wrote my thesis prospectus!

The Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt renounced violence in the 1970s, but two major organized Islamist militant groups continued to carry out terror attacks for the next three decades. Violence peaked in 1993, when over 1100 people were killed or wounded, and subsequent government crackdowns resulted in the weakening of the major group, Al-Gama'a al-Islamiyya, to the point where they formally acceded to a policy of nonviolence in 1997. As a result, Egyptian Islamic Jihad, a different group responsible for fewer attacks, absorbed the remaining militant wing of the transitioning Al-Gama'a al-Islamiyya and merged with al-Qaeda in 2001 to form what is known as jamaa'at Qa'idat al-Jihad. This thesis will focus on several critical questions. To what extent has the Nonviolence Initiative succeeded in normalizing Al-Gama'a al-Islamiyya's political relations? Has this normalization been the cause of the fall of violence in Egypt or is their renunciation of violence a result of a severely deterred capacity to carry out attacks? Does the continuance of terrorist attacks in Egypt on a lesser scale indicate that Egyptian Islamic Jihad has a lesser capacity for violence than Al-Gama'a al-Islamiyya, or that they have simply taken their operations abroad to regional 'flash points' such as Iraq – and if so, will violence return to Egypt once these areas cease to be attractive targets for terrorist operations? Most importantly, this thesis will attempt to identify the conditions under which a radical militant group can be politically normalized and examine strategic and political lessons that can be taken from the Egyptian experience with terrorism.

That’s right, you have the young gaming with the old(er), white people gaming with black people, men and women, Asian countries gaming with the EU, North Americans gaming with South Americans. Much like world sporting events like the Wolrd Cup, or the Olympics will bring together different nations in friendly competition, (note the recent Asian Cup; Iraq vs. Saudi Arabia, no violence there) we come together. The differences being, we are not divided by our nationalities and we do it 24-7, and on a personal level.

We are a community without borders and without colours, the spirit and diversity of the gaming community is one that should be looked up to, a spirit and diversity other groups should strive toward.

They'd have to be proud, it got their kids on the internet didn't it?

I'm still waiting to see a death metal cover for that particular song.

I don't like it! It's kind of dumb and generic and the controls are sloppy and also a lot of the challenge comes from rooms which are just plain  stupid.
Why do people keep making games like this!
*makes a bunch of 8 bit chunky pixel graphics, gets out the old platforming engine he made 6 years ago, makes no explicit story but omg its a gravestone so deep*

edit: which is not to say you are dumb or have bad taste in games earlchip, it is only that this game has been made like 1,000 times and i'm really  :fogetangry: that this is the current face of the "indie game community"

i agree with this 100% and the game wasn't even any fun to play because it was so fucking sloppy. also the experience basically narrowed down to REPETITION which is really really lame

I played WOW for about 2months almost a year ago and without realising it, I had forgotten to cancel my subscription and noticed today I've still been paying for it. Its been too long, I cant remember my sign in details or password at all. I asked the bank if they were able to stop the monthly payments on their end and they explained that unless I closed my account theres nothing they can do. I tried calling Blizzard and surprisingly enough they tell me to call back later because of flooded phone lines.

I should have known I would suffer for subscribing to another MMORPG.

I disagree. how do you people like any cactus games if you think that wasn't fun? cactus games are usually almost unplayable aside from the graphics. why make something difficult to do? well you gotta prevent progress somehow.....

I barely play any indie games so this didn't seem repetitive to me, but I see what you mean. I generally only play things GWers make, and I only found this game because I went to adult swim to see if the new t&e was up. this is the best looking block color graphics game I've seen tho (it actually sets a mood rather than being lazy and uninspired) and I actually thought the gameplay was a lot better than like vvvvv and lots of other indie games. if u wanna debate gameplay design I'm down with that until I get bored

it was a little too easy to just avoid the difficulty at some places, and I guess that's what makes it sloppy. but in the World of Games the concept was really good and if you disagree I'd like to hear why! did you play all the way through?

also did cactus start this trend of indie games

i didn't finish it because honestly i got really tired of just jumping across disappearing platforms over and over, i never felt any sort of desire to keep going because i never had a feeling of "GOTTA SEE WHAT'S AT THE END OF ALL THIS", it's like mario without a princess to save.  add in the fact that the controls were sloppy and it was just not enjoyable

i mean i've played lots of games that just THROW YOU INTO IT, like out of this world or things like that, and i always felt like there was something i was working towards and therefore needed to keep going.  you don't know what the ultimate goal of the game is, but you know there's a thing coming after you and need to run, then later you know you were just saved from the prison and need to get out, there's always a reason to continue forward but this game never made me feel like i really had any reason to put up with the difficulty/shoddy controls/whatever

I've never played a cactus game and I don't want to debate ANYTHING let alone gameplay design but my problem with that game is that the idea seems to encourage trial and error, ie each room is unforgiving in that an enemy will jump at you from offscreen behind you while you're timing your jump on the one in front of you or there is a hole in the middle of the invisible floor but overall it IS forgiving since that room will start up again almost instantly. Trial and error like that is fine and dandy on its own but if it's going to be trial and error maybe don't put in so much random stuff in every room too so that learning from your mistakes means nothing. Like that room where there's a guy jumping at you from the front and one from offscreen behind you, the first time i ran in that room the guy behind killed me, second time i ran straight forward so the one in front jumped over me but the second one got me, third time I did the exact same input and the guy who jumped over me before jumped only half the height straight into my chest. Neat. I'll just keep holding the right arrow until the random number generator gives me a straight path to the next room. Same with those guys who shoot fireballs. Another problem I had was the Makes You Think ending that I'm pretty sure is designed to make the player go "Whoa. Mind Fuck." New flash platformer by M Night Shamalanayan
