i watched the first episode. i don't have it totally figured out on that first episode and that means it's more than just some crappy show so i think i will check it out. I'm gonna be on a 32 hour plane journey starting on tuesday so I'm gonna have a whole of time where i just want to sit back and watch something to pass the time and I can't stand another fucking second of 30 rock so this seems perfect and who knows it might even be good!
apparently the guy was 'mis-quoted' when people thought he said obama wasn't black. what he really said was that obama is not the descendant of slaves and equating obama with people who are is like saying that a half japanese guy who is the son of an immigrant is the same as the chinese people who built the US railroads.
I'm with him so far!
Then he said that the difference is that, while obama shares the experience of being black in america with every other black american, he does not have the shared history of those who are descendants of slaves, which is still felt today. That sounds like a load of hocus pocus to me. Isn't the feeling of that shared history the same as the experience of being black in america today? He made the point that it isn't an insigificant distinction, but I think it is.
He doesn't sound like he's a psycho to me, though.
edit:
actually maybe the is obama black debate isn't such a great one to get into in 2010.
