INFOS

This is something I've been working on for fun. You know, the project I fall back on when I'm tired of working on other ones. It's kinda my way to stop starting new projects, though it doesn't always work.

Well, this project actually started when I found out about the Game Maker decompiler. It decompiles the EXE back to a Game Maker source file. So, this was right after my hard drive died, and naturally, I wanted to get one of my most dear creations, Inverted Light, which you can find here. Anyhow, I don't really like how that was, and plus, I never could get my hands on the updated source, the one with all the cool sprites I took from RPG maker chipsets for backgrounds. Now, I have this game here, and I would like to say this is a bit of a sequel to that game I never finished. All sprites, music, etc. are custom, by me. That's right. I think I have enough pixel skills now to make the forest and city sprites by myself, later.

Anyhow, here's the game:

Screenshots look awesome, checking this out.

EDIT: I get this error when I try to start any of the modes:

ERROR in

I get the same error, running it on XP SP2.

But Inverted Light works, though steering the ship is pointless--too slow, and you can't make a complete turn.

Oh yeah, I forgot to add: I included the GMK in there so that people who where having speed problems could open the file up in Game Maker 8. It's not legal to distribute executables made with Game Maker 8 beta, but the games run about twice as fast. So, if any of you have speed problems, I encourage you guys to do that.

Had a little play of it. I dig the art and the music, but the control scheme needs some work. In its current state you're controlling everything with the mouse, so you can't shoot in one direction while travelling in another - which is counter intuitive as you'll often find yourself moving away from bullets, while wanting to shoot in the direction they're come from - which can't be done. You more or less have to find opportunities to sit still for a moment and get a few shots off, which I found extremely tedious. I recommend making the ship controlled by keys and leaving shooting to the mouse similar to the PC version of Geometry Wars.

Overall I think its a good game, controls are just a bit limiting as I feel like I could've lived if I could control the ship the way I wanted to.

Okay then, I'll be sure to work on the controls. Originally, I wanted to try to make a game that was only controlled by the mouse, but then again, most people DO have a keyboard. It also opens up some controls to switch weapons, and oh am I so tired of blue.

Anyhow, thanks again for trying it. I definitely will work on this.

This game is awesome!  It would be nice to be able to use the keyboard and mouse together, however.  Props to you for making the resources on your own.

Don't worry, I got a control setting already done, and right now, I'm working on getting rid of the kinks from the Wiimote controls. No, actually, I'm trying to get the dang thing connected, and I think I'm not even deinitializing anything at all.

Anyhow, good faith screen capture WOO

Edit:
Wooh, freaking Game Maker. Turns out Wii Remote control is all right. Pretty fun too. Maybe I'll make a video.

I tried getting my WiiMote to work on the PC and I could never get any input to read. Glad to see atleast some people can do it!
