I made this topic to discuss the awesome series that Dark Cloud is.. DC1 was okay I guess... I beat the whole game using that Indian Genie chick.. her name was Ruby or something, but DC2 had so much stuff to do! I remember not knowing what to do next cause there was so many things to do! Do I lvl up a character? Do I got picture gathering? Do I upgrade my robot? It was a linear storyline with open ended choises.. plus how many games can you build you own town?

Also do any of you consider Rogue Galaxy as DC3??

Discuss!

RPG Maker?

But no I do not consider Rogue Galaxy as the resent Dark Cloud game even if it was a amazing game.

Dark Cloud 2 had way better game play but the story seemed lacking compared with original Dark Cloud.

Edit: sorry I was working on the Structure and wording.

The story was shit.. ex: a butterfly that turns into a female human so she could hang out with some dwarfs for a couple of days and then go back to being a butterfly and killing people and shit? What were they thinking??

It was pretty emotional later on. Sometimes good stories contain next to no emotion and end up worse for it (think FFXII).

I bought the first Dark Cloud. I never completed the first dungeon because the game was uninteresting to me, though Dark Cloud 2 is supposedly a lot better.

I have Dark Cloud 2 and I stopped playing it when I realized it was just basically going through one large dungeon to yet another larger dungeon, over and over again, with hardly any interesting storyline to drive it all. Sure, there's a lot going on mechanically but thematically it just didn't engage me and spur me on to continue.

yeah it's a really bad game. never seen such repetitive and shallow gameplay in my life.
also there SHOULD BE lot of stuff going on mechanically but it's the shitty design really makes it all quite meaningless.

I bet you wouldn't say that if it clearly stated it was a dungeon crawler.

I would. The first DC was fun from the start to end, in it's boring sort of way. While DC2 pretty much lost my interest at the beginning with the clowns or what the hell ever happened. :( It was a very disappointing sequel.

The thing that really pissed me off about Dark Cloud 2 is how when you got killed that was it,you fucking died and had to reload your save... in the first DC when you died you simply got teleported back to town and lost half of your gold or w/e.. if the first game had this feature why in the fuck would you take it away in the sequel?
This wouldnt be a problem if they enemies didnt fucking gangrape you or how about when you cant find those Defense Up items.. w/e they are called and you got a lower defense and the enemy fucking one shots you and boom ur dead... wtf one time I went for 2 hours without saving and some asshole monster killed me,I havent played since then...

I only played a little of DC and DC2, but from what I played, Level 5 learned a lot of lessons between the productions of the two. DC2 was definitely a lot better than the first one. That's my personal opinion though. It's probably because of the expanded options and all of that stuff. That, or I'm just a whore for graphics. Or something.

As far as Rogue Galaxy goes, it's probably the only Level 5 game I've played through completely. It was, at the least, a really great game. Tons of options, and tons of content. The characters, especially the protagonist, were probably the best I've seen in ages. All that being said, the story went fucking south fast, which was a major turnoff. If they hadn't screwed it over so vastly, it probably would be one of my most favorite RPGs ever. But uh, , I literally could not play that game for a month. And no, that is not the only instance where I was utterly repulsed from that game. I guess my main gripe with the game is that it felt like the entire second half of the game was rushed.

Of course the game's saving grace, once again, lies in the gameplay(which is... really odd for an RPG?). So much so, that I was thinking about playing it again. I'd probably play it up until the , and then never touch it again.

Thats funny because I never beat Rogue Galaxy but both DC and DC2 I beat other then the secret last Lv for both games.DC I stoped at the 80th floor and DC2 I got to the secret boss and I fucked it up and forgot to save and I never played it again. I was so pissed.

I own the second Dark Cloud, I found it more interesting and open ended when it came to game play, fighting wasn't much different from the previous game even with weapon level ups, though the style of leveling weapons did change and found it less exciting to say the least... yeah I wasn't a fan of that part. The characters weren't as interesting and I felt the storyline had something lacking to it... can't put my finger on it actually just a feeling.

I absolutely loved the first one, maybe it is just nostalgia.
