avatar had awful visual design too but it still won something to do with that I think. what bologna.

this was the first time I sat through the oscars too. it was horse pucky. I watched a little bit of the red carpet too and I was amazed by how horrible some of the microphone people were at speaking and making jokes and everything they were supposed to be doing besides recognizing designers. I'm left wondering if the oscars are always like this or if everything went exceptionally poorly this time around.

anyone watch the barbara walters thing before? i usually never watch oscars but when i watched this time it just seemed so too-long and fluffy and self-indulgent for an award show. nph opening with his routine was annoying plus tyler perry was cringe-worthy. there was just a lot of awkwardness!!

yeah, avatar won visual design and cinematography and something else (i don't remember)

this was pretty bad, but i thought it was pretty cool that they showed the process in the nominated films. like for screenplay, they actually had some of it on screen, and for makeup, they showed a little bit of the process involved for stuff like star trek

are you guys seriously arguing about how "bad" an award show is? can't you just take it for what it is?

Trust me Oscars in the past to be better.. somewhat. And I kinda found  parts  of the Barbara Walters thing funny, especially when they showed her banging on  drums and when Sandra Bullock tried to turn the tables on her.
Everyone has the right to be himself; wise men know how to,when, and whether to navigate the boundary between their rights and those of others when they collide.

The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, directed by Terry Gilliam and starring Johnny Depp (and Tom Waits in a big role!) was pretty good. That's, I think, the only good movie I've seen in 2009.
My favourite flick in 2009 is Moon:
-Sci Fi homage
-5 million dolla budget
-Sam Rockwell
Enough reasons
bonus points for having a new director that happens to be David Bowie's son.

Second Fav was Inglourious Basterds. So much fun.

i dont even remember the last time i saw an award show. What happens during the oscars other than handing out the actual things themselves? Is there any 'entertainment' blocs of the show to break up the awards or something?
