Art - Finished The launch of GW7 (Read 3753 times)

  • Group: Guest
Hello!

As you can see on the mainsite GW7 has been launched. We are happy about this, and without going into too much detail about our ideas we will say that GW is now entirely service-based. What this means is that the community is - or at least will be, when we have even more to offer - divided into sub-sections that are to be connected by the mainpage portal. Right now we have a blog, and in time we hope to be able to add game development resources such as graphical resources, a devlog system and other interesting functions that will cater to our userbase's needs. All future functions will be available in the black bar at the top which will be displayed on both the forums and the mainsite once everything is done.

How does this differ from GW6? Well, instead of depending on user-written content we have decided to feature news and articles from around the web while still keeping a portion of the site for featured community projects and articles. This means that we won't have any staffers at all (yet), but we will feature any good article, game or other type of creative effort that we come across here. Should you feel like contributing, all you'll have to do is PM or e-mail an admin, or post a written contribution in the form of a topic and we will probably pick it up. In fact, there will probably be a lot of featured content that weren't intended to be in the first place. :)

So that's the gist of it! I could write more, but I think this sums up the direction of the site pretty good.

Welcome to GW7, and I hope you'll enjoy being a part of the community.

Thanks to:
ASE, Bart, ramirez and leafo. Also the people who spent time making graphics for the mainsite.

P.S. Follow us on Twitter.

will there be a separate board for article submissions because some articles would look REALLY WEIRD if someone thought they were a regular topic

edit: though i guess maybe we could just tag them as articles?

Maybe a topic, but mostly no. The current idea is to fetch user-made content and feature it on the mainpage as it comes. This is partly for quality control and partly to make sure content is relevant and isn't being written for the sake of being written. There's no need to set up a submission system when articles are either too few or just kind of lackluster.

If you want to have something featured, PM or e-mail an admin.

are the mainsite sections going to focus on gamemaking or will there also be like an arts section or a media section as well?

When I opened the article, I see something like 'You're banned and can't post comments' .... wait a sec.. WHAT? After a while I realized I just haven't logged in. Please fix that, you got me shocked as hell

Oh, and the mainsite looks cool, I like the clean design. Hopefully this won't be like GW6..

Can you elaborate on the future services that twitter will be used for?
"I would be totally embarassed to write this, even as a fakepost. it's not funny except in how you seem to think it's good. look at all the redundancies, for fuck's sake. "insipid semantics, despicable mediocrity" ugh gross gross. I want to take a shower every time I read your prose." -Steel

Twitter is already giving free internet cool points as a service. Still needs some Facebook and Digg links. All the cool sites got 'em!

So...it's really just a mechanism to get more members? Not that that's bad or anything.

You can follow GW updates with your trendy iPhone, since everyone who's worth anything has one and has a Twitter app to do with it. That's pretty neat!

Twitter isn't a GW service, it's just a way to keep up to date with what we're currently working on. We implemented it because it's a fast way to encourage feedback, discussion and input. The fact that it draws members is also a plus.

Mainsite looks pretty good design wise... but god what a waste of space on the left and right. What is this optimized for 800x600 or something?

like luigi said, the sidebars are way too big. other than that good work buddy.

That’s right, you have the young gaming with the old(er), white people gaming with black people, men and women, Asian countries gaming with the EU, North Americans gaming with South Americans. Much like world sporting events like the Wolrd Cup, or the Olympics will bring together different nations in friendly competition, (note the recent Asian Cup; Iraq vs. Saudi Arabia, no violence there) we come together. The differences being, we are not divided by our nationalities and we do it 24-7, and on a personal level.

We are a community without borders and without colours, the spirit and diversity of the gaming community is one that should be looked up to, a spirit and diversity other groups should strive toward.

I'm just making fun of the Web 2.0 and mobile apps craze that's currently going on.
