whatever I just made the Russian thing as a passing remark it has like the least implications of anything in the article

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748703467304575383131592767868.html?mod=WSJ_hp_mostpop_emailed

like there's this tribe somewhere that because they only have words like 'north south' (cardinal directions) they say everything like SOUTHWEST side of my body but they also have innate sense of what direction they're facing like yeah I'm facing north-by-northwest + 3.1 degrees clockwise

whatever my main point was that Wikileaks guy looks like Setzer that got eclipsed by my other post

also I want one of those RGBY tvs because it will make CSI a good show all of a sudden

nothing can makec si a good show, not even if it featured orson welles leading an army of bikini-babe maths teachers against an army of daleks. It would still be a shit show.

I dunno about that. Orson Welles, daleks, and bikini-babe maths teachers is a pretty formidable combination. Would've done wonders for Lost.

Also, I can't believe that I've wasted an entire two hours playing Killer Bunnies. My brain is literally aal;sdj aksnd fsdkfs

I had a proposal for the perfect video game in this topic

http://gamingw.net/forums/index.php?topic=11480.msg1595662#msg1595662

I dunno my original idea was to make it like what everyone must make it out in their head what Duke Nukem Forever would be if it's ever released. Like what would be so WONDERFUL about it (so my joke is it contains like additional books of the bible and secret of life and stuff) but it would be funny to just do it like people let their imagination run wild with what could happen in the game that would be that great. Also some game translators seem insane like didn't  somebody make some super-literal translation of an SNES game that was somehow less readable than the Japanese

I do think beta versions of games have a great MYSTERY to them though lostlevels.org is pretty cool but I dunno just these little differences in the games the trees lack perspective compared to the finished version it has this raw unfiltered quality to it. Like maybe some level design is a lot different and actually not very playable but our mind assumes everything is automatically playable because it's professional game and I don't know. For the record GLITCHES etc. don't interest me but beta versions are interesting to me like why did they turn it into how it looks in the final version maybe because only evidence of them existing are blurry magazine photos makes it like BIGFOOT for gamers I dunno. I also love those pirate NES cartridges it's like there's an ART to them like you think some Chinese pirate game maker wouldn't be emotionally invested enough in the game to make it anything but dull graphics and sound but sometimes it's like really weird feels like some fucking bizarro world to the anthology of official NES games. The music in them is some of the most terrifying stuff I've ever heard. So yeah to actually attempt to reproduce the atmosphere of a pirate NES game would also interest me

and ramci can not not make awesome posts (is that too many not's)

Edit: I'm going to eventually go insane and end up making the most bizarre outsider game ever right

i made that up but i needed to describe the *swings wrists wildly like a french or italian, looks in distance intensily to find the proper word* ESSENCE of roguelikes to thecatamites since he hasn't played any! it was a tough job but i made it. i wrote that on the spot but i do like the fact that X didn't use the identity scrolls to identify it. or maybe it would have exploded anyways (que vadis? que sera...) REGARDLESS OF IDENTIFYING ahahah that's the best idea.

also the scrolls were unidentified by themselves. think about that for a second... O_O' gulp indeed

alsoalso Well earl i made this up but seriously if i saw somebody posting that without knowing it's made up i would have definitely believed that the guy had copied it from some roguelike game. it's VERY authentic!!

I actually thought it was from some roguelike based on ancient greece or had greek architecture involved. I think also the story was people were living underground because the overworld was too hostile. Basically I only played it like 10 minutes then decided it was a pretty bad roguelike for me but I honestly thought it was from that game.

hahaha that sounds goofy/interesting. yeah uh roguelikes are pretty much like i described but in a good way so fuck gw's opinion on roguelikes, it's a pretty good cultural thing we have in/with games.

i'm a gool guy. that's good and cool combAAAAAAAAAAAAA ok tha's it i'm off to sleep i'm too excited tonight  :fogetbackflip: :fogetbackflip: aaa well heh tomorrow it will be sleep deprivation and exact opposite so iuh i think sleeping patterns should a big priority for me.

the only roguelike I ever played was castle of the winds, and that's like a fond childhood memory so I haven't played any others because I don't want to ruin it. ZZT is also a fond chldhoodmenory
ahahhaah ZZT.
there's only two roguelikes i have played (Adom and Nethack) and both are good. Adom is what i have played for most though apparently Nethack is even more cruel than adom (good thing). Marge can elaborate on that...

Whoa, was that the old shareware game? With the one hero where you move around a map and learn like MAGIC MISSILE and shit? If so, that game was incredibly badass. I spent many moons getting my ass handed to me by the dungeonmonsters!!

the first one was freeware to get you to buy the second one. both are free now but apparently won't work on most modern computers (they both worked fine on my old laptop with vista)

*lost the thread of conversation* . . .  OK . . .   *  OH, Faxanadu was a Famicom version of a game series called Xanadu, which had its own anime based on it later. There we go. . .

I found my latest game idea, Fire on the Moon, is the story of two high school boys, Damon and Cyric, sucked into an alternate dimension, how they deal with this new world,  their blossoming relationship, and Cyric's awakening powers- all while running from his crazed uncle.

There may be a novel in there somewhere. . .

man this is an EXTRA NOTE about the whole "anime/western animation trends" w/e conversation and

well see idk how to properly explain what i want to say here because i feel like i can't really TIE IT IN to the previous conversation but i still wanna say it.  today i watched a few eps of the original cutie honey anime (from iirc 1973) and it REALLY reminded me of Hanna-Barbera stuff from that time.  especially when it came to the villains, they all looked like space ghost rejects.  and yet, you could still tell it was anime.  even if you don't pinpoint what specific factors make something an anime, you can tell anime from other animation  it just has an ANIME quality to it.

i've not watched this episode so idk what all is in it but the very beginning of this clip immediately has the parts that screamed hanna-barbera/space ghost to me

again idk what this adds to the previous conversation but it is definitely related somehow, someone else will have to figure out what it MEANS i guess

What it means is that Anime and American cartoons cross-pollinated each other, that's all. (Actually if I remember aright much early anime was inspired by French animation such as Tin Tin .) So animators in both countries were exposed to outside influences which got absorbed and augmented- not to mention some American series- such as Transformers- were done overseas in conjunction with Japanese studios. It's no surprise, then, that some parts seem familiar.

I really wish I did something that more people found interesting. Like I spent a few hours yesterday making a Turmite and thought it was all exciting. I sent it to a few people when it was done and showed my brother and like, it was a really cool thing because hey! I made it, it worked, I'm cool! Computer Science rules! And it was easier than I thought, even though I was using python (a language I had never used before), I only spent like 4-5 hours on it and it worked perfectly! Nobody really cared about it, not even another programmer. I showed my best friend and all he did was stare blankly and say "oh. cool?".
am I really such a subculture(??) of computer programmer that not even other computer programmers are interested in the same things as me? I could be like a sociologist or a psychologist or a linguistics major or something that people actually care about and be able to say cool things and people will agree they're cool like "hey, i learned in my sociology classes that if you put a fox in front of a moving car and a person in front of the moving car 9/10 people will save the fox" and the people around me will say "hmm very interesting, I think it's because..." and we can have conversation's instead of me being that awkward guy blurting something out "Oh hey did you know uh that a turmite can form a fibonacci sequence given the right rules?" and everyone just kinda shifts away
