Man, I don't know where to begin... If the game is incomplete, why is it in the full games forum?

Second, your screenshots. Man, they're bad. I don't want to sound like an ass when I say that, but they are. There's nothing except dark, empty maps with dialogue boxes with uninteresting lines of text. Why don't you show a little bit more action? "I hope you made it to the finals" isn't going to convince anyone to play this.

The cutscene is very uninteresting too. It's less of a battle cutscene and more of a carefully orchestrated ballet. Plus it goes on for FAR too long. You'll bore your players with "fights" of such length.

Your story also sounds mildly interesting. You should expand on that while removing.. About a dozen of those character bios? We don't need to know about so many characters. It may all be cool, interesting information to you since it is your game, but the random members who come in here will probably NOT read anything on the majority of the characters you have listed.

Judging from the screenshots alone, I'd have to say that your outside maps seem a tad bit too empty and uninspired while your inside maps seem cluttered with beds and the sort. The beach screen seems strange how the sand squares off when it hits the water, and the water only continues on for two tiles before it seems to fall off the world. The balcony also could have used some work, such as the sides should consist of the two tiles so that it appears smooth and not as though there should be a wall connecting at the middle after every tile. I also have to agree with UPRC when it comes to the uninteresting dialogue.

This being said, I will find some time to play the game as I am a fan of RTP, and I would hate to throw this game to the wayside strictly because of an uninteresting topic.

It's incomplete because I didn't finish, like, any of the towns, on account of it taking me so long just to learn how to make the game. I decided it'd be good just to make it playable to the end and worry about that kind of stuff on my second game, where I already know how to make the game and can spend more years working on maps. Which, my mapping is not so good. But, that wasn't my focus when making the game.

The screenshots weren't prepared ahead of time... They were of flashbacks (hence the black and white) to events that the hero remembers (decided to just put the characters from the flashbacks that the hero remembers more than everything that was involved).

Yeah, I got good reviews on my battle scene though. Don't really fully understand it myself. :P I mean, it is a bunch of 16 bit sprites just running around on cue.

The story is the only thing that I worked on really. Everything else is just a side portion to it. Even so, I didn't get comfortable with making the story and dialogue until near the end of the game. Heck, the beginning is so friggin' cluttered, I couldn't fix it without remaking the whole game. But, eh, whatcha gonna do?

And, if the player wants to read everything here, they can. It's not really that relevant to the story. Everything they read here can be learned by playing the game or isn't relevant to the story (for the most part). I actually just made a post with more useless information cuz I figured most people aren't going to bother reading a lot about the post anyways.

And yes... the maps are awful... There's no way I can argue that. xD If I set out to be a spriter or a mapper, maybe I'd take offense to that. But, really, I'm not... I have made some custom sprites and stuff, but I'm not that good and I'd rather focus more on the story.

On a different forums, I got pretty good reviews for my dialogue... I probably shouldn't have posted the screenshots, or at least prepared better ones. :B

Maybe I'm in the wrong place with this. But, eh, whatever. :D

Don't put incomplete games in the Full Games forum. There's a reason for the name.

Moved.

Well, I gave the game a shot, but I have to deem it unplayable. Here's a few things that are guaranteed to keep you from playing for more than a few minutes.

1. The intro is far too long, and you will find yourself mashing the enter button while resting your eyes.
2. The first boss battle (if you can stay awake during the two 8-10 monster group battles before) will kill you, leading to a game over. Because you have no skills or items that you can use to heal, this battle makes me question if it was intentionally impossible.

No it's not impossible. Buy potions at the shop.

I woulda found it odd that a game that's playable to the end to not be put in the full game section... I mean, it's not really a demo... Just never gonna be fully finished on the maps and other little side projects I had planned for it... Granted, I shoulda clarified that to begin with.

You can get healing items. Most the money you get in this game is from selling items you get from enemies. Like the bear jerky you start off with, you sell it at the town shop. Make sure to buy potions, not armor and weapons. I know those wood helmets are tempting, but you'll need the potions. :D If you just make sure to get the healing items and heal yourself whenever you get under 20 HP, you should be fine.

Another hint, save the Flying Lunge Slash and Lion Strike for the boss battle. The way I do it, I just use the Flying Lunge Slash on each opponent until their HP is dropped, and then Flying Lunge Slash on the Zolidos every round after that to stun them and take them out quicker. I save the Lion Strike for the Nightmare Fiend because that pierces defense. And, like, I said, heal yourself when you get under 20 HP with the Potions you can get with the bear jerky you sell.

Kinda simple, but I suppose I didn't really clarify how to fight these guys, so, yeah, sorry about that. o.o

But, yeah, I probably shoulda made things like this easier to figure out. And, shoulda focused more on certain aspects on my game with my post. But, I'm not good with presentation or bragging. :B

But, seriously, I didn't think that intro was that long. xD Ever heard of setting up a little backstory? xD then again, could be the fact I made the text take forever to go by. o.o Erm, nevermind. =D

With the information I have now I may go back through and try to play it again, but I will have to go into the RPG Maker and shift-skip past the intro.

Alright, well... For the most part, I'm thinking you probably won't like this game. :B Even if ya do, I've been told it only really starts to develop after you complete the first big quest. But, I guess I had to advocate for it just because it seemed like this game was disliked before it was really tested. xD I don't have too much of a problem with people not liking it, but I just didn't want it to be for the wrong reasons (like judging a book by it's cover). :B

I also redid my first post. The only part most people might need to read would be the Gameplay section... I was thinking about removing the character bios, but it could be used as a reference to the armor size they use (assuming the information I put is all correct), so, yeah. :P

It looks like this was a project to see: "Hmm...let me just throw something together while I learn RPG Maker and see what comes out and release it cause I think it was worth it"...and thats OK! (I think) I'm still working on my first project...just iv been redoing it over and over again as I play with RM2k3 more and its coming out really good and am hoping to finally have it out by the end of this year or next...but this is not a topic about my game.

I like how the map styles are simple and thought your Screen Shots were interesting...like you made some old school black and white game...kinda a new angle I think.

Also It seems like there should be like a .pdf guide walking you through the game on how it was meant to be played..like developer tips and such and it would give people a few less headaches.

And who knows...maybe you could redesign it with all the new skills youv learned in game making and come out with "Master Swords: The Remix or something which is a amazing redue of it and will just blow everyone away...or least give people a better feel for the game.

But I have not played it...just talking from what iv seen and read..ill take a shot at it later if I get a chance.

Also congrads on the "I don't think you'll like it but ill release it anyway." kinda attitude...My week point is criticism and I'm worried if I release it and someone says 1 negative thing about it or flames it Ill think I wasted all the years it took to make it and ruin my self esteem...but I'm working hard to get more confidence.

Keep working on it, I say. Look around at the Screenshot topic and get a feel as to how you should fill a map. There's a few scene maps there in your screenshots that are pretty empty. Even if you stick to RTP, there's ways to give some variety to your world. Try and fill it with trees, bushes, rocks or even just NPC's snoozing or something. An empty map like those will not just bore the audience, it will attract negative criticism. Don't give up yet though!

EDIT: Your rooms and indoor areas seem fine. It's the cliff or dungeon screens that seem empty by comparison.

Well, I do know that when I first made the game, it took me forever to learn anything. By the time I made my spoiler video that you see, I still didn't know about the "Move All" or whatever command. :D So, this game was a learning experience, to say the least.

This game isn't black and white. :P Those were flashbacks... I use black and white to describe changes in time (like slowing down) or flashbacks. I didn't even plan on putting in the screenshots when I made the post. But, a friend of mine told me that I needed to, and those were the best things I had ready (granted, those flashbacks do show off the peak of my mapping abilities).

And I really would like to remake the whole game. But, it took me 8 years to make this one. I figure, if I spent any more time on this game, I'd never be able to finish up with other games I have planned.

I better be fine with people not liking it! I could make a long list of things I don't like about this game. :D But, I just plan on not making those mistakes in my next game.

But, I just might take a look at that screenshot topic. :D Cuz, I really do need to work on my mapping. :|

What I use for my maps are just walking around my house or watching TV shows like on the style network that show a lot of designing, then I look at my game and take there ideas into action...I mean, Iv never seen a room with random beds in the center of the room...Would I want my house to look like that? Maybe if I was a hospital...Beds are normally bumped up twords the walls or by the window..and if i there are only 3-4 NPCs in the house they should need at least 4-5 beds max...not 9-12 unless its a hotel...and on top of that hotels have maybe 2 beds to a room max. Just look out at your backyard...there's enough inspiration for your world map...things are not flat, they rise and fall, trees fill up the corners with dark brush in the middle with sand to the side.

Take real life for your mapping inspiration and you'll do a lot better...and don't rush though maps...each map should take you at least 15 min to design and set up with maybe going back later to add detail.

Least it helps me.

Why is the text blanked, really? Try [hide ] hide instead, it just annoys the hell out of me right now. Hide will condense it all under a header.
How about no!? You are an idiotic version of a baboon.

Ooo, that's why the spoiler looked so sucky! :D Silly forum codes! :B

And yes, I know what everybody said. Basically, they're not gonna play it because judging a book by it's cover is more fun. But, I do have to give them the benefit of the doubt. I mean, I don't play that much for games. And not sure I'd play them too if the topic doesn't interest me. And, like I said, they could very well hate it. Even if they don't, not sure they could play it long enough until, as I'm told, it gets good... Still annoys me that, as far as I can tell, not many have really tried it. :\ I could be wrong... maybe you did try it and just happened to agree with everybody. :D

And yeah... I got... like... a couple years into my game... Into the "Master Swords" tournament... When I wanted to make a weapon... for when you beat it... Called the "Master Sword"... It was ONLY THEN I realized how retarded I was. xD
