i have been chatting with a couple of guys on IRC, and basically we were reminiscing about GW radio and thinking it would be great to start it up again. however, the major problem with GW radio was (amongst other things) time zones, and getting people to tune in was always a pain. so this is where we came up with the idea of a GW podcast.

ideas and stuff have been thrown around, but the idea is a sort of magazine based show, filled with a variety of things, for example:
- chef's hour of shrek
- dada explains: the history of the walljump
- shepperd and gazzwa improvise
- the week in gw with newscaster rowain
- short stories by midgit
- the real dilbert audiobook by drule

you know, not those ideas literally but you get the gist of it, a lot of variety and everyone pulling together. i think it would be a great idea, simply because it's far easier to get people to record something and send it in, and maybe throw the occasional vodcast together! there could be different hosts or whatever that would host this weeks/months podcast, and pick the material to be used or whatnot. those are just a few ideas thrown together in the past hour, but let me know what you think, throw some ideas in or just ignore completely!!

I would most likely tune in. And depending on what kind of stuff there'd and how excited I'd be about it's entirely possible I could contribute in some very small way. I could re-enact cutscenes from games or something. Of course I'm not much on GW anymore. Though I guess something like this could draw me back if it was awesome enough 8^)

I don't really have time for anything like this right now but in the future I could potentially do something for this. I'd prefer a vodcast format though.

will I need an I-Pod to tune in? which pod model should I get? I want to use lots of 'apps and gyros.

it depends, it would have to be pretty non-stupid for me to listen. I would listen to people like velfarre, ragnar and ramci talk about whatever they found on the internet/thought of today, and chef could probably make up funny stuff often enough for a weekly or monthly show. actually jamie could probably do something as himself or one of his characters too. but going by his record of deleting youtubes I doubt he'd be ok with releasing forced, lazy or unfinished work which is generally what happens when you have to be creative on a schedule. guys like thecatamites could do a band of the week sort of thing, they know tons of bands I've never listened to that are probably really good

so essentially what's on your mind + music thread + a couple youtube channels

probably wouldn't listen to any of that other junk. this week in gw by rowain? how would he know what's going on has he even posted outside of Games in years

ya those examples were pretty much jokes! but yeah basically i was thinking of just having BAND OF THE WEEK segments and stuff and only accept decent quality stuff, and it'd probably not be too regular and the format too set in stone so people wouldn't have to worry TOO much about meeting deadlines. and we'd stockpile a load of material first just to make sure that we have enough material to cover us.

i don't know what you mean by stupid but it wouldn't be stupid!

also you wouldn't need any special software/hardware to listen to them, they'd be available as .mp3 and stuff too.

remember when we were discussing whether wrapping entire English strings into gettext calls or using language-independent identifiers was better? maybe we should just pick a random programming topic that we disagree on and GO WILD. the rami and dada VERBAL FIGHT TO THE DEATH!

the few podcasts I ever listened to were pretty stupid, just a couple of guys getting all puffed up talking about stupid stuff or trying to be funny. like any of those youtube guys paid to make vlogs.

there's actually a topic on the speedrunning forum on figuring out the exact history of the bunny hop right now. I could do that one for real.
edit: it was first demoed and brought to quake proper by ilkka kurkela by the way. who won a lifetime achievement award in 2002.
