I think they need more prominent former pop superstars to die off in tragic ways.

dude, the u2 album STILL made 56,466,000 if it sold for like $18 an album.  Definitely at least 50 million dollars of revenue-- not sure how much profit depending on production costs.

The only thing that will happen to the industry is that it will become less insanely lucrative on the pop side.  And that is FINE with me.  So what if the execs aren't making seven figures anymore?

From what I've been told and seen by talking to record store owners etc... many obscure bands are selling much more albums than a few years back because of the internet. The only people that are really hurting are the big names. Smaller bands are pretty damn happy in general.
