no this isn't a topic for posting your chatlogs! this is a topic about chatlogs! do you keep em? how long do you keep em for?

i'm making the topic because i realised i have like 5 years worth of chatlogs probably jam packed full of incriminating or embarassing conversations and i was wondering whether to ANIHILATE THEM or i don't even know what

I don't keep any chat logs ). I sometimes think I should so I can grep through em for contradictions in what people are saying now and what they said a decade ago for some kind of total slam dunk told-ya-so.

My logs are printed on acid-free paper, and carefully filed away in black binders, which I place in chronological order upon rows and rows of bookshelves. I spend my free time meticulously dusting the spines, and airing out the pages so they don't develop mildew.

I don't keep them and have never kept them. The only possible use that I would see for chatlogs in the first place is capturing those wonderful MysteriousWanderer quotes that pop up every now and then, but since everyone else was logging IRC chats, this didn't prove to be necessary after all. I format my computer and move around too much to keep those sort of things lying around somewhere anyways. And I'm not going to make like a CHATLOG BACKUP or something, because that's just fucking stupid.

i do very little chatting outside of maybe facebook but I remember I always told my chat software to not keep logs. IDK its just weird to me, like recording all of your personal phonecalls and archiving them by date or something

I only record the conversations where I do more than just breathe into the receiver. So I don't record my calls.

nah because it would have been nothing but people posting really unfunny MSN chatlogs with their friends nobody here knows, that's what those topics always became

I don't save them, sometimes I think I should start just to keep track of youtubes/bands/movies that come up in the conversation but it would still feel kind of creepy. Also when I looked through the folder to see if there were any there I found out I have a program called Windows Frotz installed for some reason.
