i am sorry for coming back to the whole england versus germany thing but seriously, every tabloid newspaper here has mentioned the war in some way or another. and it's disgusting. one newspaper even gave away free england flag emblazoned WWII helmets for its readers. all the people in the area around me have been singing "two world wars and one world cup!!" and it really shows how very narrow minded and traditionalised the english public are. they are literally stuck in some form of doctor who-esque time loop, really clinging to any sort of victory against germany, as if it actually mattered. and you know what? i feel sorry for any england player having to play against germany, with this huge media frenzy around them. i'm not going to comment on the performance of the team: germany deserved that win for sure, anyone who watched the game can see that. and most of all, i feel sorry for the germans, their fans and players, having to put up with this. i've heard from the few german people i know and through other sources that they pretty much see it as a funny quirk of ours, but it is still embarrassing to be living in a country that has such an inferiority complex against a fairly honourable, decent side who outclassed us sunday and generally outclass us in every other way anyway. both on and off the pitch.
