the grandma engine is a game maker engine for use with making platform games in game maker. it was made by the excellent matt thorson (an untitled story, fLaiL). although i do not encourage the use of engines normally, this is a great way for users to get started with making games in game maker, and the source code is fully commented, to allow you to start to form an understanding of how to make custom movement and whatnot in game maker.

this is from the original post matt made (almost a year ago!) on the TiGsource forums.

Hopefully this will help some people out.  It's only v0.910 right now, bit definitely usable and a good foundation.  I'll slowly add stuff to it as I have time.

It's based on the Jumper Three engine, but with all J3-specifics striped out and the remainder heavily commented.  I also included an An Untitled Story-style room system because I've gotten a lot of requests to explain how I did that.

It's free to use for freeware/commercial, I just ask for a mention and link in your readme/credits.

so i am bringing this to your attention in an attempt to encourage some more game maker devs here!

hey i know this doesn't relate to this topic but just thought I should mention that the same guy(matt thorson) released a 2D level editor that exports levels into xml files or picture files recently!

it's pretty neat and I've been looking for something like this for a while now
