Kamen Rider Double (仮面ライダーW(ダブル), Kamen Raida Daburu, Kamen Rider W, Masked Rider Double) is the upcoming eleventh series in the Heisei period run of the Kamen Rider Series and the twentieth Rider series overall. It is set to premiere following the finale of Kamen Rider Decade on September 6, 2009, and airs alongside Samurai Sentai Shinkenger in TV Asahi.
Story:In the ecologically-minded city of Futo ("Wind Capital"), there are many windmills and the people live in harmony. However, the Sonozaki Family sell mysterious USB memory sticks called Gaia Memories to criminals who use them to become monsters called Dopants, committing crimes with the police force powerless to stop them. The hardboiled (or rather half-boiled) detective Shotaro Hidari works with the mysterious Phillip who possesses the true Gaia Memory. Using their own Gaia Memories, Shotaro and Phillip use the Double Driver belts to transform and combine into Kamen Rider Double to fight the Dopant menace.
Characters:Shotaro Hidari (portrayed by Renn Kiriyama) is a self-dubbed "halfboiled detective" who dresses in the style from the 1970s. He works as a detective in the city of Fūto under his mentor Sokichi Narumi who died in an attempt to stop the Sonozaki Family by saving Phillip. Refusing let his mentor's death be in vain, becoming Sokichi's successor, Shotaro is bent on stopping the Dopants, forming the left half of Kamen Rider Double. Shotaro represents the physical aspect of Double.
Phillip (portrayed by Masaki Suda) is a mysterious young man who works as Shotaro's partner after he and Dectective Narumi save him from an experiment conducted by the Sonozaki Family. Possessing the true Gaia Memory, he can think like a supercomputer and can astral project his mind to directly interface with the knowledge of the Gaia Library for information on Dopants. He fights them with Shotaro, entering his body to form the right half of Kamen Rider Double. Phillip represents the mind of Double.
Akiko Narumi is Shotaro's boss and landlady at the Narumi Detective Agency. She has come to Futo from Osaka to continue in her father's place after he was killed. She serves as a personal assistant while on the job as well as keeping Shotaro on the right track. She has a black and white view of the world and tends to say "I never heard of it!" when she is edged to think otherwise. Akiko Narumi is portrayed by Hikaru Yamamoto by the way.
"Being a Rider"So in Double, Philip and Shotaro have to wear the belt called DoubleDriver, and insert their respective Gaia Memories to transform, their default form's the Cyclone Joker. Actually, there are nine combinations for Double's different forms (and four are being revealed):
Cyclone + Joker : the standard form
Heat + Metal : this is like his shaolin dude form [seen ][/seen]The Adversaries:[/b]
Basing on the show, it seems that the Sonozaki Family will be the main adversaries of our two-manned Rider, since some of the members of that family had their own Gaia Memory to be a monster called Dopant.
My verdict:So what's the catch? Well, Masked Rider Double (W)
got a Sherlock Holmes + Inspector Gadget blend in this new series. Also, this will remind you of Ultraman Ace where 2 people are required to be one Masked Rider, and possibly watch this while playing "Two Become One" by Spice Girls ::LOL::.
What I strangely hate here is that Philip wears girly stuff, in spite of his bad-ass abilities throughout the series. So if anyone watched Kamen Rider Den-O, well... this series had some comic moments too.
The monster designs were kinda 2001'ish, but compensated with great CG effects though.
Another WTF this time, Kamen Rider W uses Gaia Memory USBs to transform by the way.
EDIT: There are no subtitled versions of this series released yet, I only watched it in its original language (RAW), and understood it by context.
