Also, I just trimmed my mustache to pencil-thin status.  I just need some Just For Men facial hair dye because it's too light colored to have that Boston Blackie effect that makes everyone go "Wow!"

There's something really offputting about this and other compilation clips from shitty old movies, because they get stripped of all context in the story and just become kind of upsetting images. I watched some random clip from the Super Mario Bros movie recently and it involved Dennis Hopper and Bob Hoskins grimacing at each other in bizarre outfits while they slowly disintegrated and Hopper kept screaming WE'RE MELDING and it was probably nothing in the context of the film but by itself it was absolutely horrifying.

there's a name for this

well I dunno big-lipped alligator moment might imply more just WEIRDNESS like scared because you're so confused what did I just watch

In the film Flubber (a remake of The Absent Minded Professor), the Flubber blobs decide to have an impromptu synchronized mambo sequence for no reason. In several "Makings of" for the film, the film makers all but admit the only reason they even made the movie at all was for the mambo sequence. So we guess it served one point...

I read the TV Tropes page for big lipped alligator moment and saw this under fanfics:

Many stories have Cid Highwind from Final Fantasy VII randomly complain about people interrupting the Dukes of Hazard...and then the show is never mentioned again and most of the time the plot continues as usual.

is bobby hill reading naruto a trope too because there's enough of those

so you are a really nice guy and yet you are still going with making your body a living cage?!? or when you are going to figure out your shit. like i don't think you are the worst scum on this planet it's just NOT POSSIBLE. the real scum don't even think about things or feel shamed of the things they do. they don't even care :(

welp i guess i'm offending and you take this just as an effort to CURE YOU (depression...disease...) but being somebody with a long, deep depression and a huge self-loather i know how you feel... at least you or buttkiller care :(
i'm in the middle of figuring out my life and it gives a lot of answers! i think i know now why i want to live on. still have to figure out why though but so far it's been good.

EDIT like ugh bonzi buddy/ramci way (worried about everything and everyone), i have to REASON things really but it works.

I am seriously going to watch every big-lipped alligator moment aside from those anime ones this is also why people don't like animes because they try to play pretend like anime really does have big-lipped alligator moments when it probably makes just as much sense as the rest of the cartoon like definitely comic books have big-lipped alligator moments it's not like they even have to stretch it very much and non-comic books fans might have incidentally read that particular one or it just sounds strange even reading it. Like Superman turns into a refrigerator in #247 at the beginning of the next comic he's completely back to normal like nothing happened

wasn't there an episode of the x-files where Mulder DIES like he's killed in the most absolutely sure way possible like shot through the heart with an AWP and then the next episode he's perfectly fine

I didn't see all dogs go to heaven but that fern gully scene was really scary.

the only one I've seen is the one where he's in a train car buried underground in the middle of the desert and the bad guys blow it up. in the next episode he's found in a pile of rocks and healed by a navajo cleric.

was going to make some comment about the n64 but I forgot. Oh right like between memory constraints/still questionable translation quality back then a lot of the games had like no dialogue or anything which I think led to some more memorable games because they were more concise. And better because game designers really have nothing interesting to say. But yeah I miss this aspect of old games they were so bad graphics somebody made a comment about IMAGINATION graphics probably did function on a different level back then just to serve it's purpose like 'you're james bond' 'something exploded' and you imagine it cooler than it really is. But now it's kind of, obviously game designers TRY but there's so much stuff where it feels like you could do a better game story/feel just that you don't have time for that crap lolol less is more and whatnot

actually I was jealous of people with Playstations FMVs looked hella cool so I completely detract my last paragraph

also Super Mario 64 was hella weird actually in some way I can't quite put my finger on I dunno. It's a lot SMALLER than I remember it like that one with the giant block dude who tries to crush you I was playing through that and was like that's it? You go over like one obstacle and the level's over. There were probably more things/obstacles going on in one level of Super Mario Bros. 3 than all of Mario 64

I dunno I guess there's too much PRESENTATION in games now like everything is so polished and stuff it's all stuff that distances you from what's going on in the game wtf I just checked out Half-Life 2 Episode 2 why does it look worse than the original what happened to that perfect stark lighting in the original it looks like a cartoon now

I also think game designers focus on still images way too much like was watching a video of original Half-Life 2 in the boat in some dark area with the flashlight on maybe some textures are a little muddy etc. but who gives a shit I felt like I was watching Cops for a second I mean as far as the realism when everything's in motion and the lighting of it

Edit: If you can't tell I am very interested in things like this thing

Edit: Makes another ridiculous statement your graphics are shit if the lighting effects suck it doesn't matter how realistic the models/textures are otherwise

I think I know what you mean.  Video game graphics are extremely LITERAL with respect to graphics on previous generation systems.  Today you have Michael Bay explosions rendered in 1080p whereas on the SNES every explosion in a game would be the same animation regardless of what is exploding.

Like in The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, when a boss dies, the same small bomb explosion animation repeats about 20 times and as a 1990's gamer you can't help but think "damn that was a huge explosion!"  It's more an ICON of an explosion than the real deal.  As an imaginative gamer, on-screen I see the boss explode 20 times, but I could imagine his head violently rupturing and blood soaking the floor before Link digs the magic crystal out of the gray matter.

I feel like that's part of the fun in older games because there was still a lot of room for imagination.  Millions of Final Fantasy fans can look at Terra in FFVI, but I guarantee that every single person has a different image of what Terra REALLY looks like in their mind.  Conversely, anyone playing FFX sees Tidus and can't see past this 128-bit man-child.

Sonic and the Onion Rings

Apparently someone made a romhack where if you pick up rings, Sonic gets fatter (and slower and heavier). Exercising makes him lose weight.
The hacked rom could be found here: http://www.filefactory.com/file/b2873d2/n/Sonic_2_XL.zip

yes this is exactly what I was talking about Terra can kind of be anything Tidus is Tidus the way some designers at Square envisioned him...... it can't be undone. Like maybe CECIL etc. always looked that way in their heads

although there was some major personnel change at Square after FFIX or something too right? Does new art director at Square know they're a gay

Edit: shit it's been the same guy since FF7... well why/when did his character designs start hurting

i don't ever really visualise 2D games i play on a greater scale in my mind at all. terra looks like that in my mind, i don't imagine some blown up anime or real life version of her, really. it's easier to imagine a real life version i guess, cos i just done it almost involuntarily, but i don't do it automatically when i play these games. that isn't to say my imagination doesn't run wild, cos it does, but it runs around in kind of the same visual style as the games. it's not like i am imagining strictly 16 bit characters in my mind, but it's abstract i guess?
