Sequel? likely. The article says: "he wants to make another film set entirely on an alien planet."  before making a sequel. and I'm pretty sure they are talking about a non-district 9 movie first.

never heard of an open-ended ending?

I'm sure hes heard of them. Maybe he just doesn't like them. I'm torn about them. My OCPD-ness wants an ending. but my side that wants some mystery to be left says it likes open endings.

but my OCPD-ness overwhelms that entirely. So in order to keep from losing my mind. I have a rule for open endings: I auto-assume that everything turned out fine in the end. and my mind just accepts that as canon. Why? Its the most common ending anyway. I like to stay at least somewhat positive. And the only real way to have a story actually end in a negative way and it to be an actual ending is that everyone involved dies.

They are technically 2 different things... at least I'm relatively sure of that. but they are sort of similar. OCD is generally considered to be much more extreme than OCPD.
