build a windows computer for cheaper and install mac OSX on it. seriously.

macs are very high build quality though, so the premium may be worth it. i am really unsure of how much more expensive they are though, so if it's only a 2-3 hundred dollar difference it may be worth it just to get a computer with high quality integrated parts.

That’s right, you have the young gaming with the old(er), white people gaming with black people, men and women, Asian countries gaming with the EU, North Americans gaming with South Americans. Much like world sporting events like the Wolrd Cup, or the Olympics will bring together different nations in friendly competition, (note the recent Asian Cup; Iraq vs. Saudi Arabia, no violence there) we come together. The differences being, we are not divided by our nationalities and we do it 24-7, and on a personal level.

We are a community without borders and without colours, the spirit and diversity of the gaming community is one that should be looked up to, a spirit and diversity other groups should strive toward.

I'm sure a lot of the love around Macs is justified, however I have always been put off by the price. I bought a new tower a few weeks ago and the closest Mac pro is almost four times the price!
Yeah the Mac Pro is known to be extremely expensive and outdated. I'm not sure what they're going to do with it. I wouldn't be surprised if they let go of the design entirely.

By the way to those who want a Netbook: my Compaq/HP Mini 110c runs Mac OS X pretty well.

I have a HP Compaq laptop at the moment with a "47Wh battery" which now lasts less than 10 minutes. How long is the battery on one of those netbooks?

Not very long, couple of hours. 3 and a half I believe, maybe more when not using Wifi. But it's an extremely cheap netbook and you can get one with a higher capacity battery.

also ed just to let you know my computer's battery lasts about 3 hours on "better battery life" power setting. it's a 4 yr old macbook pro. not 7 hours, maybe they upgraded the new ones.

I have first hand experience of seeing a 15" MBP last 7 hours playing music and video as me and my friend tested his new one.

New MacBook Pros can easily work for 7 to 8 hours, although continuous video/gaming with full brightness will bring it down to 3 to 4 hours.

Can you really do this and not have Apple shut you down, though? I read that they released an OSX update that shut out Intel Atom, and I was really looking for a way to mess around with the iPhone SDK without buying a Mac, because that's the only thing I'd use it for.

Catch me if you can!  Be one of the first three people to quote me in this topic! You could win $30 in indie games!

Sounds like apple doesn't want to deal with hardware that is anything other than what they design their os for (because if they did that then osx would be just like... windows)
Play Raimond Ex (if you haven't already)

uhhhh it's really hard/expensive to build laptops? a good point is that replacement parts are probably easier to come by/cheaper on something more generic

also if you want something feature packed that can show your powerpoint presentations you may want to consider a really nerdy cellphone. probably feel like a twat typing notes on a dinky slide out keyboard though but thought i'd run it by you!
