Thanks for the input; but I'm still not too sure. After looking at a dell 24" at a local store, I thought the aspect ratio looked retardely stretched horizontally.

The below seems like a popular monitor, but Im not sure how well it does for PC gaming; which will be its primary use. Its hard to find a straight answer for anything related to these monitors.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824001280&nm_mc=OTC-Froogle&cm_mmc=OTC-Froogle-_-Monitors+-+LCD+Flat+Panel-_-SAMSUNG-_-24001280

I'd like to PC game in 1920 x 1200; Im assuming the above does that. If at all possible I'd like to hook up a nintendo wii to the monitor. It's not a deal breaker if I can't - but it would be nice. Also in the distant future, maybe a PS3.

Out of all of the things I read, the above seems like a good monitor for my purposes with little lag and no huge problems with ghosting.

Buy 16:9 not 16:10 if you are getting a PS3. Seriously.

So I think I've settled on this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824005126

LG W2453V-PF Black 24" 2ms(GTG) HDMI Full HD 1080P Widescreen LCD Monitor 300 cd/m2 50000:1 w/

Anything bad here Im not noticing?
you probably (read: definitely) shouldn't buy a monitor that only advertises a grey-to-grey response time of 2ms. it sounds low but grey-to-grey is fucking easy and it means they don't want to tell you the real response time which is going to really suck. this is also a TN panel so its going to have bad viewing angle and colour reproduction if its cheap.

get something with the real response time in the specs (which should be 5-8ms or something) and, preferably, an IPS panel. TN panel isn't too bad if you're not -really- bothered about viewing angles, though.

this one is OK but you might want to look for a real monitor rather than a TV with integrated tuner+speakers - you can probably find a comparitive samsung monitor for cheaper.

fwiw getting a 16:9 monitor is great if you watch a lot of TV and movies on your computer - if you get a 16:10 monitor you will be letterboxing everything. all HDTVs are 16:9 (except really cheap ones that upscale to a 16:10 res) and all widescreen TV has always been 16:9 so you should be used to the aspect ratio by now.

i have this monitor and it's fantastic + has a decent viewing angle even though it's a TN panel (so good I'm planning on buying another) and i know others who have had great experiences with samsung monitors so i'd definitely recommend them.

Looks like an awesome display at a great price. You should get it. Samsung makes VERY good displays. It has almost every input under the sun (except for composite yellow-white-red, but no one uses that these days) and it even has a coax input for cable TV and shit (something that is VERY NOTICEABLY LACKING from my own NEC 24" that I really wish it had.) The headphone jack is always handy too.

Basically that Samsung you're looking at is a perfect multifunction display. You'll be able to hook up an X-Box, PS3, Wii or whatever you want (remember to get the component Wii cables if you haven't already.) As a computer monitor, it will do just swell. Computer games (and everything else) WILL look amazing through the DVI-D input, so have no worry about that.

Just buy it already. At that price, I might just get one myself, even though I already have a 24" you can never have too much screen real estate.

Edit: seriously $250 for a display of that caliber with free shipping is EXCELLENT, I am really tempted right now.

you definitely shouldn't buy a monitor that only advertises a grey-to-grey response time of 2ms. it's real response time would probably be like 5-8ms, you're better off getting a more expensive monitor that advertises a more accurate time like 5-8ms.

Even though they're heavy and take up a lot of desk space, CRT monitors actually don't lag behind in image quality at all for most purposes. I'm inclined to think they actually produce a favorable image by some standards (photography for example).

yes they produce a perfectly fine image but they're still as you said, heavy and huge and rarely widescreen

Poor guy! It's pretty terrible because he got a NEW ONE (yeah they were ridiculously expensive when they first came out) and it lasted only 5 years.

But I actually already found one (an FW900) that I can pick up locally (hour long drive, though) for probably €200. According to the guy it works perfectly, I'm asking him now for how long and how intensively the monitor was used.

you really think 99% of users need the few benefits of a CRT rather than an LCD?
