I was laid up on a couch for a while, a few years back when I first tore up me knee. Some low budget looking movie came on, like a half comedic modern day desert caper with bumbling crooks, an honest (and ostensibly, pure) female lead, and an older guy playing a private detective/sheriff (I'm a little foggy on the details, it was several years ago and I was on painkillers.) Anyway - I watched the movie, and enjoyed it. I'm not saying I thought it should win any Oscars or that I'd be inclined to run out and buy it so I could watch it again, but it was enjoyable enough to pass the time with. Now, at the end, I find out it was fairly heavy handed with its Christian message, and that it turns out it was apparently financed/put on tv by The Church of Latter Day Saints (again, it might have been a different group, I was kind of out of it.)

When I was younger, I did time in a private school where I had to memorize bible passages and where one of my favorite teachers  got up during an assembly and said that everything we did was wrong, unless we were devoting our entire lives to God - nothing else mattered - not family, not school, not anything. Suffice to say, I was fairly soured on the concept of organized religion from there on out.

The point of that meandering and parenthesis laden mess is this - if the movie broadcast, at the very outset, that it was a religious puff piece, I probably would have changed channels right away. However, because it was presented in a different way, I gave it a chance.
