hey I got this laptop a couple years back with the Geforce 8400M GS video card, and I was wondered if it was possible to upgrade to the 8600GT, and if so would this work?

http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=10006460&prodlist=cj

I don't know if the video memory is integrated but i was looking and i read on a couple places online that you could upgrade, and other places you could not. I don't know a lot about computers but i could get the card installed if i didn't do it myself, so that's not a problem. anyway I wanted to ask you guys and if this is even a good idea. i might have asked this before but im not sure. I don't want to buy a new computer yet and i know laptops are not really for GAMING but what the hell

any advice? it would be really appreciated.

no.

laptops either use on chip solutions that you can't replace, or use a custom card to save space in the design. you can't buy a normal PCIe card and pop it in.

what's the make/model of your laptop?

ok yeah looks like it's been designed for upgrades, the 8600gt is the highest you can upgrade to  and it's just a matter of swapping them. it's a dell specific part though so good luck finding one?

if you've had the laptop for a couple years now, chances are its already fairly outdated.  if you want to do some gaming with it, just wait a little bit and then purchase a new one.  its not worth trying to upgrade stuff on your laptop because there is no way to save outdated technology at this point in time.
