I just had to manually download the service pack. Thanks though I probably wouldn't have kept fucking with it if you didn't tell me that didn't seem right.

Also I'm playing Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning. Because I wanted to play D3 and couldn't.

Its pretty run of the mill D&D storyline so far but the graphics, combat system, and leveling up system is really good. The graphics are done by some famous comic dude Todd Mcfarlane. Apparently its gotten pretty good reviews. I like it so far. I haven't really played a full blown action rpg this well put together. It reminds me of fable alot except actually better.

My brother has been playing Diablo 3 and has said that he's disappointed and that Path of Exile is 1000 times better and its still in beta, and its from an indie game company.

Still Playing Dead Space 2 but on and off because of chores/trying to get a job (hey, I got an interview, I'm definitely trying here)

my friend bought a used copy of mirror's edge yesterday and we played through the whole thing and it was totally unremarkable.  but I guess that's old news

edit: ACTUALLY it does star an athletic asian woman who isn't overly sexualized, which is pretty remarkable, but it's totally wasted on an otherwise completely forgettable game.  guess we're just stuck with bald space marine forever

i'm like half in love with D3 and half disapointed.  the half that i love is that the combat system is very visceral (at least for the monk).  like it feels like i'm doing more than hold down left or right, and it feels like each encounter is its own sort of challenge depending on mob attributes and layout.  there's a lot of fluidity in how my character moves, sound and graphics are rewarding, and the ability to switch on the fly is much cooler than i anticipated.

i like the fact that they changed around the quest system, so that it feels like you're actually doing something the first time you play, and it's fairly easy to ignore afterwards.

the character sheet is much more transparent and easy to use.  i like the fixed stat increments (at least in theory), and think it's cool that gems are now the main way that you customize.

i don't really care about the DRM scheme, even though i can see how you would be pissed at it, and also have been lead to understand there's already an exploit to spoof session IDs and steal accts (be careful in public games, yo).

all that being said, i think the game is sort of a failure overall because it seems very cash-shop without actually being cash-shop.

ok, so the problems start with the item system.  basically legendaries (formerly uniques) aren't good - not compared to really boss rares that can spawn anything within level range and item appropriateness.  i guess i can understand why they did this, but unfortunately it leads to a lot of really samey gear.  like, for example, frostburns used to be good midlevel gear because they gave you things most gloves didn't (+mana, +frost damage), but now they're just shitty rares because there aren't unique things that spawn on uniques that you can't find on other items, or if there are then they're mitigated by not having the +stat modifiers that you need to survive past nightmare.

this pretty much funnels all game activity in to the auction house.  i haven't traded with a person in game yet.  everything i do feels like it has the end goal of get money > browse AH > upgrade next 14 points in DEX and VIT.  this is sort of how D2 was, but at least there you would trade with other people (or maybe not - if you were high level you'd just use Forum Gold to buy what you wanted).  the auction house formalizes it, so everything is transparently a quest for higher numbers.  it strips out the fun extra stuff that D2 had, like character building, and just makes it transparently a farmville like click fest where a certain amount of time results in a certain amount of gold results in a certain amount of stat gain.  there's a little bit of economics metagame to it, but not enough to keep me interested.  as soon as they add real money (good luck with that - if you want to give people an incentive to hack your shit then put real-ass dollars in it) i think it's going to lose any pretense of being anything but a grind/buy situation.

i guess what it comes down to is that you could say the same thing about D2, but at least with D2 I had attachment to my char.  my chars here just feel like very obvious time sinks.  i don't assign stats, i can change skills on the fly, and there's no sense of real ownership.  put in X amt of time get out X levels which let you equip X gear that you spend Y amt of money to get.  finding something rare my first response isn't "hey, i can use this on my other character" it's "hey i can flip this for 10k on the AH and work towards getting the next 10 points of VIT that I need for my build".  the auctionhouse metagame isn't compelling enough to make me want to put in the time to actually find shit to sell or to build the characters to wear it.  i can't imagine playing through the main quest again with low-level characters since it's a fucking breeze, and i don't care enough about the metagame to trick out a magicfind build to really compete on the ah.

there's some stuff they could do to fix this.  right now, unless you find plans for an in-demand legendary, crafting is useless.  the rares that they make are mostly junk, and mostly levels behind what you need.  creating gems is pointless since it costs money and it's much easier to go to the ah and just spend a little more to save yourself the trouble and straight-up buy what you need.  if they gave the artisans more functionality, like give them white junk to influence what rolls on crafted items, or give them special items to force specific attributes on rares, or give them the ability to combine gems to create hybrids that give + to dual stats, or add sockets to gear (a socket is pretty much necessary for anything to be good, since +stat gems play such a huge role in character optimization), or like any reason to use anything other than the ah, then it might be more compelling.

one other things that's simultaneously good and bad is that there are now sidequests that you hit when you're running a quest.  like in act 2 i came across this treasure vault that's timed to collapse as you explore it and kill you if you're still inside, and at the end were three high-end chests that actually popped a few rares for me.  that was fucking awesome.  but it's totally random that you get that, and i can count on one hand the number of cool side dungeons like that.  they need much, much more cool side stuff like that - running the main quest is boring as fuck after the first few times.

anyway, on the whole i'd say i'm disappointed, and i'm probably going to force myself to stop playing (it's addictive, but not really fun) until things improve

also, if i'm being honest w/ myself, i have to say that at least part of it is that i'm not 15 any more and as i'm playing i'm thinking to myself like, "hey, what about practicing coding, or how about how you got kinda fat last semester dogg, maybe you should work on that instead of playing glorified farmville"

Its not mind blowing I agree, and it was probably one of the shortest games I've ever played, but I enjoyed it anyway. I actually adapted to the first person 'platforming' almost immediately because I'm so used to the POV, while a lot of my closer friends got kind of frustrated with it. I kind of hope they make a sequel for it if only because its at least somewhat unique.

Also, can't a 'bald space marine' technically be a female?

I'm pretty much the same sometimes. However I enjoy games enough where this doesn't exactly HAUNT ME or anything. II merely wonder if I could be doing something more worth while (in terms of my own enjoyment, not work/progress), then realize, not really outside of just other forms of media like books, movies, TV.

Also, I am pretty fat now as well, but I half fixed that problem with a standing desk and I'm planning on swimming regularly in my pool which is supposed to burn calories quickly. My only real obstacle though is my tendency to EAT EAT EAT EAT. Because food is delicious and I value empty space in my stomach more than the feeling of being full because it means I can eat more.

As for my actual gaming habits right this moment I just finished another hour of Dead Space 2 . I've been unable to play it as much as I'd like because my schedule though.

It was enjoyable enough that I played through the whole thing (although I split time with two other friends), but at a certain point I was just sticking it out because we were close enough to the end and my friends wanted to finish it.  I didn't get frustrated so much at frequently fucking up certain jumps (since those were mostly my fault and not necessarily a fault in the design - although, admittedly, the controls are kind of nonsense, but you get the hang of them) as I did at the lousy pacing of the later levels (which, considering how short this game is, come pretty quickly).  Freerunning becomes less frequent and is replaced by normal jumping puzzles in tighter spaces and shoot-outs or, if you're like me and my friends, frustratingly difficult sections where you have to take down, one at a time, 50 people who are shooting at you.  The focus of a game like this should be in creating a flow, and it does that at first, but too quickly it starts relying on stopping you and making you look for the next jump.  It really should have been a lot better but it's like they lost focus of what the game was supposed to be and just made it a boring platformer half way through.

I also would have been more forgiving of the gameplay if the story and writing were any good at all or if the art style was actually interesting.  But they weren't, and that only highlighted how disappointing the gameplay was.

not sure what your point is but let me know when the protagonist of a video game is a bald non-white female space marine and I'll check it out

Haha this is great because in every game where there's a character editor that lets me I play as a black woman with a mohawk/bald if mohawks aren't an option.  That's like my GO-TO character so I guess  I'm one of the few people out there who plays games with a woman of color as the protagonist . . .

saints row 3 has the best writing and voice acting I've ever seen for a female protagonist in a non-indie game, but it's kind of wasted because it's create-your-own character. most players seem to unironically and with no sense of humor opt for an over-the-top macho guy, and try really hard to describe to their youtube subscribers how awesome and hunky they think he is without sounding like they have a crush. and those who do choose a female character always seem to go for their ultimate anime babe with no clothes and muscular atrophy, though none of the voice sets quite fit

I play on PS3. If you wanna play together I'm down, but just FYI it's so much easier to coordinate summons if we use a phone, that's how my brother and I do it. We actually started some sorcerers last night so they are still pretty low level. But if you are on PS3 and want to play I'm totally down. I'm not like a "super master" or anything but my brother and I are both pretty good, we usually beat invaders when they invade us, and we both know where all the secrets and shit are, and just little info like how/what to level and what gear to use and whatnot. But yeah my PSN is "ridespirals" so add me if you want. I won't be playing much this weekend as I'll be out of town but after that I'll be playing for quite a while still. I'm trying to platinum the game and I have about 75% of the trophies so far.

my main is always a silly paladin faith/stamina/mooscles based type so if darksouls still does things similar to deSouls, mages will compliment my character well

I know people are kind of mixed about Diablo 3 but I'm really digging it. I'm one of those people that couldn't care less about the online play and just want to click on shit until it dies and get rare items. I'm playing as a Witch Doctor and I find it super rad. There are just so many crazy spells that class has that it keeps the combat fresh. Like how many other games can you say that you sicked 3 venomous zombie dogs on enemies and then when they are getting weak you use them as explosives? I do hate when the game lags out though, and the mandatory online DRM thing is pretty stupid. I also think the game is sorely lacking in the music department in comparison to the first 2. But I really like it and will probably play it a lot more.

Witch Doctor is super fun, that's my main guy too. I also have a Monk I'm playing on hardcore, they are really fun too (he's already died once, I re-made him... and I will keep remaking him whenever he dies).

I haven't had any lag issues or anything like but, but what bothers me is when people complain that the game is not good because of stupid shit like "it's not dark enough" or "there's too many colors, this is gay", or saying "it's copying WoW" (really? are you fucking stupid?). I dunno there's always an endless amount of neckbeards that will complain about anything, but I think D3 is a great followup and it really feels like Diablo, like it feels like if Diablo 2 came out nowadays. I think it's a great game.

Yeah. In my case its definitely Steam Sales. I have a large (but slowly shrinking) collection of games I've bought due to steam sales. At this point though I only buy games that I've been specifically waiting for to reach 5 dollars or lower. I haven't bought a game in many months.

However my gaming has screeched to a crawl due to a sudden lump in work I have to do.
