My dad a few weeks ago decided to replace Vista on his laptop with XP and he backed up all of his docs/pictures on DVDs with his brothers. We were able to get all of the .7z archives off those DVDs except the most important one which had pictures of everyone in the family from the past 10 years on it. Long story short, I've been put with the task of trying to save the DVD which repeatedly gives me a CRC error whenever I try and copy the .7z or freezes the computer whenever I try to use some of those DVD repair programs. My mom was on the verge of tears when I told her the pictures might not be able to be saved and I would hate for that to be the actual conclusion to this so..

Does anyone have any recommendations as for maybe a certain professional data recovery service or software to be used? If all else fails I might just take it to the local Microcenter where they say they might be able to save it though it'll cost $200+ and I'd preferably like to avoid that cost. :\

The repair kit will only work if the problem is scratches (whereas it could have just had a problem while burning).  If it is because of scratches though, use toothpaste (you can find the technique for this by googling for it pretty easy).  There is no reason to buy one of those repair kits, they're a hardcore waste of money.  Toothpaste has saved many scratched discs for me.  However, if it just burned wrong, you'll have to look for software.

I gave the toothpaste a shot earlier and that software previously mentioned as well. It freezes about halfway through pulling the data off the CD..

If the information on that disk is that valuable, you may want to consider a professional data recovery service.
