To day I went to the zoo. I saw all the aminals. My favourite aminalds were the tigers and the meerkats and the marmosets. A rowdy gorilla ran at me and postured dominantly. I gazed in awe at a rhino's vagina. To day was a good day.

Time to make it a better day.

this is a shot in the dark but does anyone know the name of that one book which was meant to be kind of complete alien/outsider thing?? it had a picture of a couple having sex who turned into a crocodile and was presented like an encyclopedia from another dimension and was just completely incomprehensible. it had a latin title, i think. this is a very vague description but if you know it you know it i guess.

i don't think so but that sounds cool too! i think this was a more modern and deliberate approach to getting the same effect as that though, that sense of an incomprehensible object or whatever. i'm not sure how obscure or rare it is (i remember seeing used copies on amazon) but the name completely escapes me!

EDIT: never mind i found it http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Codex_Seraphinianus

I dunno what these are but I'm surprised indie people haven't gotten huge raging boner over it yet

in popular culture

in 2007 the group Betty's Raisin Bran released a double album called Voynich Manuscript as a tribute to the manuscript of the same name

is the boondocks any good? i've only really heard the name up until a few minutes ago but i just read it's got a reputation for being really left wing and getting into trouble for doing things like saying condoleeza rice is a mass murderer. is it any good?

good and bad. I'm pretty sure the creator is kind of a psycho, and he was one of those people who kept on saying Obama isn't black back in 2008. the show features stuff like MLK coming back from the dead and calling modern blacks "a bunch of dumb niggers" and a restaurant called the Itis, named after the condition you get after eating undigestable soul food and Luther burgers. good and bad

i watched the first episode. i don't have it totally figured out on that first episode and that means it's more than just some crappy show so i think i will check it out. I'm gonna be on a 32 hour plane journey starting on tuesday so I'm gonna have a whole of time where i just want to sit back and watch something to pass the time and I can't stand another fucking second of 30 rock so this seems perfect and who knows it might even be good!

apparently the guy was 'mis-quoted' when people thought he said obama wasn't black. what he really said was that obama is not the descendant of slaves and equating obama with people who are is like saying that a half japanese guy who is the son of an immigrant is the same as the chinese people who built the US railroads.

I'm with him so far!

Then he said that the difference is that, while obama shares the experience of being black in america with every other black american, he does not have the shared history of those who are descendants of slaves, which is still felt today. That sounds like a load of hocus pocus to me. Isn't the feeling of that shared history the same as the experience of being black in america today? He made the point that it isn't an insigificant distinction, but I think it is.

He doesn't sound like he's a psycho to me, though.

edit:

actually maybe the is obama black debate isn't such a great one to get into in 2010.

Yeah, that show is pretty terrible. Don't see what all the fuss is all about really.  You might argue that I haven't really given it a fair chance since i've only seen like 2 episodes, but I'm not really willing to sit through any more of them.   Maybe I just don't get "art."

Mcgruder (or whatever his name is) was mainly saying that that not all afican americans  were descendant of slaves, and that obama is one of them.

i know that - you just quoted me saying that! but he said the distinction is significant, when he was asked to clarify what he meant. that's the thing i lose track with him on. not that i think it's a terrible thing to say, just that i don't really get why he thinks it is an important thing to argue about. so it makes me wonder if his show can really be full of on point criticism of the government when he gets hung up on something like that. shared history isn't the important thing, it is how the history continues to manifest in modern times, and he said obama would understand that but he isn't part of the shared history. i don't see how it's a 'significant' distinction, it's basically just a definition.

well yeah, that's what the "obama isn't black" people argue, that the difference between being black and african-american is that blacks are descendant of slaves. also it has been a long time since I watched it, but iirc there's also some sexism that makes you wonder what's a joke and what this guy really thinks. keep watchin...he's a psycho. but I don't remember it being a horrible show either

you guys who hate the show, one thing you gotta realize pretty early on is that no one is supposed to be right. you think it's the main character or the old guy but nope it's no one

yeah i could tell that from the first episode. that's what i meant by not having it figured out, it doesn't beat you over the head with any answers, it just throws some stuff out for you to take in and put it together yourself.

there weren't even any women in the episode i watched so i didn't notice any sexism (bwaha ha ha). probably why it was so funny, women just roll their eyes at their hilarious boyfriends, and get on your nerves (bwhaharghblerf).
