playin' some mario galaxy 2 and I'm considering pretty much resigning myself to only getting mario games from now on. Every game is complete shit except for mario games. The last 3 games that I played that I thoroughly enjoyed on the consoles(not counting the retro throwback megaman games) have been: Mario Galaxy, New Super Mario Bros., and Mario Galaxy 2

that's it. Nobody except for nintendo knows how to make videogames anymore!

for real everything else being made is some banal FPSs for people who drink rockstar energy drinks and have a boner for the military, a billion car racing and sports games that are identical to their previous releases, sandbox snoozefests, MMOs which are basically mental disorders that you pay a monthly fee for, and "playable" rpg animes.
listen to the man goddamn!!!

in my opinion they could have used the bee power up more often. i liked the bee powerup when i first got it but was disappointed to find that it wasn't used very often at all

Yeah, thinking about it now I'd have to agree. I also wish it was slightly more difficult. Or at least that when you played through the second time (who even did this?) the difficult was scaled up. I understand that they are catering to an audience that is probably younger than us (maybe not), or that they at least want to appeal to a broad range of people, but I feel that games nowadays, in an attempt to appeal to the most people possible, end up sacrificing a lot of what makes them unique. Sorry, I got really off topic, but my point is that I just wish the difficulty curve... existed.

Playing ModNation Racers. The customization is great, far better than it seemed to be in the beta.

Loading times have become even more ridiculous, though. The game goes through a mandatory install when you boot it up, but races and such still take upwards of a minute in some cases to load???? There is something strange about that. All I can figure is that it must be poor programming.

It should really be addressed. When about a quarter of your play time is spent looking at loading screens, then something is certainly not right.
It's not really bad programming, it's to do with the compression methods used to deliver game content.
\united Front decided to compress content to cut download times and space requirements.
The problem is that it means the game has to decompress the data each time it's needed.
Some have commented that longer download times and shorter loading times would be better, but this would also increase server load and HDD usage.

I've also been playing ModNation, though I can never seem to find a race lobby with anyone in it.
Personally, I'm rocking a blood splattered Jason Voorhees.

I'm considering getting 3D Dot Game Heroes, but the more I look at it, the less I want it as I never really bothered with the old Zelda-style games.... Also, it's almost impossible to buy here.
According to The Sun, it's incredibly long at... 30 hours... When did 30 hours become a long time?
That says more about how short games are getting and about how long News Corp.'s reviewers have been playing games.

Red Dead Redemption has been described to me as GTA4 with horses by people I know that have played it, but GTA4 didn't interest me at all.
I say they look more like german/caveman then asians.

lol?

I didn't.

Pushed on anyway. The reason I was having trouble was because had had no access to precision weapons and had to deal with the enemies on the turrets from a distance then I found a sniper rifle and got past it. I noticed that the Assault rifle seems to have gotten more accurate as I played. I could be just imagining things though.

I'm having this problem as well. It's next to impossible to get a casual race started, but XP races are a little easier to get into.

It's very perplexing how track designing is such a big part of the game and is a HUGE success but nobody really even does casual races, which is the only way to even use custom tracks online.

RDR is almost nothing like GTA aside from the fact its a big ass world and you are free to kill people. The mission layouts and overall feel to the game is completely different from gta.

Yeah, even if this is true, that's not a reason to dislike the game. A car is better than a horse, that doesn't mean one shouldn't occasionally enjoy riding a horse.

Then again I don't care about horses in the slightest...

Yeah, I know what you mean. It feels like it gets more accurate but I think it's just the feeling of getting used to how to fires and then using that to your advantage.

So far, RDR just feels like a rehashed wild west version of GTA4. I'm trying to persevere with it (bearing in mind I thought GTA4 was incredibly boring) but so far it just feels like the same game only with marginal technical improvements and a different setting. The combat is better and I am finding the plot a little bit more interesting, but the game in general just feels like GTA4 (WITH HORSES!).

I'm going to keep playing it, who knows? Maybe I'll get into it.

Also why the fuck do you die if you go into a pond/lake/etc? Could people in the early 1900s not swim?

If you didn't like GTA4 and bought this, you probably made a pretty big mistake. And in regards to water, it's a way of giving areas constraints without invisible walls, basically.

Beat Freedom Fighters. Very bluntly set itself up for a sequel... and the sequel was canceled. :(

I have System Shock 1 on my computer but can't seem to run it. Says its not compatible with this version of windows. Anyone know of "upgrade" software to run it on Vista/7? or hell even XP?

Note: I Downloaded DOSbox but I'm a total noob and to lazy to bother, is there nothing that I can do to just have it run where I don't have to jump through fricken hoops?

EDIT: Got it to run with "System Shock Portable" and oh wow, definitely not what I expected. BTW, this is the first time I've even seen the game running, let alone the first time I've ever played it. I can already tell this game has a pretty steep learning curve for the controls alone. I feel incredibly vulnerable. Don't know if I'm going to carry on.

I went in expecting it to be An FPS in the sense that I've be able to slip right into it like all other FPS games. I'm going to attempt to change to controls, see if and can mangle it into a control scheme my apparently retarded hands can recognize.

EDIT2: Also, its really hard to read any of the text emails/logs in this game. The font is kind of awful.

You might do yourself a favour by skipping right onto System Shock 2.
