hopefully this is pretty self explanatory. if you've heard a lot about a tv show or movie or something, then post it here to garner the opinions of your fellow geedoublites (this is an awful word and i am very sorry for using it!)

i'm gonna rock this boat with it's always sunny in philadelphia. i've heard a LOT about this show, but is it worth watching? and is there a good place to start?

im telling you season 3 is bomb, watch the first episode and tell me otherwise. it takes a while for the various plot elements to really culminate and season 1 is pretty unimpressive. i like it a lot

breaking bad season 1 was good except like two or three episodes. season 3 has been pretty good recently except for tonight's episode which was kinda boring. season 2 had a lot of bad or boring episodes but you definitely shouldn't skip the whole thing, maybe just an episode or two in the middle if you absolutely have to

I watched a couple episodes of Sunny when it first started and didn't like it, so I've been staying away from it ever since. I always felt like it was trying to ride on philly's increasing popularity. what does it even have to do with philly? I don't even know where it's shot around here.

why would you trust any GWer's movie/musical tastes when making a decision this is not a good idea

hay guys let's watch the fountain lolol (it might be an ok movie didn't see it but it looked like one of those inherently gay movies to watch)

edit: is Primer any good? because it seems like one of those movies the internet collectively DISCOVERED and maybe people are over-liking it because they are smug in their movie-internet-finding skill

primer is alright, kind of bordering on entertaining junk. the concept isn't really novel at all but it's still a pretty likable film because of how it was made/the guys who made it. lots of people on the internet love talking about it and how much they understood the first time around but you should just ignore all of this if you plan on watching it

yeah that's what I was saying I didn't read anything yet that proved to me it was a good movie maybe for some reason it scratches a certain itch for internet-type people like the internet unanimously likes it so I'm suspicious/wary of it. dubstep man it's the next evolution in music you've got to try it

I'm exaggerating but I'm wary of the whole internet phenomenon of sort of closed loops of information/support for certain things and it's really more to do with conspiracy theory shit/people who go on those websites/youtube channels and must get a sense of THE WHOLE INTERNET but it's really just this vocal closed group of people. So yeah I don't trust it on a smaller/less serious scale like favorable reviews for the movie that are really just based on an internet friend telling them how great the movie was

Edit: oh yeah that was it you know regardless of whether Tiesto is likeable or not I thought he was POPULAR and stuff but I heard he just promotes himself well, like that quote WORLD #1 DJ was just pulled out of his ass and worldwide he's like... the #57 biggest dj or something. I could totally see how that would end up being true through pro-tiesto propaganda lol does the ELECTRONICA world even have any fact-checkers for this sort of shit

I don't like movies dkfklggkjdflkd

I might watch it I was just saying the focus given to that one movie seems disproportionate compared to.... 100+ years of cinema and it seemed like the internet had their own cult movie and latched onto it in a semi-creepy way. Like you could recommend a Coen brothers movie or something but like... real flesh and blood people know about the coen brothers movie buffs etc. must recommend some other not quite as good movie so we can be internet people doing our own thing

I had the movie recommended to me by to irl friends who don't cruise GW all day, and one of them is a huge film buff if that's any better indication that it's a good film for you.  The whole GW primer craze happened after they told me about it iirc

i'm not really surprised the internet latched onto it. the movie is really isolated from anything made in the last 30 years of movies, and the guy who made it really went out of his way to distance it from the BULLSHIT HOLLYWOOD ZEITGEIST(for lack of a better term) that has pretty much taken a complete stranglehold on virtually everything that gets made now. i read in an interview somewhere that the movie he took some of the most inspiration from was all the president's men, which is a really ludicrous idea for a science fiction movie. sure there's a certain charm in somebody doing that, but when somebody completely alienates themselves from convention, they have a lot more pressure in needing to be purely effective in what they're doing.

also i don't like movies either. i hated every movie from the last decade apart from this and maybe a very small handful of others. but i think this is a legitimately good movie, even if you aren't acknowledging that it took $7,000 to make. i think there are a couple films that are slightly better, but i haven't enjoyed any quite as much as this one.

the movie isn't for everybody, but i think it's definitely worth watching, if only to see something pretty unique. i don't know you terribly well, but i think there's a chance it might really work for you.
