please sign your name if you are making forum changes such as deleting someone's signature. I had to remove the mess it was replaced with and I would like to know which slimy churl is to blame.

Pretty intersting!
http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/crime/illegal-downloaders-spend-the-most-on-music-says-poll-1812776.html

Doesn't this just prove that people who admit they illegally download music are the most likely to lie about how much they spend on music?

I mean, by the nature of the questions being asked, I would only assume the portion of the people that are honest about illegally downloading music would have it in their best interest to claim that they already spend a lot of money on music.

It's pretty interesting either way you think about it though. Maybe I'm just looking into this farther than I should. (Although there are enough people who took that poll who could have thought the exact same thing to make an impact in how the numbers behind that poll relate to each other. That's all I'm saying.)

didn't read the article so sorry if it says otherwise but it was probably done with anonymous surveys which people usually don't lie on because nobody's going to know it's them anyway

I would be more inclined to believe the survey has some way to make it so that the answers truly are anonymous before I believe that the survey in question didn't ask about whether or not you actually have an internet connection and excluding those that don't from a study focused on illegal downloading.

But you really can't take these types of things for granted when it comes to survey data unless you look into it personally. This type of stuff can be skewed all the time.

#thingsdarkiessay is the number one trending topic on twitter. Watching the general response is pretty funny.

i download lots of music, I also have a CD collection nearing 350 albums. Using the common GW practice of using one person to represent everyone who does something (such as used in the recent rpgmaker topic) I therefore conclude that everybody who downloads music spends over £1000 on albums a year.

Yeah I do both although I do download more (just because more than half of my music is pretty much obscure bands you can't find anywhere).  It's because people who download music tend to actually be MORE into music than regular people.

I buy most of my music off of itunes because it's convenient and I know it'll be good quality.  I usually just pirate shit I can't buy.

Buying music rules. I've bought a good 90% of all the music I own. Sure I don't listen to a lot of stuff there, but there's a chance in the future I might want to bust some of that stuff out again. I probably would have long deleted my Metallica albums long ago, but having them means if I one day want to spin Master of Puppets or something and I'll be able to. Never know what I'll feel like listening to next week!

How can you buy something imaterial? Maybe if some people had real jobs they wouldn't be so mad about people "stealing" their imaterial "products"
