kichiku.....

this is cool: in that one anime where an otaku character exlains hentai to a female friend, the female friend calls the hentai otakus kichiku.

there are still japanese nationalists that control a large part of the country and are protected under japanese law just like any other political group. unlike in germany where you can be arrested for publically denying the holocaust, the japanese nationalists are allowed deny all the atrocities committed by japan as foreign propaganda

whats even more of a shame is that most of the horrible things japan has done throughout its wars it denies. most of the citizens dont even know about them, and japan will deny their actions to the country in question's face.

Edit: my bad DC didnt see you already wrote that

that is absolutely not true. to this day they deny their treatment of korean comfort women during the sino-japanese war. people are not allowed to even talk about it publicly. it is not in the history books. The deniers are the government.

if you have any evidence of 21st century large scale official denial of japanese war crimes by japan please don't hesitate to bring it forward! as you are no doubt referring to shinzo abe's comments (who isn't the prime minister anymore!) please note that one man does not make the state, and that he commented specifically on government coercion. he wrote about the IMTFE-convicted war criminals in his book toward a beautiful nation

there's no official admittance of some of them either, especially the extent of what happened during the Korean war. This was a big issue in Korea a few decades ago and there's still quite a bit of rabble about it.

No man there are quite a few things which the government has never acknowledged or apologized for. The comfort women are a particularly egregious example. Japan (and the rest of the Far East Asian countries for that matter) have a particular knack for keeping even relatively old issues highly political and flat out refusing to discuss them or admitting that they were deplorable mistakes. What's more, this isn't exactly some deeply hidden truth.

also fuck japan, other than a dope noiserock scene and some nice countryside japan is a spectacular cultural wasteland built upon one of the most disgusting empires this planet has ever seen.
You absolutely need to go there sometime man because it's still an amazing country. I've seen tons of brilliant things there and if you speak some basic Japanese everybody will happily share half their sake with you. If you can't go to Tokyo because you'll have a panic attack walking down Shibuya or the other expensive streets that's your prerogative, but I can vouch for the fact that it's a profoundly interesting and friendly society. Plus, all the escalators are always working.

I have zero interest in japan and I can't speak a lick of the language so I don't think I'll be going there anytime soon, but i was just being obtuse with that statement.

I agree, I still want to go there. it's not like there aren't a lot of good people there and it doesn't have a lot of interesting historical culture, art and architecture. food too

Good, hold that thought. You'd be amazed at how many people kinda just STAY where they are all their lives.

you guys are misunderstanding my point! any lack of public acknowledgement is still not flat-out denial, there is a key difference here

there's no reason not to do it other than to try and cover it up, especially when it's a relatively recent event that is still in a lot of people's minds. harper's apology for the head tax in canada is a little bit more dated in that respect. he probably just said that because have so many chinese immigrants now

Do you have any other decently marketable skill?  Right now all I'm getting out of this is that you studied for a few years, know the language and culture and are simply planning to join the UNITED STATES ARMED FORCES so you can get over there for however long they decide to let you stay.  And that's IF they send you there in the first place.

I don't know, dude.  If you already have your degree I would recommend thinking a bit more about what you seriously want to do with it and how you could be useful in society there.  Maybe get some sort of certification or licensure in some sort of trade you could utilize here and then work until you can afford to consider moving there with your own resources.

It just seems to me that there should be more to it than learning the language and promptly joining with any random organization or entity might put you on a plane/boat over there.
For every moment of triumph, for every instance of beauty, many souls must be trampled.
