMOs sort of hint at this sense of THINGS MATTER but afaik none have come close to attaining it, probably because of the incentives and gameplay goals they provide the player. actually no, Trickster Online, that Korean anime-style mmorpg actually sort of managed this for a while but later on I guess they found it more profitable to just milk owners of upper-level characters of cash

I liked dragon age and I think the witcher was supposed to be good but I never played through it I got bored and then theres the fable series I thought the last one was boring too. But I bet the new dragon age is atleast entertaining. I liked oblivion when it came out because I could just play my own music and run around killing shit and it was very hard to max your character out but it would prolly bore the shit out of me now.

I wanna new fantasy game to play too that isn't shit

don't ever ever ever play FF13, god I hate that game so much.

DA:O has Morrigan.

Both Origins and Dragon Age 2 were great games, but they both also had their own flaws. Dragon Age 2 does a wonderful job of being entertaining and actually having a good storyline, as opposed to Origins' and it's Save the World story.

dragon age is like, one of the most boring games ever. The combat is just dull, the setting and characters lack any identity (aparently the design brief was to make it as visually generic as possible, which explains everything!). I didn't get far into it because it just had nothing to grab my interest, as opposed to like, Mass Effect which is interesting and fun.

Been playing through Onechanbara, and just brought Bulletwitch. The low-budget action games like these are pretty fun.
Also obv, playing through Pokemon white. Thinking Team Plasma are based a bit too heavily on Peta.

I have been playing Gemini Rue, an adventure game by some indie developer. It's pretty well made, and the plot is really interesting. Only problem was a wierd crash I got that forced me to backtrack to a save a few hours ago.

Been playing the demo of Spacechem on steam, its a really good puzzle game with fake chemistry!
Here's a trailer:

You can also upload your solutions directly to youtube(here's my horribly inefficient one from the level 1 of the third planet):

you can get the demo here http://www.spacechemthegame.com

playing dragon age origins, so far I agree with kaworu. I don't think the visuals are awful, but they are as derivative of the LOTR movies and final fantasies as everything else in the game. it's kind of like watching in the name of the king, except not funny or entertaining! so far it's typical fantasy bullshit, the kind of stuff people are thinking of when they write off the genre. I'll stick with it until I get sick of it though

I accidentally made my character look like a combination of Rikku and Tidus from ffx ugh gug I can't stand when the camera zooms in on her face and why are all the female pcs/npcs so frail and skinny meanwhile the Totally Equal males have biceps as thick as their heads
