These guys stole my old rm2k game's name. Do you guys think that that could even possibly be a coincidence? It's a stupid ass name that I just randomly plucked two cool sounding words together. It means nothing. Somebody in this band must be a rm2ker. Right?

In your opinion, it's a stupid name that you happened to just cobble up one day. With that in mind, why would you care if someone stole it or not? I'm not implying that they did, by the way. There are some other things that strike me as wrong aside from that.

- This doesn't belong in general and, even if it did, it doesn't warrant a new topic to be made. If anything, you could have posted in an already existing topic as not to clutter up the forum with your trivial observations.

- You used the name for game that was created on RPG Maker 2000. I shouldn't have to say anymore; but essentially it was the name of an indie game and you have no rights to the name so that in itself waters down your definition of "stole".

- I am mini-modding and, ironically, am breaking the rules myself.

It's a terrible name, you should just send him a message and ask where he got it.

I'd be honored if somebody named their band "Shiznit's Adventures"

He basically made a topic about a Myspace band that no one has heard of, that happens to have the same name as his RM2k game. Why would it matter unless it were someone a little more well known? I assumed he might of been but, if not, I'm sorry!

Dearest DarkCrono,

Upon reading your account of the "transgression" I was filled with a sense of smug superiority, that I would like to demonstrate with my best writing style. According to my wideness of knowledge which is rather deep, legally and so forth you have no legs. They have been taken from you legally if in fact you "do not care." A rock band taking their name from a rm2k game does not warrant a topic in general, of all places, nor does it warrant me having to take time to read about how quite plainly moronic and imbecillic you are. Therefore, this is a bad topic. Please only reply to this if you have something valid and constructive to say.

Signed,
Buttface.

Since you posted with some sense of rationality, though quite smug, I will address a number of issues in this response that I hope you find "valid" and "constructive."

First of all, a brief history. I have been a member here since 2002. That's three years before you joined. I frequented this and numerous other rm2k related forums. I am a 21-year-old man and I created the game in 2003-2004. I was 15 and all I really wanted out of it was to make a badass game that would garner some attention and accolade in this and the other rm2k communities. In my opinion that goal was accomplished, if for a brief time, at the height of rm2k's popularity. This community, at that time, was primarily all about rm2k. Furthermore in a lot of ways I owe Abstract Paroxysm for helping me discover my passion for creative expression and also for the degree I will be receiving in five months in Graphic Design. I'm proud of it. I put in an unimaginable amount of hours creating the short version I released, just as I'm sure the members of this board have done with their own projects.

That being said, on boring nights in front my laptop, I sometimes am curious if someone has posted something on the internet about my game. I get something new in a google search about every 3-4 months and it's always interesting for me to read people's thoughts. The myspace band however was something totally different from anything else I had found, and being that Gaming World is one of the last surviving boards that I frequented in those days this is where I thought to come and share it. I apologize for posting in the wrong forum. It's funny, I actually recalled how crazy the mods here are about having topics on the right boards. They have obviously trained you quite well. I didn't know where else to post this though. I mean how could this not go in 'general'? I looked for the 'dumb ass shit' board, but never found it.

Additionally, concerning the name- I'm no fool, I made up "Abstract Paroxysm" on a whim in an effort to just create an interesting name and nothing more. I'm not proud of it, and I now have to live with just trying to mark it off as "adolescent delusions." This does not upset me. It doesn't take a genius to realize I don't hold copyright over the name. I'm not even angry that they copied it, if they did in fact copy it. I'm simply making an observation about finding this out. If anything I find it flattering in a strange way. I'll bet their band name sounds pretty damn cool to them, too.

So damn man can an older member get a little respect around here? All I really wanted was a couple second opinions on the possibility of this being purely a coincidence. Bite me. shit.

ps: "Smurf Island was closed to make space for the BORG Assimilator" - from your profile - man I live in Charlotte. You must live somewhere pretty close. Regardless of this topic I just wanted to show some carolina love.

I think the reason people were reportedly dicks in this topic was because the RPG Maker community is a little ridiculous and sneered apon at times so it was almost natural to assume that you were annoyed about this. That would be my guess anyway!

The fact is. They might have stole it, they might not have stolen it. You could ask them where they got it from I guess! That's the simplest way. If they're guys in or around their 20s there a chance they might have encountered RM2K at some point in their life, why not? Was your game finished or published or whatever. If that was the case then maybe they did steal it but if it never made it further than a progress bar in your signature I doubt it!

I live in Eastern North Carolina and I know the specific ride that you are referring to. Although I'm pretty sure FS lives in New Zealand, I thought the same thing when I first read his custom title.

i did nothing of the sort, this is a good topic. using a name from something else as a band name is fairly terrible (the nikes), but from an rm2k game is even worse.

the borg quote is from wikipedia and it cracked me up. also i'm older than you.

This thread is a good example of why GW withered away into nothing.
