Its good advice

i just found out my uncle took too much acid in the 70s and now is schizophrenic. i always knew about his, uh, "illness", hes been institutionalized for a long time now. but i just found out my ma thinks the acid did it

now im kind of afraid of acid

This guy that lives with us is schozophrenic. My mom and dad said it happened because of drug abuse but I don't know if acid did it or not. But he's always been pretty slow and though substance abuse might of made it worse, I dunno really.

Also theres this really spacy guy that I went to sea school with, he was a heavy set guy and he seemed pretty slow but not retarded or anything. When I asked him about it he said that it was because he took too much acid when he was in highschool.

I believe that you can get permanent mental damage from stuff like that but only if you don't have a strong enough mindset to handle it. Kind of like if you're a weaker person mentally and you see something really traumatic it can permanently damage your mindstate.

i don't think there's any evidence to support acid causing stuff like that, but psychedelics in general have been known to exacerbate mental illnesses

is it even possible to gather evidence for that?

A bad trip is known to be a "triggering" event for people who have latent schizophrenia, as are any number of traumatic events. It's thought to have a genetic factor to it because schizophrenia tends to run in families so if your uncle is a blood-relative Beasley I would seriously be careful. I'm not trying to scare you or anything but it happened to someone I knew who also had an uncle with it, there was some other drug abuse going on in his case but acid is ultimately what did it.

The important thing to remember is that LSD doesn't GIVE you schizophrenia, it just brings it out of you. It would come out eventually anyway, the LSD just helped it along. But remember LSD doesn't GIVE YOU schizophrenia at all.

maybe. i mean i don't think you could make a definitive statement like this. who knows, there may be tons of cases of folks with latent schizophrenia who avoided LSD and psychological trauma and lived a completely normal sober life. 

not trying to be a wet blanket or anything but LSD is an extremely powerful psychedelic active in doses in the microgram range that can seriously fuck with someone psychologically. It's not like the concept of an "acid casualty" is unheard of or anything.
