(CNN) -- James Cameron's completely immersive spectacle "Avatar" may have been a little too real for some fans who say they have experienced depression and suicidal thoughts after seeing the film because they long to enjoy the beauty of the alien world Pandora.

Quote
"Ever since I went to see 'Avatar' I have been depressed. Watching the wonderful world of Pandora and all the Na'vi made me want to be one of them. I can't stop thinking about all the things that happened in the film and all of the tears and shivers I got from it," Mike posted. "I even contemplate suicide thinking that if I do it I will be rebirthed in a world similar to Pandora and the everything is the same as in 'Avatar.' "

Other fans have expressed feelings of disgust with the human race and disengagement with reality.

Quote
"When I woke up this morning after watching Avatar for the first time yesterday, the world seemed ... gray. It was like my whole life, everything I've done and worked for, lost its meaning," Hill wrote on the forum. "It just seems so ... meaningless. I still don't really see any reason to keep ... doing things at all. I live in a dying world."

That's another good thing about Avvy I guess, apart from glorious GFX I mean. It's such an Immersive Experience it makes creepy furries suicidal ^.^

can we make a law as a society that anyone who felt depressed over avatar not being real is not allowed to have children

killing them would be too harsh but we certainly don't need more of these people, since they seem to have some sort of imbalance

Movies suck when it comes to cool aliens.  I've read a bunch of books where aliens aren't remotely humanoid, and every time I wish movies could be more like books in the sci-fi genre.

The idea behind the alien world set in the movie Avator has discouraged me to live my life here in the real world since I live in a real shit hole as a result I will no longer go to work or shower.

The movie "Avatar" is actually a large scale memetic attack being perpetrated by an advanced alien race who uses not weapons, but culture and propaganda for war. "Avatar" is the equivalent of a nuclear weapon. We must fight back against these alien invaders before their attacks turn our own people against us. We do NOT want to be the ones welcoming them when they arrive. Here are a number of tips for avoiding the effects of their assault:
1)stay away from any media where people have reported emotional attachment ("Avatar" is a prime example). This is their number one weapon. They are secretly infiltrating your subconcious and forcing you to think like them and readying you for their arrival
2)every morning meditate on what it means to be a human for at least 15 minutes. The more you remember what you are and where you came from, the less they can do to you
3)avoid fantasies where you are on other worlds or part of alien cultures. If you begin dreaming about strange people and places, it may already be too late for you. I would suggest doing step 2 for at least an hour every day, until the dreams or daydreams go away.

Remember folks: Stay human!
If they can break our mindset, they win!

hey man i use the word "gotten" a lot and nobody ever believes it's a word. It's in the dictionary, but it's always noted as a colloquialism and they never honor the bet. Fuck those people. I say "boughten" too.

Anyways I read that article and it was really really well written. I'm going to see Avatar with my work on Friday, and I'm pretty excited for the visual aspect but not hoping for anything else.
yes coulombs are "germaine", did you learn that word at talk like a dick school?

i don't believe in boughten but gotten is definitely a-ok in my book (though i don't think it fits into EVERY situation where got would be used)

edit: yeah this sort of makes that distinction

"i had boughten one of those but it broke." Maybe thats not a good example but for whatever reason "boughten" comes to me sometimes as a natural way to say that I had bought (see here I could have said boughten) something.
