Torchlight is a pretty nifty Diablo-style action RPG made by Runic Games. A lot of the studio is made up of ex-Blizzard employees. This game is only $20 on Steam and through some other direct-download services. The boxed version will be available early next year.

Some game info in handy bullet-point format:
- Is a Diablo-style action RPG.
- Includes three playable classes, which boil down essentially to melee fighter, ranged fighter, and magician.
- Uses a Diablo/WoW style loot system, with common, rare, unique, and set items, and socketable gems.
- Has a Pet companion system. Your pet can carry additional loot, and you can send your pet back to town to sell your extra items without interrupting your game.
- Has four difficulty levels, plus "hardcode" mode, where your character can only die once.
- Has an endless dungeon available after you complete the main quest.
- Has an "heirloom" system, which allows you to retire a character and transfer one of its items to a new character.
- Lets you transfer items between your characters.
- Includes a full-featured editor that can be used to create new fixed and random maps, add new items, monsters, etc. (Runic used it to make the game content.)
It's really good, guys. It's basically like they took Diablo and condensed it down into a shorter game that gives you more fun earlier on.
The only real downside is that it's
single-player only. It would have been great fun to romp around the dungeon with some friends, but Runic is currently developing an MMORPG in this game's style, so in fact pretty soon we'll be able to do just that. :)
Come on, people. It's twenty bucks for a very polished game. Check it out.
