Usb Cooling Pad

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/USB-3-LED-Fan-Light-Laptop-Notebook-cooler-cooling-Pad_W0QQitemZ180391782521QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item2a00302879&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

Apart from the fancy lights, will this thing work and cool my laptop? How much of a difference will this make (if any)?

It works but it will drain your battery. Unless your laptop is having problems with overheating a regular lap pad that allows airflow between itself and the laptop will be fine

cooling pads seem like an annoyance.

why is your computer heating up in the first place?
sometimes, you need to quote yourself to feel important.

What happens is that they get full of dust and you can't clean them out because they're a laptop. If I were a laptop designer I would have a hepa filter on the entrance and exit of airflow, like a vaccum cleaner so that you don't end up with that fan-on-all-the-time-and-lap-burning-sensation whenever you turn the damn thing on.

I need to open my laptop and clean it out but I don't have the special HP screwdriver to do it. My friend had an alienware that had got to this stage and he completely disassembled and reassembled it and it worked fine. The difference was instantly visible from the reduction in overheating.

from what I understand, these things are really only useful if you are actually using them on your lap.  if you are just like using the laptop on a desk, simply elevating it a bit (with either a stand or a stack of magazines) will do wonders with preventing your computer from overheating though.

This, only I used lego bricks to hold it up.

Also don't get a Belkin cooling pad, I had one and it gave me trouble non stop and then finally died a few months later.
If an image says a thousand words, and a video shows 24 images each second, then why couldn't they condense everything I needed to learn at school into one hour long video :V

Mine is "HP-Compaq" which means I get gay screws. It is just a Compaq with HP written on it though. Such a shit laptop. I will be lugging my nice desktop to uni in 2 weeks. You miss having 1920x1200 pixels of workspace when you downgrade to that glorified lower body radiator.

Thanks for your replys. I don't think dust is the problem as it's only about 4 months old. It has always ran hot and the fans on alot. I don't know if it's too hot or normal for a dual core 2.13 witha radeon Hd3450. Ima gonna have to install one of the monitoring programs that keep an eye on the internal temp of your pc and use that to see if it's within safe levels. The main problem is the fans themselves - there frickin' noisy and thats off putting.

I do use it on my lap but not often 'cause it's hot and causes fans to start if there not already on.
