What I meant to say was, I think this is a great discovery, but it's kind of pointless for the time being considering that nobody will actually live up there any time soon, and even if they did, I don't think that twenty galons of water are enough to sustain a viable colony. I am an asshole.

the water comes from the fact that the moon used to be part of the earth. Infact it is made from debris that was flung up there when a planet collided with earth about 3.5 billion years ago(I think maybe further back) and other time, the gravity pulled the chunks together forming the moon. So the water is just earth-material. It came from the earth.

If the water in moon came from earth then the water in earth must have come from somewhere else so maybe the moon water didn't really come from earth
