My recommendation would be to buy an equivalent or higher end Windows laptop with a spare battery. You also said your not looking for a netbook, but you might be able to get both a standard laptop and a netbook for the same price as mac book pro. This would allow you to have something portable for presentations and something powerful for working.

i have no idea why anyone would buy both a windows laptop and a netbook to do the exact same things as the macbook pro at the exact same price, if you are put off by the price alone then why would you do this?  you're paying the same thing for the same functionality just broken into two separate pieces

I know you're just speaking of personal experience... but for the record this is a logical fallacy known as selective observation and doesn't really help prove anything. Regardless, you're mostly right - a new laptop reliability study found Apple laptops to be the 4th most reliable with a pretty high reliability rate.

Well don't use anecdotal evidence to respond to "whilst the build quality is exceptional, the failure rate is pretty high." The only adequate response to something like that is empirical evidence.

I wasn't using that statement to ARGUE A POINT THOUGH and you yourself acknowledged this.  I was just sharing a piece of information.  It's a pretty annoying move to come in and go WELL EXCUSE ME LET ME LIST LOGICAL FALLACIES AS IF YOU'VE NEVER HEARD OF THEM.  It was just an offhanded comment, you didn't have to make such a big deal about it.

Ugh I know I shouldn't respond to this because we're already getting off topic and this is REALLY not important buuuut you were sharing an irrelevant and unimportant piece of anecdotal information. No shit random internet person #52348's Macbook is fine. Only about 20% of Apple computers fail by the second year - half due to user error - so it's hardly a surprise or even unexpected at all that your Macbook is fine. Remind me again the point of posting it in the first place? No one even asked you how your Mac was doing. Also may I remind you that you're the one who bitched at me for basically saying "yeah that's not useful info here IS useful information", I believe you made the choice to make a big deal about it.
