i meant if you torrented the game, then you can't get the patch because the entire game was changed so nobody has cracked it again yet
i was very put off by the ridiculously long load times(about 3 mins start load and another 1 min everytime you changed maps) and the patch fixed it a lot.

I wouldn't torrent it simply because this is a relatively new developer (not to say they are inexperienced, but as a whole), and they just came out of a poor financial situation. It's good to give them some support!

Man, how bad is your computer? Loading only takes 5-6 seconds for me.

bought this because I have a soft spot for dungeon crawlers. The Diablo influence is incredibly obvious, the music that plays in Torchlight is a total throwback to Tristram from the original Diablo.

It's got the feel of polish to it, which is nice, but it's really just a dungeon crawler with a solid pedigree. If you dont like dungeon crawlers, there's zero reason to get this. The pet system is VERY welcome and really helps tone down the hassle of inventory management that usually accompanies these games, and it's fabulous that you can send your pet off to sell shit for you. Best idea for a dungeon crawler ever in my opinion.

Just lost my Hardcore Alchemist to a phase portal (He was only lv 5 :( ) soo had to start again, this time using a Vanquisher, who's on V Hard, like the Alchy, just not Hardcore.

Having fun with it so far, found that a good combo for the Alchemist is a Pistol and a 1-H Weapon, gives him a ranged attack and a good defense for if the enemy gets too close. Only problem with all dungeon crawlers with mouse movement is that they require you to click on the foes to attack, and with a Laptop pad that ain't too easy, which makes me glad that you can shift + mouse to attack on the spot, which helps loads.

Still bitter about my Alchemist though :( Stupid skeletons...

i'm at like lvl 9 and i'm an archer or whatever class that is and like I have yet to be in any situation where i've been more than 3/4 health down.  once again, this being said; normal mode is way too easy

I'm playing V Hard soo I guess that's the difference. Only problem with V Hard is that melee will get you killed very quickly. Which is why I made my Alchemist get a ranged weap as soon as possible. My new Vanquisher is using an enchanted small cannon, which is extremely useful for keeping things at bay. I find myself running backwards on maps every so often when a huge group of monsters appears, so I can pick them off one by one.

i'm guessing there isn't any way to change the difficulty level once you've started a character right?  because I'd really like to boost the difficulty on my character now that i've discovered that "normal" and "very easy" mean the same thing in this game.

there is a way. you can enable the console and manually change it but if you downloaded it, it will label you as a cheat and you can't use your shared stash. the patch changes this though.

if you're still interested...open settings.txt with and change Console :0 to Console :1. when the game starts press shift ~ to open console. SETDIFFICULTY 0-3 where 0 is easy and 3 is very hard.

also im using a 2 year old laptop and you guys are lucky that it loads fast for you guys :(

I'm a sucker for single player RPGs regardless of their type, so I'll definitely be grabbing this. With the exchange rate it works out to about $21.50 Australian which is an absolute bargain.
