The people who this is targeted to are NON computer geeks who want to carry around the internet with them but don't want to get a laptop because it's too expensive and would prefer this over a netbook because it has a touchscreen and it's apple.

The only real drawback i see in it is that it runs the app-driven iphone OS but to be honest, people seem to LOVE buying apps so...

My point is that apple could have made some amazing highly functional revolutionary device if they wanted to, but they wanted to make something that they could sell cheap that would destroy the netbook and e-reader market and create a new one that they could be a leader in.

And I don't really get what the whole "it's easier to use than a computer" shit is about. My grandma could use a computer for whatever she needed (solitaire + internet I guess), and my mom (who once called me because she couldn't figure out how to copy and paste) normally has no problem with what she needs to do. Like yeah there's some stupid people who can't figure out computers but how is a real operating system that much more difficult than the iphone os? (complex!=difficult)

complex=slower and that's why he said clunky old software. i think everyone's somewhat deluded as to how many features of their computer they actually use. honestly in the last two weeks i've used the internet, word, adobe reader and a media player. i haven't once used my computers webcam or telephony ability, though i guess people with skype and stuff would a lot more than me. open your start menu, the first 12 or whatever things there likely constitute the majority of the activities you do on your computer. having a device that's built from the hardware up to do these activities well would be good for you, then.

just because something is already easy doesn't mean it can't be done easier and faster, that's kinda what technology is about!!!!

a lot of this seems like people that don't smoke complaining that their car doesn't come with a cigarette lighter rather than looking at what the car is for

hahah.
this seems like an OKAY product, but definitely not worth all the hype. the best thing about this as opposed to other tablets is the multi-touch component. i have a wacom and i always wish i could do something like this. it's a good idea but in actual implementation i don't think it's that great. i looked at the touch pad's resolution and it's not even very good. if it had really good resolution, you could make a paint brush from conductive bristles and then get some real cool textures going in there. not to mention it would spawn some cool peripherals.

i think with this product they hope people will get .mac accounts where they can host all their files online. maybe to start building competition for google's OS. that's how i see these things.

for me though, i don't think i'd get one.

does any one know how accurate the touch is on it? like can you use it as a drawing pad? or any of these tablets/states. just i saw a small laptop with a wiacom touchscreen on it (you can twist the screen around so it lay's like a tablet), but it was big, clunky and well not that good but the idea it'self is what i'm looking for.

You should get the one that comes out five years from now. That's the one I'm getting.

If it just so happens to be any good that is. I can't really tell how good something is going to be five years prior to it coming out.
